Description: Scary Bosses and Nice Sprites is a hack focused on both bosses and sprites while still retaining a lot of platforming action. It contains some kaizo staples, such as complete power up starvation, but it also has a lot of standard elements, such as having more than one way to overcome setups. It is aimed at both experimented standard players and kaizo begginers. The hack contains a total of 10 exits, with 4 custom-coded unique bosses.

Story: Bowser has summoned enemies from different dimensions to defeat Mario. Make sure to kick them out of the Mushroom Kingdom!

Update:

-Disabled spin jumping over the bob-omb explosions.
-Rebalanced some of the bosses, especially the final boss, which is now a bit harder.
-Fixed a minor graphical glitch with the final boss.

Update 2:

-Final rebalance of bosses.
-Adjusted hitbox of some sprites to better fit its graphics.
-Improved the wording of a previously confusing hint about a boss.
-Fixed a janky setup which killed Mario unfairly on certain frames.
-Balanced volume of some songs.
-Added an extra koopa at Koopa Konservation for better understanding of the gimmick.
-Changed very slightly some setups.

I LOVE IT FROM THE BEGINING TO THE END-SOMEWHAT CHALLENGING #smrpg{y}

This was a really fun hack. The platforming was very well thought out and tough without being overly tight or frustrating. It was awesome to have custom bosses rather than just retooled versions of the ones from the base game. All of them had unique movesets and challenges, none of them felt overly similar.

One of my favorite hacks. The level design was great

While Darolac's first hack, Of Jumps and Platforms, was a Standard hack that did not cross the border into Kaizo territory, this hack had the courage to cross that border, and it did.

Take Standard and Kaizo, put them in a mixer, and you will get Scary Bosses and Nice Sprites, a fantastic hack that successfully managed to merge two types of difficulties together.

Like the author promises, it's great for advanced standard players as well as for Kaizo beginners. In fact, I think this hack is a perfect introduction to Kaizo hacks, along with some other hacks as well.

The first boss fight against a
Lip, an enemy resembling lava monsters,
I found to be slightly on the easy side once I understood its attack patterns, but considering the fact that it's only the first boss, it's quite understandable.

I absolutely loved Difficulty Spike; I really feel this level is a prime example of Standard and Kaizo blended together and was very fun to play. I didn't know dodging and Spin-Jumping spiky shells that resemble Koopaling shells which move at an astonishingly fast pace could be so much fun! Bubbled to Death was another fun level in this regard.

Also, I thought the gimmick in the level Koopa Konservation was pure genius; I don't think I've ever seen this gimmick used before except in one other hack.
No kills are allowed in this level, and no shells can be Spin-Jumped or defeated either.

This hack is wonderful for experienced standard players and Kaizo beginners alike. If you want to understand the mechanics of Kaizo hacks or you want to practice and polish your precision skills and reaction time before playing a more difficult Kaizo hack, this is a great hack to start!

Absolutely love this hack from beginning to end. The levels are tough but fair. The music is banging! Beat the boss on the original upload and the update. That updated boss was rough lol.

Very enjoyable hack, the premise was well executed upon and there is really inventive (and amusing) setups of all the sprites featured and nothing overstayed it's welcome. Nice work!

Super fun hack, love the way it blended kaizo and standard. The bosses were clearly lovingly crafted, although personally I still loved the levels a lot more than the bosses.

very fun hack! amazing sprites for all the enemies and the levels are very nice to look at. very fun jumping and obstacles :)

note this hack is WAY harder than jumps and platforms - is bordering the harder end of kaizo light in some levels. expect MANY hours if new.

I love how well this hack manages to be simple, while still offering enough custom features to make it fresh and unique. Darolac does an excellent job, doing a lot with very few items.

For the most part this hack is standard, with some kaizo setups here and there. Because of this, it's a steady transition for people who played hacks like Slurdgery or Of Jumps and Platforms, and are willing to take a dip into kaizo with small steps. Highly recommended.

I've been really excited to try this out! Neat to hear that there are a lot of entirely unique custom sprites, I'm sure it brings a breath of fresh air to the design. The blending of genres as a focus is really cool as well.

A worthy sequel to OJaP that everyone should play.
