Patching SM64 hacks

Make sure you download a clean SM64 ROM before we go, It's your responsibility to legally do that. SMWCentral we not in any way supply you with any ROM's.

Firstly you must extend your ROM with VL-Tone's Mario 64 ROM Extender. After that apply the PPF patch on the extended ROM with PPF-o-Matic 3.0. The ROM should be loaded on the "ISO file" field and the .ppf file on the Patch field.

If you encounter any error's in loading any hack's in Project 64, you'll have to change the "Default Memory Size" to 8MB. To do this, click on Options -> Settings -> Options and uncheck "Hide Advanced Settings". Click OK and now do Options -> Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Default Memory Size -> 8MB. Once you do that, just ignore any warnings and the ROM should load fine.
This doesn't seem to be working for me unfortunately.
I've downloaded the "star revenge" hack. I've extended it and applied to a clean ROM. Then I loaded it in PJ64 and get an error which states "In a pernament loop which can not be exited. Emulation will now stop". I've tried to change the default memory size like you have stated, but sadly that doesn't make it work.

Can you figure out what might be wrong?

PJ64 can be a bit funny with hacks, try doing this and everything should go smoothly. (You may also have to unclick Hide Advanced Settings under the section tab to access it).
Same as JDC. I'm using Twisted Adventures. My Roms seem to be pre-extended, so I patched it without a hitch (it did take forever). I then opened it up in P64 and got the same error message. I then opened it in Mupen, which was fine, except Mupen doesn't display video on my computer apparently. I've already changed the memory. The original ROM works fine. I will try with a "legacy" version of P64 from a couple years ago, but I'm still at a fault.

e: ninja'd and still not working for me.

e2: P64 hasn't updated in 7 years? No legacy for me. 1964 got me to the file select screen and crashed, usually it speeds through the start and stops.

So did it come up with the same error after changing the "Memory Size" to "8 MB"?

Yes. Just tried it.
Alright (well this is embarrassing), it seems as though SomeRussianMarioDude sent the a bad PPF file. I help patch all the other ROM so they should work fine). I'll probably go and correct that now. I'm really sorry for that, should have double checked patching with a fresh SM64 ROM before approving it.
lol, it was just a bad patch? All that worrying for nothing. I'm going to go play Monochrome Mario.

Also, is patching suppose to take a while? Whenever I patch with a ppf, it always just takes a really long time, in opposition to a SNES patch being patched instantaneously. It might just be my computer.

e: New Problems!

Monochrome Mario has a different bug. The Cic chip apparently is unhandled. Anything I can do to prevent that?

Missing Stars has another permanent loop. Maybe I have a bad dump...
the CIC chip error you need simply click away, and run the emulation further leave.

The loop error etsteht permanently, by the wrong patch the ROM.
Eg: In my hack you must make no patches on it except my own. But some hackers make the errors that have applied the patch after the "obj_import6.ppf" create. That's why you need only the "obj_import6.ppf" play, then install the patch with the game.
Attention! I use Google translator, since I can not speak English. Not text mess surprised.
For anyone having troubles playing SM64 Twisted Adventures, I fixed the file if anyone wants to re-download it.

@Egadd Yeah just ignore that error message, it was because I originally forgot to fix the checksum. It's fine.

What about This one, which is the one I downloaded. Does that work for you?

It's still not running. I'm going to go get another rom, I think mine is screwed. #smw{@_@}
Help! I patched it and ppf o matic said to burn it to a disk

Oh just ignore it, it says that because PPF was originally intended for iso files. Nothing to worry about,
Question: Do you have to put the "obj_import6.pff" in the rom to patch it? I was wondering since like 3 or so hacks I've tried to patch give me the loop message. Either that or I'm using a bad rom. Also when you change the rom settings from default to 8mb, it does not save for me on my emulator (pj64 1.6) Out of all the hacks I've patched, Only one that worked for me was Mario's Nightmare. I guess either I'm patching wrong or something. Any help?
as I said my hack "Mario's Nightmare" which requires "obj_import6.pff" no, it is enough if you are only applica least my patch. For other hackers, it can happen that you have to use the "obj_import6.pff" before their patch.

The problem is that most people consider it a matter of course, without looking at how to create the patch. Indicating that the patch is not needed previously. I myself riddle sometimes I want to play strangers Hack how the patch is applied.

I use Google Translate, so not surprised by text mess.

There's a long list of N64 Emulators. Which one is the best one for playing SM64 Hacks?

Sorry if this is the wrong thread for this...
well I think Project64 version 1.6 best, and this is also used by most people. With him you're ready Anyway best to play Mario 64 hacks.

So I've patched Star Road to an extended ROM and did everything you said, but I get a black screen, no error messages or "Let's-a go!" What could be the problem?
Kinda in hibernation for a while. I hope to be back in full swing soon.
RDRAM found the emulator to 8MB?
