Description: This patch will allow you to spawn a kicked shell by placing one of the 4 Koopa sprites (sprite number 4 through 7) with extra bit set to 1 (the color depends on the Koopa used). Instead, placing a Parakoopa (sprite 8 or 9) with extra bit set to 1 will spawn a kicked "special green shell" (sprite DF).

Note that you have to run a sprite tool (e.g. pixi) on your rom at least once in order for the extra bit to be properly handled.

v1.1: now it also works for sprite 11, the Buzzy Beetle (thanks Nope and meatloaf for the idea).

• SA-1 Pack v1.40
• Asar v1.81
• Snes9x v1.60
• bsnes v115

Works as intended, so, accepted. Note that a Buzzy Beetle spawned this way will never revert back to a normal Buzzy if the kicked shell is stunned into the carryable state.

As a small optimization note, $01A6D7 can be read with Y indexed word addressing instead of X indexed long addressing, since the data bank is never changed.

Works as intended. I really like the idea of a patch that uses extra bits for minor stuff like this instead of a custom sprite

You can use both together, they don't conflict with each other. Although if you're also using the Sprite properties depending on the extra bit patch, you'll have to turn off the behavior for sprite 9 (since the kicked shell patch will override the other one).
