Description: | Of Jumps and Platforms (or OJaP, in short) is a SMW hack of hard-very hard difficulty, heavily focused on platforming. It contains a total of 7 exits, carefuly crafted and balanced to offer a difficulty progression through them. Inspired by hacks like slurdgery, Nachos and Fried Oreos and mice, Of Jumps and Platforms offers some hard, challenging platforming action through each one of the levels, each one containing an asm-focused gimmick. Story: Bowser has prepared a special obstacle course for Mario that ends up in his castle. Will he be able to survive it? Update: No gameplay changes. -Disabled start+select reset feature due to glitchy behavior. -Darkened the background on the second section of Night of the Spike so the ON/OFF blocks can be seen more clearly. |

Dislike: Fishing Boo
I'm a rookie in the romhack world. I was recommended OJaP, and I'm super glad I took the time to play this hack. If you're interested in taking the Kaizo path, I recommend OJaP. The levels get you thinking, music is on point, and yes, there is a tad bit of frustration. This was my first Standard Hard romhack. I had a lot of fun completing this! Thank you!
Had a lot of fun!
Flying Dutchman Bay gets a special mention for inventive cruelty (in a good way):
One very small warning: If you want the retro achievements, at time of writing you'll need to download the old version hosted in the comments on that site (the new patch isn't linked yet).
5/5 from me.
that stupid fishing boo levelthe various mini-gauntlets.Would definitely recommend this hack to anybody looking for a challenge!
Rotating platforms, Ball 'n' Chains, and other similar objects move extremely quickly, and jumping at the wrong time can easily result in your death. Along with that, some levels have Fishin' Boos which also impede your ability to jump accurately.
That said, this hack isn't a Kaizo hack due to powerups being available in the beginning of each section and the lack of many Kaizo elements such as shell-jumping and the like; and because of the Mushrooms that are available at the beginning of each section, you're allowed to make one blunder, unlike in most Kaizo hacks in which there is a consistent lack of powerups unless it's needed to break a barrier of Turn Blocks further in the level for instance.
Zen Platforming and Of Jumps and Platforms were my favorite levels. Of Jumps and Platforms, being the final and longest level in the hack, definitely kept me engaged and attentive as each section presented me with a unique gimmick.
Overall, I'd recommend this hack for those looking for a short but difficult game that does not cross the borders between Standard and Kaizo.
Next up on my list of hacks to play is Darolac's Scary Bosses and Nice Sprites.
stars! A short-but-sweet hack that delivers true platforming goodness. Great job on this hack!
I'm beginning to learn KAIZO, and this was a nice hack for movement. About a 1 hour to complete. 5/5
Especially the final level was really satisfying to complete, it kind of felt like the stages before were a preparation of this particular moment.
Anyways I give it a 5/5
This hack is often recommended for newer players who are starting to get into kaizo, and I think it's a good choice, although make sure you're at least a bit comfortable with your movement, because this hack still requires some quick reaction time and there's a lot of pits under the gameplay.
4/5
Had a real blast playing this hack. I'm too bad at Kaizo, but this is exactly my type of stuff. Thanks a lot! This definitely scratches my Super Mario itch much better than most official Mario games recently, and I'd totally pay for this kind of stuff. Glad to read you're working on a sequel.
This is in "very hard" but I bet it would be a nice starter hack for kaizo beginners.
Great work
Glad you enjoyed it. You will like to know that I have some sort of a sequel already planned for the future. Stay tuned.
Great work
Each level having its own gimmick as well as an upbeat track to keep you going really helps create a super satisfying experience when overcoming tough obstacles.
No joke it took me a few hours to beat because I was adamant to perfect the levels to try and get by them as smooth as possible.
It'll introduce gimmicks and hazards as a speedy but fair pace and then throw a twist at you that you'll have to work into your movements and problem solving.
Nothing feels too overbearing granted I'll probably go to the grave hating Fishing Boo.
I heartily recommend this hack to those who fancy a challenge.
Fantastic Work Darolac.
My favourite gimmick was probably the Piranha Plants just because of how creatively they were used.
I would like to say yes. The main focus of the hack is on platforming, so I think you can use it as a pre Kaizo hack if you want. In any case I have put a lot of effort into it so I'm hoping you at least have a fun time with it!
(sorry for the bad english)
The difficulty is really hard but fair.
The music choice and the palettes are nice.
And the way the hack ends is really nice as well.
I would recommend this hack to anyone looking for a very hard experience
except for the fishing boo parts
