Dark Side of the Kingdom .update new intro!

Standard

Egadd,I that airship idea is a nice simple idea. #ab{;)}
Sublevels: Should we keep track of them or not? I could host a list of sublevels while Blind Devil is busy for the weekend. Eventually we'll have to keep track.

Yes we should keep trackof them.

Also should we have bosses out side of castles and forts.

I say no. None of us currently have the ability to code amazing bosses, so bosses should be few and far in between. One a world, maybe 2 if a fort is there. This isn't Brutal Mario.

Not done yet. I am just showing you the chagnes I made to world 2
So tell me what you think about it.

Edit: The level tiles are not placed yet

Looks somewhat better. It's pretty boring though. Also, change some of the level locations, the three on the bank of the river would benefit from being either in the water or fully on land.
Egadd,I also argee with you about the bosses . like Yoshi Island one or two per world not unless it for the plot.

Pretty good, but it too flat! Try adding hills and decoration.

Yes we should keep track of them.

Agreed. Sooner or later, this will be necessary. And nice it's soon enough. It'll become even more important when we get to the cutscenes programming phase. We will probably need to mess around with some main levels, too, as we will be having cutscenes at the beginning of each world, à là SMWCP.

@Egadd, you're welcome to the sublevel tracking task.

While the idea is acceptable, I would make some heavy edits to the environment, like adding decoration and modifying the terrain a bit, because the river is way too thin, and it makes some water level tiles hard to place into it.

*about bosses*

Too many bosses would make the game rather frustrating (I mean in terms of gameplay variety), and as already said, extremely epic bosses will break the originality, as well as the cohesion. I vote for bosses only in Fortresses and Castles, though we can have in some Ghost Houses, too (not all of them).

For the record, I have sent a PM to Oh Hell No regarding the Mushroom Kingdom submap he did, as I want to insert it into the base as soon as possible.

----------

And here I come with progress... the Honey Forest submap.

Aside from that, I tried to implement the fixed gradient shading at the bottom of every level, but failed. The ROM crashed every time I tried to insert the codes using a method that wouldn't require LevelASMTool (and I don't know how to use that tool).

And the Base ROM again. Honey Forest submap is there, hex edits were made, and I've fixed the OW from previous Base ROM and a minor cutoff tile in Level 017.

TheOneSuperx: Liking the idea of the two rivers, but as Daizo and others said more decor would be good ^.^

Blind Devil: Absolutely loving the colours of that submap, bravo dude!
I made the last minor changes to the submap and made the upper grass a bit darker. Here's the IPS!

OW 1st Submap

BTW: Great Submap Blind Devil!

@Blind Devil, Excellent OW! The colors work very nicely together.

I'm up to the task of keeping the sublevels. I'm currently using 27 & 28 for my level (tides) so I'll write that up and send BD a link. If you wouldn't mind, could you link to it in the second post of the thread?

On the topic of my level, it's somewhat finished. DarkBones is finishing up a mountain FG for the level and I have to finish up the puzzle for the secret exit. It's a little on the short side, but I think it should be good. I'll upload a vid at somepoint.
Thanks, people, for the feedback! Really glad to know you've liked it!

@Oh Hell No: Thanks for sending the map. I'll see if tomorrow I'm able to link the new Base with your submap inserted.

Also I should be crediting Incognito for the ideas he gave both for my level and OHN's submap.

@Egadd: Yes, no problem on linking it to my second post. Once done, send me the linked TXT and soon I'll put it there. On another note, may I ask you to put the following into your TXT:

"Claiming a sublevel is not necessary. This file has the purpose of clearly keep track of sublevels on ROM only."

As for your level, yeah. Looking forward.

Level 22 sans the new tileset is here! I've also submitted the sublevels chart, so just tell me when you need a sublevel.

You mean this one?

Its not quite done yet as you can see, but I figured I'd let everyone else see what I have so far too. Also, do you want mountainish decorations and such, or just the ground tiles?
Eh, sure. Why not? Kaizo hacking doesn't seem too ha-aaaaaaand I broke the ROM.

Looking great, man! Could you try to adapt the existing decorations (mainly bushes) to the tileset? That would match what I've already made and would make it look like "A Rocky Creek With Random Plants From the Abundance of Water". That would be awesome, thx. We can probably use this for the rest of the mountain world as well, so this is great!

e: Now that I think about it, could you include some rocks and the like for decoration? We might use this again for another level.

I'll see what I can do, but I've still got the other slopes to go...

I'm also going to take the Smash Mountain composition, to get my gears turning to terms of music.

Also, DarkBones, take your time. No rush.
@DarkBones: Great tileset, looks awesome! Yeah, some other decorations can do it fine, too. Also, I would like to suggest doing grassy vertical ledge edges, as only outlined dirt looks passable.

@Egadd: Thanks for the level. I'll be testing it tomorrow or tonight (oh crap, here in Brazil the timezone just have changed due to Summertime, I'm a bit disoriented). And the Smash Mountain song is yours. Added to the list.

----------

Might as well let you guys know that I'm about to do updates to levels on my on. As a said example, I may create some Castle Courtyard thing to add into Level 1, and I'll edit the BG a bit so it will look better and coincide a bit more with the submap-- hey, the BG was already edited.

And some plain randomness (I was bored and did this thing):

Based on the Carrot/Timed Lifts and the Orange Sinking Platforms. Reminds a lot of Yoshi's Island, and it's perfectly fitting in a Vanilla-like environment.

Should I continue it? If so, I do plan on releasing it to SMWC, too.

----------

New Base ROM including Oh Hell No's submap and other minor modifications. Might add some cloud mist to his submap, as well.
