Level 003: Pleasant Forest

User: Hinalyte / ID: 1553 ~ loading kotori.css
Notes:
  • This level is on ROM 2.
  • The level's name may be temporary. I'm still looking for an alliterations and such, which makes the name unique.
  • I used the Classic Piranha Plant Fix patch (as it's mentioned on the Presets thread), but I modified two values so that it uses SP2 rather than SP4, so that I can use an SP4 enemy properly. Hope I don't get a minus from that. If so, I'll try to fix that as soon as possible.

So here's the level that I've been working on for this contest. I know that most of us want to keep things a surprise, but we also want to receive feedback from others, sooo...

Actually I'm done. I just did it on two days, but I'd like to make an improvement for anything not appealing.

So I'd appreciate any feedbacks in here!
So you got level 003 as well eh...

Anyway, what I can see so far looks excellent but it also seems like I could just simply run all past it like it is very easy. I guess the only way to tell the difficulty is to see more of it #ab{<_<}. Still, I can trust you on that it is pretty good as I have played your past work.
Looks so far, and the palette is satisfactory. But...

The mist is too bright that hurted my eyes.
I don't understand the level's theme. The transition from mountain to forest is far too quick.

Well, Hinalyte, looks like a nice work you're doing. But I have to agree with Hielus, your theme transitions look a bit harsh (especially the forest -> mountain one).

And I have a suggestion to your level: Since you want some aliterations and it's a forest level, why don't you call it like "Woody Wonderland"? I picked this name up as a suggestion to fit the pleasant atmosphere your level gives.

Dream team (feed them, please):

Thanks for some feedback!

Okay, my bad. But like there's nothing you can do when the background uses half of palette 0 (because the mist uses palette 0 as well). But I realized that I don't use some palette row, so...

Hope that's an improvement.

It's supposed to be a grassland, not a mountain. I don't know, it's supposed to be a grassland on a high terrain, then you come down on the forest ... something like that.

Thanks for that name, but I decided not to take that. "Wonderland" seems too far from describing my level (Unrelated note: My previous VLDC entry has a "Wonderland" on it). But yeah, the level should give a pleasant atmosphere, something like that.

Definitely an improvement. At this rate, everything should be going nicely for your level as long as you take feedback into consideration.

Adding a new sublevel since I think my level is too linear without one.

(Though I think my designing is too simple... #ab{^^;;;})
Linear levels aren't bad, just so long as they allow for variation in playstyle. Just try to not force the nonlinearity into your level.

Posting it here so that if there's any suggestions/problems on this level, I'll be able to take a look on it.
