Description: This is a hack I've been working on for a while now, after canceling New Super Mario World I I wanted to created a different hack that would be the very first adventure of mario, guess what, its this game, M1A, it includes:
-Some Graphics
-Custom sprites
-Some blocks
-ASM (no, nothing gimmicky, just for the multiple midway point patch and Layer 3 ExGFX)
-And Lots of custom music!

Well, hope you enjoy a few months of work, cheers.

ALSO, there are no powerups and the hack is kind of hard.
fixme: music issues on accurate emulators.

Its a cool demo, I personally enjoyed it. I really liked the bonus level.

Few things to note:
- There is a Koopa in Tiku's Haunted Test that is sometimes invisible during the boss fight, as well as the throw block its guarding when you pick it up, but its still usable
- Sometimes enemies don't spawn, like in Koopa Kastle, where a Paratroopa doesn't appear in the lift area with the spikes
- The last comment here states that its possible to achieve a mushroom in the third level, there is another one you can get in the fifth level as well by doing the same thing, I did it by chance, didn't use it though, wanted to beat all the levels without powerups.

I'm honestly surprised this was resubmitted and accepted again, considering the quality is subpar at best... Here's a couple tips before playing:

-It's possible to actually achieve one mushroom throughout the entire game, which is done by bringing an object to the goal post in the third level.
-The Secret Exit of Face of Fear is quite complicated; you have to collect a green coin that signifies the midway point SFX and kill yourself. Re-entering the level will allow for the player to be right behind the goal post, continuing towards the secret exit.

E: I mean... I did my own hack save stateless. Props? Nah.

Kind of hard. More like IMPOSSIBLE!
No, seriously, I admit I cheated on a few sections, since this one requires you to be a kaizo player in order to pass some of them.

The design is okay. The author uses many different gimmicks in his levels. Some of them were pretty interesting, I particularly liked the one with the dark face. Very tricky but enjoyable. Of course, not everything is perfect, and this reflects what I said in the beginning. Some parts are really frustrating, no way you can clear them without savestates. Reminding that there are NO POWERUPS IN THE WHOLE GAME, and one hit makes you die and restart. I hate the bonus level with passion, this is the level I had to cheat in, since there's no way you can go all over that with one hit only. The way it gets after the midway point even... not going to say more. A good design, but sometimes it's too sadistic.

Aesthetics are stunning. If you don't consider the fact they extremly clash, they look pretty good. This one was probably a relevant hack in those old days, since there are hardly hacks that do so much. Again, in my point, I didn't really like the overall, it just... doesn't fit with the redrawn style too much.

Some issues:
- Some loud noises happen in the beginning of certain musics on accurate emulators.
- I wonder how the secret exit in "Face of Fear" is supposed to be taken. It's almost impossible to get after the goal without touching the tape, but since there's lots of impossible stuff in this hack, I'm not considering this as a side issue.

Overall, it's decent, but too frustrating to be enjoyed. 2/5.
