SM64 Community Hack (Concepts so far)

Here's the thread for the community hack! This first post will serve as a level/progress post.:D

Theme ideas:
SMG-related open world

I've been thinking, and for awhile now, I've had an idea for another hack I was going to have as a major one for me after I finished my current hack. I've been turning it over. And I'd be more than happy to use is idea for this team hack if you accept it.

Title: Star shine 64
Story: upon receiving a distress call, mario travels to star shine castle. There he finds that bowser has stolen the Sivler Stars that provide energy to all of Starshine castle. Now mario must travel across multiple universes to collect the stars.

Sort of a super mario galaxy themed hack of sorts, each level representing a different galaxy. If we could find someone with enough knowledge of ASM to make gravity it might make for a good mechanic.

While it would be impressive to make SM64 like SMG,

there is one little thing that I disliked from Super Mario galaxy...

The levels were too linear in my opinion. To me, what is magic to Super Mario 64(And Super Mario Sunshine) is the ability to create some shortcuts. You know, with some wall jumps, triple jump, etc. well placed, you can go somewhere fashionably! :) With these, getting one star would be possible with more than one way.

For example, the "Blast to the lonely mushroom" star, there is a lot of way:

1- The intended way: the cannon
2- A long jump from the log
3- A long jump from near the blowing cloud
4- A very (very) precise jump from the jump box
5- A jump from the top of the mountain
6- Spinning from the fly guy to the star

And so on I'm sure. :)

Exactly. I thought that too. While still a very fun game, it was a bit linear t times. I'd go for just using the general theme of galaxy while creating totally original levels. I have many intriguing concepts for levels already. Some quite interesting. Hoping they might get put to good use in the community hack :)

Hmm... the SMG idea sounds really good, the only problem would be the gravity around a sphere. I have no idea how to do that. I agree with niamek. There should be nonlinear levels. I think the best galaxy which did that in SMG would be Good Egg Galaxy's first planet.

So how many stars should there be? Until there's areal importing, there can be a max of 7 stars per course. I think the secret areas could be unlimited, as well as bowser/hub worlds.

I have a couple of ideas for levels, like maybe an amusement park level or a hotel level. I can compose music too Heres an example:D

I suppose we should just fit as many as we can. I never really decide a star limit until all courses and ideas are planned, but thats just me :P But yeah, gravity was only an idea. I love those level ideas. I only have come up with the concept of one level, meteorite masquerade. The levels will be expansive not linear.

I've been working on a way to make more than 6 stars per level by messing around with the star # in TT64. I noticed if you set a star# to 7 in any course, it collects as star 1 of the next course. I think setting it to a star # past the number in the game (120) it could count as a new star.
That level sounds interesting. I'll add it to the idea list at the top :)

That sounds great! I know shy guy's toybox front and back. Theres the train, the slot machine, and the blocks that move up and down. That train sounds good, kinda like on Cloudrail Station.
