However, that is not to say that this hack is entirely glitch-free. There are a couple of glitches here and there, including a fatal glitch that I will explain below. Let me discuss the glitches:
Slowdown: Slowdown was the main concern in this hack, particularly in overcrowded areas with plants; fire; and the like, and in many boss battles. Though most of the time for me, the slowdown was rather helpful, as it made me have an easier time controlling Mario due to the slow motion.
Being Stuck on Level 14: There is a severe game-breaking bug in Level 14 - Piranha Castle. Apparently, under certain circumstances, after defeating the boss in this level, the player gets stuck on the battle arena and the player will not be able to do anything until the timer runs out (the screen does not teleport over to the ending cutscene of this level). It is not fair, as the boss is not that easy, and retrying all of that is just frustrating.
That said, it is a great hack overall. The overworld was beautiful, the palettes were awesome, the music was ear candy, and the gameplay was fantastic!
I definitely would recommend this hack to those who want to play a hack that is half-short and is fun to play, and contains a plethora of custom paraphernalia.
If there is a SMW - Piranha Island 2 in the works, I am definitely looking forward to it!
5/5 stars
Most enemies are stationary with predictable patterns, making the platforming genuinely intense, but still fair. Felt like a Castlevania bullet hell.
Aesthetics are wonderful as well, albeit a little overwhelming at times.
I'm excited to see more in the future. You really seem to know what you're doing
I liked many aspects of the game in which you "Piranha"-fied.
The levels look really pretty and are pleasing on the eyes.
I'd like to see more hacks from you.
Ah well, it's still fun. Creative too.
The main improvement I would suggest is go a bit more mellow with the aesthetics - the pollen in the background is often very distracting, and most of Piranha Plant's projectiles / fire balls blend in with this decoration. As pretty as that effect is, it hinders the gameplay.
