Games that got you disappointed

For you what games should go on the dark list of "Games that could have been better". You know, those games that when shown at earlier development looked awsome but then when launched were just silly.

---------------------
My list would be:

Half Life 2 (the original project was waaaay better and now i feel like the franchise has rotten)
Spore (from the 2005 E3 press conference)
Diablo 3 (a bad game with great ideas)
Neverdead (great concept, horrible game)
Hellgate London (Lack of variety)
---------------------

What about you? What games you feel like a failure?
HEY YOU!!! =D CHEK THIS OUT!!

1. Skyward Sword. This is still one of the biggest disappointments ever for me. Yes, I managed to get through it, but not only did I find the controls extremely annoying to get used to, I found they areas themselves lackluster and uninspired. The Lanayru Desert was honestly the only area I'd consider "awesome", and the rest of the game was just lackluster. Cool final dungeon though.

2. Super Paper Mario. To be fair, I did enjoy this game, but after playing TTYD (which is still one of my favorite games of all time), it felt like an absolute letdown. Speaking relative to that, it was mediocre. Speaking otherwise, it was a good game on its own.
After all the hype I've heard about Okami, I felt a bit disappointed since the motion controls were just awful, along with having to shake the damn remote in order to attack.

The Mega Man series disappointed me, particularly Mega Man 2. I find the games to be poorly designed with hugely artificial difficulty, and yet they're considered by everyone to be NES classics. I never saw what was so good about them, catchy music aside.
Batman: Arkham City
Seeing how awesome the first one was I got a little too excited over it. The gameplay I really enjoy but the story was a huge let down especially at the end. Anticlimactic as hell and they killed off joker.

When you finish the storyline, the game is still only 30% done. The other 70% of the game is minigames.

Super Mario 64, Super Mario Galaxy/2
I don't really dig on the concept of those games to be honest. Back in 1996 I was so excited for Super Mario 64 but I was really disappointed because the star collecting concept was something I didn't really enjoy doing. I thought going into a level 5-6 times was repetitive and boring.
I think a post layout goes here somewhere...

Sonic 4 episode 1. For some reason, I just didn't like it. Wether it was the weird bunch of physics, the not-so-amazing level design or the soundtrack that didn't keep up with the rest of the game, I just couldn't enjoy playing through it. It didn't really feel like a Sonic game that much, either. And Casino Street Zone was just... annoying. I'm probably one of the few Sonic fans that dislike this, but hey, I can't say I really hate it, it just disappointed me a bit.

Can't really think of any others right now, but I'm sure there are quite a few more.

e: oh yes of course, Duke Nukem Forever. I don't think I need to explain that.
Final Fantasy 11 (or 12, I forget) on xbox 360. An mmorpg final fantasy game sounds like a good idea until you have to pay for an additional $15 a month and spend an hour making 3 separate accounts and waiting 2 hours for it to install and then waiting another hour for something else to install then finally being able to play and finding there's no map or direction whatsoever and you give up.

Bioshock 2 was another that disappointed me. To be fair I don't really know what I expected in the first place, but it was just so similar to the first game it just felt like a cheap sequel made over the same game to earn some extra cash.

Also Sonic the Hedgehog for xbox 360, and I shouldn't have to say why. After being on the market for 3 days it sold for $2.00
ask me if i give a f*ck...
Red Steel. The game was fun at first but then I started to notice the motion controls weren't actually all that good and I found myself sometimes having to do stressed versions of the controls to the extend where I actually flung the remote out of my hand at one point. Thank god I wear the strap.

Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. Come on, any true Mario OR Sonic fan would've been hyped to hear that the two franchises were meeting for the first time ever but sadly, the game turned out to be crappy mini-games with nobody having any of their original powers (although the likes of Sonic's speed I can understand). It just appeared to be a case of Sega (who were the main developers of the game) wanted to cash in on the Beijing Olympics decided to chat with Nintendo, throw a few famous names on the box, and watch as the DS and Wii practically printed money. The game boasted online functionality but it turned out to be nothing but terribly moderated leader boards. Why can't I do a 100m dash with people from around the world? That's what happens in the real Olympics. What annoys me is that they're still cashing in on them and the Winter Olympics too. Get it, if you want money, give us a PROPER Mario and Sonic game. Not some cheap party game.

Starfox 64 3D. Ok, I'll admit, this is still an incredible game but there is one function that is missing from it. ONLINE PLAY. They finally implemented battle mode against CPUs, a function missing from the N64 release, which is great (and not to mention the CPUs are brutal as well) but what if I want to play against friends who AREN'T in the same room as me? I mean the fact that connection is only local pretty much nullifies the point of the face-cam that shows up in battle mode when I can see what my friends are doing at a higher FPS rate if I just look up at them. Why stop at online friend matches? I'm sure there would be some tough random opponents out there for me to take on.

About Red Steel I totally agree with you, specially Red Steel 2 (it was fun but we all expected more fluid control of the sword and less repetitive levels).

But Starfox with online play it's just unfare to ask since it's a N64 game.....

I did use the word '3D' so people would know I was talking about the 3DS remake. I even mentioned it was a remake several times throughout that post and mentioned some of the implemented functions in the remake.

I didn't noticed I swear!! xD

Skyward Sword, i got it last november and haven't played it since Christmas, i don't know why, it just doesn't seem at all entertaining

I also bought Street Fighter 4 3D edition but i guess it's just not my kind of game.

I should make an urge to play them.
Sonic Chronicles. Don't even get me started. I got it 3 years ago and STILL haven't beat it.

Basically he said what I was going to say before I saw his post. ESPECIALLY because of the fact that they're still doing that after the Winter Olympics. Two is enough, don't you think?

Pokemon Gold and Silver, and even their remakes. Not enough content, many stupid decisions seem to have been made in the games production, which weren't really fixed in the remake.

They added a whole new region to go along with the previous one and the battle tower and the remakes have safari zone, pokeathlon, battle frontier, etc. what the fuck are you talking about.

Terrible level curve, game isn't challenging, can't get some of the best Pokemon from gen 2 until postgame in Kanto, that's right Johto Pokemon in Kanto, even Johto+Kanto combined doesn't make a very big region, honestly thought that Hoenn was bigger than both combined. Battle Frontier was in Platinum too. Pokeathlon is boring unfun minigames. Also Battle Tower was practically impossible in Crystal because of cheating AI.
GSC/HGSS are the worst games in the series IMO, this even from a person who has a lot of Nostalgia for generation 2, having Silver be my first Pokemon game.
I'm not saying the games are bad, just that they are the worst in the series of great Pokemon games.
e: also Gym Leader Rematches are fucking tedious to get, they require much messing with the clock if you want to get them fast.
While I agree with you on the level curve, I'm pretty sure Johto/Kanto is the biggest region by far. and you should be ashamed for comparing it with Hoenn. I see nothing wrong with Johto pokemon in Kanto, though it would have been nicer to find pokes like sneasel and houndour in johto rather than exclusive to Kanto. Battle Tower being in Platinum as well doesn't change anything; it's still in HGSS and adds plenty of content. As for gym leader rematches that's more of a gimmick; the same is for trainers that can call you via the phone. Besides messing with the clock isn't THAT difficult.

I'm a bit more defensive since Gen 2 happens to be my favorite Gen but these games have the most content out of all the games. I forgot to mention the Bug Contest, Phone Rematches, Pokewalker, and Game Corner. Sure your mileage may vary on these, but it's all still content that pretty much makes GSC the most replayable of the series.
Pokewalker is terrible gimmick that can be cheesed easily, and Bug Catching Contest is also a Gimmick. I don't want Trainers calling me all the time to discuss stupid shit. Game Corner is in pretty much every game except BW/BW2, so that content can be experienced in the other, better games that don't have lolvoltorbflip.
If you compared HGSS route maps to RSE route maps you'd find that the RSE maps seem to have a lot more detail than the HGSS maps.
In terms of Content i'd say Platinum wins here, this game has very nice postgame that don't take all of 3 hours to complete. Platinum also has the Poketch apps, Better Safari zone, easier to rematch gym leaders, and better overall E4.
My current favorite game is probably Black 2 though, to be honest I haven't had this much fun in a Pokemon game since Platinum. Great Pokemon selection, cool cast of characters, Gym Leader line-up is nice, and their is a shit ton of postgame content.
Also it took me a lot longer to complete Emerald, Platinum, and Black 2 than it did to complete HGSS.
Skyward Sword. This was a game Miyamoto promised everyone it would have at least 50 hours of Gameplay, or 100 if you wanted to get everything. What I got was a game that gave me 20 Hours to beat, and 5 extra to get everything.

It was a game that promised a huge expansive world, with a Sky Overworld that had secrets lying about everywhere, like the Wind Waker Islands. What I really got was an Overworld with 3 Islands that actually had anything in it, and regions in which "Forward" was the only real direction, there was little to no exploration, except in circular areas where you could go up, down, or keep moving forward.

The game was also abominably easy, with bosses that took little effort to defeat, except for the one Buddhist boss with multiple arms.

It offered virtually nothing in terms of side missions, aside from Collect an X amount of Y, or Deliver A to B.

Fi has got to be the most irritating partner in the entire Franchise history. (There is a 78% chance that you are running low on hearts, like how your Wii remote is running out of batteries, why don't you try using dowsing to find the quest item that was just added as your available dowsing targets?" and so on.

The "Is this what you call love?"
line at the end was so uninspired and ridiculous, that seeing it in a game of this caliber made me lower my head in shame.

The game seems so promising at the beginning to, leading you to believe you're in for a heck of a ride, and when it ends, I just looked at the screen and thought "That's it?"
Super Paper Mario was one. It's a good game, sure. The music was great, dialog was as funny as ever, heck, the story is considered the best in the series. But the change in gameplay made it easier and shorter than the other games. If it were like in TTYD, it would have probably been the best Mario RPG to date. After Nintendo decided to appeal to the casual audience with the 2D platforming that everyone likes with SPM (same with Bowser's Inside Story, half the game was platforming). I was pretty hyped for Sticker Star, seeing they wouldn't go the SPM direction, but after actual details about the game now I have grown doubt due to the whole sticker thing, and no partners in sight. At this point I don't think any future Paper Mario games might ever top TTYD (unless sticker star turns out to be great).

Super Mario 3D land was pretty underwhelming too. While there's a lot of variety in levels, I feel like there isn't as much content the Galaxy games had. They must have rushed the game for holiday release. There are only 4 different bosses in the game, a lot of the music from the game is straight out of the Galaxy games. The game itself was pretty easy, too. I guess it's just that I was expecting a portable Galaxy game, with the amazing soundtrack and all.

And finally, I think the biggest disappointment in Skyward Sword was the music. They finally use an actual orchestra, but the music wasn't as memorable as the past game's. Super Mario Galaxy's music was way better.

And this might not be a game, but this year's E3 really sucked. Nothing to really be excited about. Things you actually want not showing up. All this hype for nothing and stuff.
DDR 2010
This DDR game was pretty decent, but the game sucks out of all the Wii DDRs [DDR II was the best IMO]. The KOs are pretty good-bad, the Licenses suck, the charts SUCK all the way. The boss songs suck. The only thing I like about this game is the Revival of DOUBLE TORNAD from DDR Hottest Party [Japan] and another few KOs that are pretty cool to play with. Other than that, this game was a huge letdown to the whole Wii series of DDR. Luckily DDR II decided to bring the fanbase up with DDR X2 songs. That's why I like DDR II
