Description: | COLORS 2 is the sequel to MolSno's 2012 Super Mario World ROM hack, COLORS. The extreme graphical simplicity of the COLORS series requires players to learn and master the properties of each color in order to win. This entry in the series adds three new secondary colors - yellow, cyan, and pink - to the mix, as well as tessellated backgrounds, new music, new and updated gimmicks, and more. |

I just died 6000+ time.
In level 8 (Colors), if you touch a Spiny as Yellow Mario, the game crashes!
0 DEATHS.
That's all!
This is a .bps I want a .ips!1. .ips is my favorite patching file format)
2. I don't want to use FLIPS (Floating IPS)
EDIT: Decided to use Flips.
Make sure to redownload.
absolutely stunned by the reactions to it
22 deaths overall, all of them at level 3. Had a lot of trouble with it until I noticed I could stop by pressing down, and even then it was still really fucking hard (still loved the level though).
4/5 stars.
LEVEL DESIGN
The hack...doesn't have that great of a difficulty curve. It peaks at around level 5 - which I died 300+ times on - and gradually goes down until the final level becomes about level 3 difficulty again.
As for the levels themselves, I'm extremely conflicted. Sometimes the level design is tricky yet actually kind of entertaining, other times it's just unfair and annoying. The entire last section in level 5 fits the latter category, though lolyoshi said it wasn't the final version of the level?? (<lolyoshi> tfw level 5 isn't even latest version <lolyoshi> GOOD ONE MOLSNO GOOD ONE)
While the overall difficulty is fairly gradual, some setups are easy while others will stop you cold, in every single level. It feels very odd - especially when these areas are right by the midway point thus meaning you have to go through another good 3 minutes of gameplay to get back there.
That said, overall, it's okay. Not the worst, not the best.
MUSIC
The first two tracks were phenomenal but after that it just sort of petered out. I know that finding music on par with Torchkas' stuff is nearly impossible, but the @0-only songs got boring fast, especially when you're taking 15 minutes to get past each level at bare minimum like me.
MISC.
Simplistic graphics are good and it's easy to tell what does what, and the intros were kind of nice too.
Probably my biggest complaint with this hack is the complete and utter lack of a save feature which severely limits enjoyment factor, and would keep players from having to spend another hour or two beating the hack again up to the point they closed the emulator or the game crashed.
Oh and the goal music doesn't play in level 2, not sure why that would be.
OVERALL
A bit of a mixed bag. Difficulty curve is weird, there's no save feature, and the music in a majority of the levels gets old fast, but the gimmicks are neat and the music in the first two levels are good (along with the goal music).
Overall, while it was hard to enjoy, I suppose I recommend it if you're longing for the days of when you'd scream obscenities at your TV while you played NES games. Otherwise, you might want to think twice as this goes beyond hard, going into unfair territory at times.
3/5, flawed but otherwise good
Just apart from its intentional difficulty (not meant to downrate for this, it's just my taste for less hard levels) and the little musical detail, I enjoyed playing this, and got impressed by its overall quality. It's been a really long time since I had played a so well done hack in almost every aspect.
You got 4 stars! And I died exactly 255 times before beating the game.
..52 deaths, LOL
