Description: This hack was dedicated to a Twitch streamer known as Glitchcat7. It's been a colossal collaborative effort from the members of his community, to create one awesome fun game starring his cat, Mallow! And, to accompany him on his journey should you choose 2 player mode, a purple feline known as Zs (based off one of his emotes) comes along for the ride.

Mallow the Cat just wants salmon, unfortunately there is no salmon at home, so he ventures out to go find the salmon! There's plenty of secrets and challenges, plenty of custom ASM, yet it keeps a homage to the classic Mario vibe.

We hope you enjoy the hack as much as we enjoyed making it!

V. 1.1 changes: fixed crash in Switching Up Dinos, fixed jank as well, and a minor aesthetic tweak in Sea of Stars

1.2 Updates: Fixed some jank, fixed bug where after 255 deaths in the kaizo world (not in this version, but applies to the master quest version) it reloads with a ghost house entrance then sends you back to the beginning of a level.

Very cute hack. Big p-balloon Mallow has got to be one of my favorite sprites. This is a fun one. It has a gradual difficulty curve, I didn't feel the jump was as extreme as folks below. It starts very easy and by the end it has absolutely earned the Hard difficulty. It leans towards longer more exploration-heavy levels but not the "wtf do I go" type of exploration. Go right. That's where you go. It's right.

There's a good amount of ASM like a random
K. Rool
fight. Most of it adds to the experience but occasionally backfires. The mine cart (bike ride) segment of Carnival Funtime is an example of this, it just doesn't feel good at all to use. Sliding down balloon staircases and having every jump eaten isn't fun. The low gravity used in several levels is another. Low gravity can be decent enough but this has a windup time to run, feels like running in molasses. A lot of levels use custom sprites, backgrounds, and foregrounds and sometimes it's really hard to tell the background from the foreground. This lead to a lot of frustrating deaths. Also worth noting, there's a lot of slowdown in a decent amount of levels.

The music choices are great. Waterworld, DKC/DKC2, EVO: Search for Eden, lot of great picks.

Too many water levels for my taste but it makes sense given Mallow loves his fish.
Crab boss
makes an appearance, mercifully with a decent sized arena and 3 HP.
Mothra
makes an appearance as the last boss, this one was frustrating. The hitbox is not at all the shape of the body. The game ends with a level called Kaizo College where you can putz around with some kaizo tricks. There's a hack after this called Super Mallow World: Master Quest that puts these to use but I haven't played that yet.

It took a little under 5 hours to complete. Video of playthrough: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqvIHerHvaus7LJCWR132iGERoVf5Oif9

I would recommend the hack, but also I agree with several comments below in that the later part of the game is kinda disappointing. The water levels, auto-scrollers and the final escape level weren't enjoyable to me, but what really bothered me were some design problems like extreme lag, blind jumps, camera issues and confusing foreground/background.
That said, the problems were only really annoying in the more difficult levels and there is a majority of really interesting, fun, creative levels.

I greatly enjoyed this hack. It took me a while, but I was able to complete it using my Super EverDrive cartridge, meaning no savestates. There were a few stages I got hung up on for a few nights, but I didn't try more than half an hour each evening. The combination of challenge and fun reminded me of playing the later stages of SMW as a kid. Well done!

Fun hack I played, I loved it, by the way, do you plan making Super Mallow World 2 or any other SMW Hack related to Mallow?

The first time I beat Yoshi Switch level (can't remember it's actual name) almost ran out of time (I finished the level with only 47 seconds left), however I didn't know there were some green berries hanging around there that could get me aroun 80+ seconds

And for Mallow's Nightmare, gosh, it literally looked as a .exe level, I usually nickname it Mallow.exe

Very good hack

Overall a really solid fun hack. Mostly great level design except for a few issues like the slowest autoscrollers I've played and some frustrating bosses. A few parts I had to use saves for but other than that I had a great time playing it and enjoyed the variety of the levels and worlds + it was awesome playing as a cool cat.

Ok, so I played the hack and it was pretty fun. It's obvious that you guys were passionate about the project - you can feel it in the atmosphere. The levels were varied and had the occasional gimmick, which consistently rekindled my interests in the hack. I also appreciate how the spin-jump is required for some of the challenges since. It's my favorite move to execute in SMW and is also really satisfying to get right.

Personally, I found all of the bosses to be frustrating. They usually ended up taking more hits than they should have or took too long or were just annoyingly gimmickey.
As the guys down below mentioned, the second part took a turn for the worst. The swimming sections were tedious and boring, and the added difficulty to some of the stages became more frustrating.
Don't get me wrong, it's not like the second part was bad, it's just that you need to know what you're doing to make hard levels fun. If my suspicions are correct, the hard levels that I enjoyed were made by the users who're more experienced here and vice versa. I checked and, as expected, a lot of the users who joined had joined in 2018, which might ofc explain why I enjoyed the second half less. Only a theory tho, I didn't make the hack so I can't know for sure.

*This is the part where I realize how much I've rambled*
Okay, despite the second part, I still enjoyed the first part a lot. I hope it doesn't seem like I dislike the hack based on how much I had to say that's negative about it. I did enjoy the hack a lot. Uh... I don't know what to put as the concluding sentence :/

God, what to talk about this hack? I LOVED IT. I don`t even care for the streamer/youtuber, i only want`d to play because of the imagination and love that you created here. The gameplay is so good, the level design (i found some visual glitchs, but nevermind), the music. THE MUSIC. OH MY GOD. A lot of SMB1-2, SMW, DK remixes, so good. By far, the best map was ``Suicide Sanctum``, because i never saw that mechanic of dying and being revived by some kind of block? And why, why didn`t you put ``Bramble Blast`` from DK2, on the level ``Skytree``? :(

PS: Just played ``Learning the ropes``, i like the idea, but the fact that i`m colorblind really did a bad experience for me, to end the level... Had to use some save states there =/

5/5

EDIT: God, i really need agree with the water levels and slow scroll levels too, it`s basically 1 cool map, 1 really bad water level from now on, changing to 4.0/5.0, also the god damnit lags because of some sprites with some maps.

And.... really? On bleck mansion, you can go up all the way using the cape, and i got to a secret area, only to see a message: Cheater. Lol.

The description tells you why the character is named Mallow but long story short: hes a streamer's cat named after Mallow from SMRPG

This hack is so sweethearted that I had fun to play with

Although the title suggested Mallow from Mario RPG, I expected that

nice hack
FedoraFriday Author Link
I can agree to most of that. The bleck mansion part I did leave subtle clues to where the two blocks were, however redesigning it would mean either making them less subtle clues, but nevertheless I've seen many people find it by accident as well. Nevertheless we'll take the criticism going forward!

This hack took a drastic turn for the worse in the second half. Multiple bland underwater levels, several slow autoscrollers, and a sharp difficulty jump in the last world make the second half not very fun to play. It's very unfortunate because the first half was decent.

The last few worlds also rely heavily on out of place gimmicks. You really didn't need a Tetris level or a mid-world King K. Rool boss. Those levels were the worst in the hack and should have been replaced with something more sensible. Bleck Mansion specifically was terrible as the entire gimmick was hiding necessary item blocks in the pitch black background with no way to tell where they are.

I will be submitting a 1.2 soon.

And KBY30 you can't submit IPS files for hacks iirc. Only bps files.
KBY30 From older version: Super Mallow World Link
shouldn't this be an .ips, not a .bps?

Yes, a very great hack indeed ! Very good ASM hack, graphics, overworld and music !

So many references to a large range of games, which bring back so good memories =]

All exits are beatable without using savestates, although some levels, especially to the end, become quite hard. And that Fishing Boo underwater boss !

I give you 5 stars (10/10), thank you all of you who participated in this wonderful hack =]

@Kaitri : As the artist who made the cat character (based off of emotes in Glitchcat7's twitch channel and pictures of the real cat), I still feel it looks more like a gerbil or hamster. But everyone else on our collab team liked what I made (except for one frame during something that I don't remember), so they went with my art.

It's definitely not the first video game with a bipedal cat, but they are always a little odd looking, aren't they?
kaitri From older version: Super Mallow World Link
damn a great hack! i enjoyed it a lot. i would rate it hard tho, i cant tell why but i had some struggles with a bunch of levels.

only 2 times did i find a way to break the hack in my advantage.
its a really beautiful well made hack.

only the last world had a couple of levels where its kinda hard to tell whats background and what isnt.

i did encounter quite a lot of slowdowns tho. some "first try or die" things like an area where you have to spinjump on a ball o chain or you drop into lava.
a few blindjumps aswell but not that many.
these points (and just the huge amount of slowdowns) makes it 4/5. otherwise it would have been 5/5. still can only recommend this hack its great!

im glad the kaizo challenges at the end got their own upload.

ps:
the model of mario as a cat is a bit weird to look at tho. its a cat. on 2 legs.

I did not think it would be a good hack, but man, she's awesome! Level design very well done, the graphics have fallen very well on it, very good and original story and finally the soundtrack that got amazing! Congratulations!
Fullcannon From older version: Super Mallow World Link
This hack has really good graphics and gameplay, with the new character. You can Play the hack well, and was good designed, except for some places.

1. Slowdown
In the first Level, when you are in the subroom with cheep cheeps and are running, the game slows down.

2. Cape
If you get the cape, you can flythough passages and whole Level like this.

Anyways, this hack gets 4 stars!

It's a pretty cute hack and overall I had a good time. My only complaints are that there is an overabundance of slow levels (namely autoscrollers and water levels) and pointless secret exits. Sometimes the gameplay was brought to a crawl because of these. Also, there were occasional design flaws such as blind drops, forced damage boosting, and that one forced podoboo jump, but none of them impeded the gameplay too much so I'm gonna let it slide.
Sometimes I wished that the levels did more with their concepts. Levels like Switchin Up Dinos and Suicide Sanctum introduced very interesting gimmicks which weren't really explored at all. Instead, they just repeated same few ideas over and over and left me a tad unsatisfied. This is more of a matter of taste, though.

My favorite level is Mallow's Nightmare - it's edgy as all get out, but it has a lot of personality. The big boo resprite is a good boy

If you read the description, Mallow is Glitchcat's cat. Funfact: he was named after the Mallow from SMRPG. True story.

I'm glad people are enjoying this. I made most of the levels, but those listed above were directly and heavily involved for a majority of the hack in one form or another.
Flabort Author From older version: Super Mallow World Link
Hahah PaperWario yeah there were quite a few of us.

I made the cat graphics. I would have included a tail, but that would have required a patch that we couldn't get to work. At least, I couldn't and FedoraFriday couldn't. You can still see the tail in some animations, when he's riding yoshi or facing directly away from the camera (aka climbing or walking north on the overworld).

I like how the hack has so many references to so many franchises, both mario and non-mario related; Every reference is well thought out and well placed, and it comes together into an experience that I do not regret being a part of. :)

Super Mallow World is one of the most together and aesthetically pleasing hacks I've every seen. It packs in so much raw emotional potential due to its nature of featuring Mallow the Cat and just how many people were involved with an insane amount of time spent on ironing everything out. Thank you Fedora for bringing us all together on this one and may we make many more in the future!
