E=MC Hammer

Kaizo

This hack has been renamed so many times. At first it was gonna be Megahertz Donut, the sequel to Hertz Donut, then it was gonna be Super Mario FML 2, and then I finally settled on E=MC Hammer (this hack has nothing to do with MC Hammer. The name just sounded cool). I think that will be final.
Anyway, it's another hack focusing more on quality over difficulty. Difficulty is at least that of Hertz Donut (slowdown will not be needed). It's mostly vanilla, but with occasional chocolate elements. Like Combo Breaker, this one also features a hex edit that disables spin jumping off of dangerous enemies, which should close some doors and open others. For the first time in my Kaizo hacking chronology, the intro level will be an actual level (it's actually the first level), and the OW is designed so that you can beat the levels in any order. Beat all the levels to access the final stage. I might actually use the OW RPG patch. Screenshots:

I did have a video of this level up, but I am planning to majorly redesign parts of the level, so it would be pointless to still have the old video up. This is Chuck-fused Cliffs.

You might have guessed this from my filebin, but this level is called Healthy as a Horse. Those yellow switch blocks are on/off controlled (outlines=non-solid and ! block=solid).

And it's in this level only. Zeldara posted the code I had partially requested. Mario can still get off Yoshi if he takes damage from an enemy. This is that same level I showed a screen from a while back in the screens and videos thread. I'm actually just about finished with this level. It took a while due to taking long breaks and creative ideas coming slowly. Oh, and I screwed myself because I needed that shell.

What do I have in store here? You'll find out eventually. NOTE: I have since changed the FG graphics of this level to forest/cloud, since the music I chose seems to fit a little better with it (Pokemon Black and White-Relic Castle).

This level will focus almost solely on the on/off switch controlled blocks.

Wow, the hack looks nice! The use of the on/off switch controlled blocks and the Yoshi gimmick is cool too.

It definitely seems to meet the "quality" goal by the looks of it.
Can't wait to see what's to come in this hack.

The intended gimmick is to swallow stuff and pass by the green berries before Yoshi is ready to eat again (eating green berries will make there be a time limit, and there will be more than 20 seconds of material after this). I wonder, is it possible to completely skip over the green berries just by turning around rapidly? If it's possible and if it's something only a TASer would do, then I probably won't worry about it. This is just the last part of Healthy as a Horse. This is a Yoshi wings sublevel.
EDIT: I might not have thought this through. If I do too much with this gimmick, then there may be enough green berries to swallow in rapid succession to completely break the puzzle.

This level is NOT as bad as it sounds...

...because there's no key-jumping involved. The reason it's called key-jump cavern is because the keys themselves jump. I will fix the cement blocks. This is just my building style, using the so-called "cement block method." The transparent note blocks are marked invisible noteblocks.

Same with this. I'm thinking of using "Goemon's Great Adventure-Ryugu's Castle" as the custom music, but I'm not 100% sure what kind of level it would fit, but I want to use it somewhere in this hack, and I think it might fit here, but I dunno. What do you think?

The yoshi gimmick can be skipped by mis-eating the berry (turning it into a permanent sprite), which isn't too hard to do even for non-TASers.
Of course you should fight fire with fire, you should fight everything with fire.

Oooh look at my userbar!

Sadistic Designer - testing Pit without tools.
I dunno about the music in the line-guided level, but I think it would fit better in that level. Also, I liked the new look of the invisible coin/note blocks. Also, that jumping key is a custom sprite or did you make some sprite use the key graphic? Well, anyways it looks good.

The jumping keys are graphics swaps of various enemies that jump (Thwimps are kinda tricky since they are symmetrical, so I ended up having the tooth on both sides). That level is purely a visual gimmick. As far as actual level design, there probably will be no real gimmick.

Almost sounds like you're contradicting yourself. Do you mean it would fit more in that level than others? Hmm, maybe I could use it for a bonus game/switch palace tileset? I guess I have a plan B if I decide not to use the music for the line guide level.

What did I meant is, since the music has an athletic feeling in it, I did think it would fit some athletic level, and maybe even a castle.

I had this other music that I thought might also fit, but I was planning to use it in the third stage in Holy Scheisse, whenever I plan to work on that again, and I don't want to also use it in this hack. Anyway, I have not shown any screens of the intro level yet (yes, it is important enough to show screens of):

This is my first Kaizo hack since FML where the prologue can actually kill you (Hertz Donut was close). The player starts out on a 1-up so that the lives cannot glitch. That is a disco shell up there.

A layer 2 gimmick in tandem with a P-switch race.

Yeah.
Like Hertz Donut, the intro, er, first level, will probably end up being easier than every other level, but this level is more difficult than the first level in Hertz Donut.

Prologue
Healthy as a Horse
Difficulty par for this hack will probably end up similar to the hardest levels in Hertz Donut. Any breaks I need to know (aside from those which are possible without the use of their respective fix patches such as block duplication or L and R through the level)?

This hack is cancelled due to technical problems. I want this hack to burn in hell with everyone laughing at its misery, so I delete it from my hard drive permanently because that's the next best thing. From now on I will be almost exclusively vanilla so that it cannot become an omnipotent being second only to God. #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(} #w{>=(}

What the hell? Your hack was getting really good so far, no need to cancel it, even with lack of feedback. #w{=|}

I've been thinking, since this hack has an epic intro level, I'm not absolutely sure anymore that I want to cancel it. But then again, I made a couple epic levels for Super Mario w00t thus far. From the beginning I've kinda had the feeling that Super Mario w00t might not be as fun to work on as this one. Should I continue working on this one and use some level ideas I had for Super Mario w00t (I still have the Healthy as a Horse IPS to work with)? I think the level that was originally gonna be "Chuckfused Cliffs' will be 'Forest of Fear.' I will probably end up changing some parts because of not being able to spin jump off of enemies.

Using Combo Breaker's patented save house technology.

Remember when I said I quit this hack for a stupid reason? This level had Mario randomly disappear sometimes when he jumped off the grey platform, but I haven't been able to replicate that since porting to a new ROM. Another reason I ported to a new ROM is because I had accidentally overwritten some of the screen scrolling pipe tiles with cement blocks and I didn't know what else to do.

Some of Switch Block Subterrain. This is past the part I showed in the preview video. This part is not fully tested, so it's subject to change.

I am having tons of fun making this level. This screen may not look like much, but those fence tiles are actually a "pass if carrying" custom block. They are solid when not carrying anything and passable when carrying something. If you're inside them and you drop the item, you either die or glitch through the ground. This little "side effect" will have some useful puzzling applications.

Just waiting for the P-Switch to run out, with Bullet Bills firing at you and a shell to kill them to pass the time.

Lol at the phrase after E=MC Hammer. Also, this hack looks cool so far, are you keeping the parts you previously showed before saying that you cancelled this hack?

Yes. But I don't think I'm keeping Chuck-fused Cliffs. It's not "gimmicky" enough, plus the only thing I really cared about saving was the spiny part, which is in Forest of Fear, which I decided also will not be in this hack for similar reasons.
Also, you passed the test. You knew not to take the overly long title change seriously.

The level called 'Keep Holding On.'
For some reason, when I uploaded it, it said 'Matched third party content.' I clicked the info and it said that it has content from Waterfall (Original Mix)". BULLSHIT!
In other news, I'm kinda thinking about what to do for the last level. I was thinking of a design similar to Marching Milde's fort from Yoshi's Island, where you must go through a series of rooms in any order you choose and get a number of MacGuffins to enter the hallway to the boss room.
And yes, I am using my 24 hour II contest entry as the title screen for this hack.

The level looks cool, though in the beginning under the yellow koopas, you could just drop the shell and then hold it again. Also I dunno if it is possible, but on the part with the yellow baby Yoshi, you could just throw it to the right before you could pass thru the custom block. The screen scrolling pipe at the end of the underwater area is unnecessary since you can't squeeze through the blocks while big.
Why I am the only one to give feedback to your levels?

Did not think of that. How tricky is it?

I thought it looked impossible, tho this was based purely on visual inspection. I think I tried it, but only once, with zero success.
Just to be on the safe side, I'd better make the wall thicker, maybe, if it is possible.

Just makin darn sure the player will be screwed if they kill the fish. I guess I'll replace the pipe with stone so it'll look a little more professional.

You're the only one allowed besides me. I'm keeping everyone else away with my black magic. Why? For the evulz.
[sarcasm]Know what? The less feedback I get, the more I can feel inclined to make it however I want, with flunchers and overused custom music strewn about! [/sarcasm]
