Description: Of Jumps and Platforms (or OJaP, in short) is a SMW hack of hard-very hard difficulty, heavily focused on platforming. It contains a total of 7 exits, carefuly crafted and balanced to offer a difficulty progression through them. Inspired by hacks like slurdgery, Nachos and Fried Oreos and mice, Of Jumps and Platforms offers some hard, challenging platforming action through each one of the levels, each one containing an asm-focused gimmick.
Story: Bowser has prepared a special obstacle course for Mario that ends up in his castle. Will he be able to survive it?

Update:

No gameplay changes.

-Disabled start+select reset feature due to glitchy behavior.
-Darkened the background on the second section of Night of the Spike so the ON/OFF blocks can be seen more clearly.

Favorite Level: Night of the Spike

Dislike: Fishing Boo #smrpg{sick}

I'm a rookie in the romhack world. I was recommended OJaP, and I'm super glad I took the time to play this hack. If you're interested in taking the Kaizo path, I recommend OJaP. The levels get you thinking, music is on point, and yes, there is a tad bit of frustration. :) This was my first Standard Hard romhack. I had a lot of fun completing this! Thank you! #wario{<3}

Super fun hack. Only wish it was longer

I was very happy that this was my first hack, thanks to Barb's list. It was pretty challenging so I sat down a couple times to beat it. Looking forward to replaying it some more in the future

great hack for a beginner like me. enjoyed it, thank you very much! <3

Lovely hack, as the first one I chose to tackle; it was a great time getting to acclimate myself to each gimmick while not feeling punishingly difficult but still challenging enough to feel good after beating a level.
Had a lot of fun!

I'm a beginner going through Barb's recommended list, so this is the third hack I've beaten (the first two being A Plumber for All Seasons and SMB1X). This was just absolutely outstanding all the way through and a real breath of fresh air after some of the rough patches of SMB1X. Every level is fun and engaging without being frustrating, coming with a gimmick that's just chocolatey enough, and the music is consistently excellent. Anyone considering putting an autoscroller in their non-kaizo hack should be legally required to play through this first to get an idea of how to do it well. The final level is a brilliant "exam" bringing all the gimmicks together, which is always a plus in my book.

Flying Dutchman Bay gets a special mention for inventive cruelty (in a good way):
how the heck do you make a fishing boo so evil while confining it to one height?

One very small warning: If you want the retro achievements, at time of writing you'll need to download the old version hosted in the comments on that site (the new patch isn't linked yet).

5/5 from me.

As a beginner, I loved this hack! So much fun!!

Just started getting into hacks. This patch is amazing and the last level (I NEED the music download) is incredible. I do wish there was a level selector after completion though. 5*!

Cool hack, perfect for beginners. Some of the last sections may be a bit tricky tho.

amazing hack! although familiar with difficult mario platforming, i'm just getting into SMW hacks and this was the perfect place to get started. challenging, but very fun!

Really fun hack! I'm looking to start playing Kaizo hacks and feels like a great stepping stone in that direction. Thanks for making it!

This was the first difficult hack I've completed, and it was really fun. The gimmicks were all really well done, and used in interesting ways. It was tough for me, but the obstacles were well signposted and it all felt fair, while still pushing me to get better.

This is a very fun hack for people who want to get an introduction into more difficult SMW stuff. For me it was hard enough to be challenging, but forgiving enough to not get frustrated. It struck a perfect balance where the level design invites you to try again and again until you finally beat that stupid fishing boo level the various mini-gauntlets.
Would definitely recommend this hack to anybody looking for a challenge!

This was FANTASTIC! I've been playing a bunch of easier Kaizo lately, and while they are fun in their own way, it's really nice to have some wiggle room while still being presented with interesting and creative challenges! 😻😻

This hack was just soooooooo coool to play, not specially hard , cool levels, happy to have found a hack fun to play not too much sprites everywhere.

Fantastic job on this hack. Had a blast playing through all the levels. Very learnable design and intuitive level design. I think it is a must play for everyone that wants to design Standard Very Hard or learn a bit of kaizo level design.#smrpg{:3}

Well, this was a fun little experience. It's a neat hack for those who find Kaizo too difficult or for those who are just beginning to learn and understand Kaizo hacks. It's much more difficult than the average "Hard" hack though, and if precise/accurate jumping isn't your thing, you might struggle in this hack.

Rotating platforms, Ball 'n' Chains, and other similar objects move extremely quickly, and jumping at the wrong time can easily result in your death. Along with that, some levels have Fishin' Boos which also impede your ability to jump accurately.

That said, this hack isn't a Kaizo hack due to powerups being available in the beginning of each section and the lack of many Kaizo elements such as shell-jumping and the like; and because of the Mushrooms that are available at the beginning of each section, you're allowed to make one blunder, unlike in most Kaizo hacks in which there is a consistent lack of powerups unless it's needed to break a barrier of Turn Blocks further in the level for instance.

Zen Platforming and Of Jumps and Platforms were my favorite levels. Of Jumps and Platforms, being the final and longest level in the hack, definitely kept me engaged and attentive as each section presented me with a unique gimmick.

Overall, I'd recommend this hack for those looking for a short but difficult game that does not cross the borders between Standard and Kaizo.

Next up on my list of hacks to play is Darolac's Scary Bosses and Nice Sprites.

#lm{pal}#lm{pal}#lm{pal}#lm{pal}#lm{pal} stars! A short-but-sweet hack that delivers true platforming goodness. Great job on this hack! #smw{:peace:}

This was a fun and quick hack to play. We love how creative each section was. Although it was challenging in parts, we felt overall the difficulty was fair. We would recommend checking this hack out!

Play it! Nice Style, short and a good one for beginner

Really enjoyed this hack. I really appreciated the 1 mistake afforded in each section.

I'm beginning to learn KAIZO, and this was a nice hack for movement. About a 1 hour to complete. 5/5

This hack is extremely fun, plays directly into my cards and into what I really like about Mario levels. Just fast paced platforming and not too complex levels! 5/5 from me
NattCaat Link
It's a really good hack, the challenges are fun, the music choice is on point and every level features an interesting gimmick.
Especially the final level was really satisfying to complete, it kind of felt like the stages before were a preparation of this particular moment.
Anyways I give it a 5/5 #smw{:peace:}

Nice short hack that focuses on pure platforming with some challenge here and there. It feels sort of kaizo-ish, but you get a powerup in every level that gives you a little more room for error.

This hack is often recommended for newer players who are starting to get into kaizo, and I think it's a good choice, although make sure you're at least a bit comfortable with your movement, because this hack still requires some quick reaction time and there's a lot of pits under the gameplay.

Very enjoyable! I actually played this immediately after Slurdgery, and I can definitely see the influence (in a good way). There were a couple of sections where I felt the "flow" of a level wasn't perfect, but this was a great, short hack with a good difficult curve and creative level design. The last level was my favorite - an easy 5/5. Especially for the very last section where you seem to coalesce so many different ideas all at once so perfectly.

4/5

Had a real blast playing this hack. I'm too bad at Kaizo, but this is exactly my type of stuff. Thanks a lot! This definitely scratches my Super Mario itch much better than most official Mario games recently, and I'd totally pay for this kind of stuff. Glad to read you're working on a sequel. :)

Really fun game!! Loved it. No complaints really, I guess not having a power down animation and starting already big would be a cool addition but it's not really a problem.
This is in "very hard" but I bet it would be a nice starter hack for kaizo beginners.

10/10 the game is challenger and balanced, doing so don't be so kaizo#smw{>:|}

fun little hack, took a little less than 40 minutes to beat blind. favorite level was night of the spike. if you like nachos and slurdgery, you should consider playing this.

I finally got around to playing this and I'll echo what others said: good hack, greatly enjoyed it, only complaint is that it was very short. Keep up the good work!
KiD_ViD Link
I had a great time with this hack. My only complaint was what someone else said: I wanted more! The levels are nicely themed, and the final level is a great synthesis of everything that came before. There's some challenging platforming, but it's fair and very forgiving. I'll be on the lookout for more from Darolac in the future.

i like the music and the level design, in general it's a great hack

This was just wonderful. The jumps and platforming were super tight and felt great to pull off, and there were tons of creative gimmicks throughout (although I felt like there were way too many autoscroller sections, but I see why they were necessary to include just based on how the obstacles were created). My only actual complaint is that it was too short - I got through everything in maybe 45 minutes at the most? More pls. Gimme.

Great work :)

Glad you enjoyed it. You will like to know that I have some sort of a sequel already planned for the future. Stay tuned.

This hack demonstrates how minimalistic level design can make for a great experience. Super fun!

I am no expert or elite SMW player but even so I had a blast playing this hack.
Each level having its own gimmick as well as an upbeat track to keep you going really helps create a super satisfying experience when overcoming tough obstacles.

No joke it took me a few hours to beat because I was adamant to perfect the levels to try and get by them as smooth as possible.
It'll introduce gimmicks and hazards as a speedy but fair pace and then throw a twist at you that you'll have to work into your movements and problem solving.

Nothing feels too overbearing granted I'll probably go to the grave hating Fishing Boo.
I heartily recommend this hack to those who fancy a challenge.
Fantastic Work Darolac. #smrpg{y}

My favourite gimmick was probably the Piranha Plants just because of how creatively they were used.

I would like to say yes. The main focus of the hack is on platforming, so I think you can use it as a pre Kaizo hack if you want. In any case I have put a lot of effort into it so I'm hoping you at least have a fun time with it!

Levels are designed really nicely with each having their own gimmick.
The difficulty is really hard but fair.
The music choice and the palettes are nice.
And the way the hack ends is really nice as well.
I would recommend this hack to anyone looking for a very hard experience
