Vanilla Twist! | World 6 stuff! (Back on track)

Standard

The small ponds have to be XY-fliped, as they currently look like blue orbs instead of ponds...
Your layout has been removed.
Dude, that is actually a pretty interesting OW so far. Also try experimenting with different palettes. And I agree with xlk, flip 'em. Other than that, a nice start =)

It's a Amazing OW! My tip is you darken more the Green Palette.
Thanks for all the comments!

Xlk, when I flip them, they get even more strange, and still look like orbs. I'll see what I can do anyway.

First level images (thanks to Deeke for indicating a proper music for it):

And that's about it.

Yes, the piranha plant is still red. I know there's a patch to fix it but I don't remember which one it is! Anyone does?
It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?

The patch is the Piranha Plant Fix Patch. Just search for it in the patches section.

As far as I know, the Piranha plant doesn't only fix the stem but it fixes an obscure VRAM bug that could crash the entire hack...

Well, using the same post, I've to say, your hack is looking very good although for me looks a bit flat but this shouldn't be a problem. ;3
Ah yes. I have it with me. I've applied it but it didn't work. Perhaps I've applied this wrongly? I'll try again and let's see what happens. Thanks, anyway.

Thanks for the comment, DiscoMan. Yeah, my design is a bit flat, specially in this level that won't have vertical scroll. :)

Well, I might reinforce that this isn't too much linear but I think that you should probably add a bit more enemies and a bit more decorations but overall it's very good as I've said before.
That first level is looking nice so far.

BUMP!

Wow, this thread is way old. I couldn't keep it updated so it died, but I kept working on my hack. Also, milestone (I was planning this since long ago). #w{=3}

If anyone recalls this thread, the name was different. I changed it because 'Vanilla Twist' seemed so perfect and seems to fit well too, as the hack uses the original graphics, but includes other custom stuff.

I've also changed the plot, but it's not really done.

Anyway, time to show stuff:

Videos (passed my entire afternoon submitting both):

Evil Line Engine, aka the first castle. I think it's more difficult than it should, but eh.

May be renamed, ironically it's world 4-5 but I made it way easy for some reason. #w{x(}

Screenshoots:

I call this level Deep Forest. It's the first of the three levels on world 3 (yes, the biggest world lol):

Deep Forest Swamp, the first level finally complete!:

And Chains 'N' Stuff, the third castle (world 3's last level!), it's not complete yet (only first room ready); by the way, the point of this level is reach the switch and go back to the start in a different way:

Plus: the OW is 85% complete! All it misses is something at the northeast. Anyway, I'm showing both versions closed and with events:

Comments appreciated. :)

Now if you were using dialogue, that would be okay for me, right now it just seems weird. Maybe you could also explain why there are just #lm{owmsg} floating around, like someone sent them to you to guide you through peril?

Like the forest BG you used in levels 1 + 3. Now, I guess you didn't put these levels side by side, but at first glance I couldn't tell which level was which. So really if you're going to put these levels into your hack, you should space them out a bit, like a couple more levels or so.
That's all for now since I didn't look at the videos yet.
Nice vanilla-styl ish hack must I say! I will keep an eye to this thread...
OMFG ITS YOUR 2000TH POST TEACH ME HOW TO DO IT PLLLZZZZZZ

In all seriousness though, I'm liking the things so far. I don't see why you cannot use the same background more than twice, since the original SMW also did it.

Awesome work here, Austin. Personally talking, I did like most your OW. Any submap preview coming? I'm curious to see...

Dream team (feed them, please):

Thanks guys!

Mini Coin: yay, a perfeccionist point you got there. I got the message fixed. I won't change the BGs though, I don't see any problems with it.

Ximseiken: cheers dude! :D

Archie: thank you! Also, you're doing it the right way, just keep posting as much as you can and you oh wait didn't notice the strike so sddsfsgddsf.

Manuz: thanks! Well unfortunately I didn't even start the OW. I took MONTHS to make the main one, so I probably won't finish any so early. Sorry. :(

I'll post something else later.

Ok, update time!

I've submitted a video for the first level. It's done since long ago, but as I was playing it and recording (with the intention of recording something else :P), I decided to show it because why not.

Also, this is the fourth level. It's the forest that leads to the Yellow Switch. How to get to the secret should be obvious. :P

Nice level so far.Must wacth the full video...But in overall: Would like to play the vanilla-ish hack! Does it have any story?
Kinda... There's some story sheet took from the first post:

Quote
I'm not sure about the plot, but it's like: Mario and Yoshi were searching for Toadstool in many places of the world. So they found an island to rest a bit. So they found a continent near this island. Exploration starts!

I'm planning to develop the story as long as you go through it, like a part Mario will be sure the Princess is there and maybe other stuff. There will also be one or two special world(s).

Thanks for the support. :) I'd appreciate if you watch the complete video when you get the chance! ;)

I've watched both levels and I think they look really good. Didn't found many issues though. Keep it up!
