World 6 Boss: Hartfowl - HuFlungDu[ASM] & Ladida[GFX]

Complete

Why, if there is a ExGFX for it already, why people asked me to make graphics for it?

I'm fairly sure we need a lot more poses for the guy if he is to function like a boss. It would be pretty stupid if he just stood still while attacking you, directly or indirectly, wouldn't it?

Not to mention, he doesn't look very intimidating as he is. Maybe make a sprite in a more fight-ready style? You should probably listen to HuFlungDu regarding what poses are needed, though.
aran - Graces of Heaven
then i'll work on that duck.

Hi.
Layout by LDA during C3.
Just to point something about the graphics...
I did not had a minute of free time the last 2 weeks. And probably will be busy this week as well. Though i'll work on the gfx in every spare time i can find.

My car is broken, my weekends go to that. Weekdays are for job search. I don't know when I'm going to be working on this again.

Job search includes learning new languages and frameworks, which also takes away my weekends, making it a full time job itself, so I've even had to put fixing my car on the back burner.

If anybody wants my code or anything if they want to do this themselves that's fine, but I seriously cannot predictably work on this, as I mentioned a while back when I said I would be the "tentative" owner and work on it when I could, but to encourage someone else to take it up.
I'd offer it to cstutor but he's sort of working on the world 2 boss right now.

I guess you can send it what you have to me so far (just so I can pass it on if I need to), but I'll leave the ownership of this boss to you for a while. Just work on it when you can I guess, and if you still haven't made any real progress when the other coders are done, I'll see if one of them wants to finish it up.
Just posting to say I was able to make some progress on this, but nothing to show off. Basically all I did was make it run 2x faster (that is, code wise, so I could have more sprites on the screen) and implemented the state system (and callbacks).

Meh, it's something I guess.
I guess you can send whatever you have over to p4plus2 (he expressed interest in it a little while ago) unless you wanted to keep trying to truck through it.
I'll try to talk to him tonight.

For now, I was working on this a bit more, created the first few states, minus the duck himself, here's a video.

Basically, regular circus music will be playing at the beginning, then you jump on the ferris wheel and it takes you up (you can't move at this time). Once you get up, you see the duck in a gondola or on a platform or whatever, and he has an over sized switch with him. After you stop, he does a little pose as the boss music starts (with some kind of orchestral hit thing? Whatever) then he flips the switch and the battle begins (I think it would be funny if he has to put his entire weight into the switch to flip it). During the battle, he'll randomly choose an attack to do, I seriously have no idea what those attacks may be, except maybe trying to drop a bomb on you, and one of them will be him changing the direction of the wheel, presumably faster and faster as you hurt him. While I'm on the subject, I still have no idea how you will hurt him, maybe some kind of platform shows up and you can jump on it? Maybe that's part of an attack, I dunno, open to ideas.

I think KHQMaster had a pretty good idea in his comment on the video.
Your layout has been removed.

I agree, I'll be pursuing that to see if it will work out.
*ahem*

I would like to start my speech with...
As for some ideas for additional attacks, maybe something that involves some of the Duck's fellow carnies (especially Barons von Zeppelin, Fire Chomps, and other lesser-used aerial foes) rushing to his aid? That's sort of the idea I was trying to convey with the "Hey, Rube!" line in the script (that being the traditional carny call for reinforcements when getting in a fight with the public), and also plays into the idea of the boss being the fellow who quite literally runs the show here.

So any way I can get an update one what is going on with this boss? Haven't heard anything in like a month so...

bump

Got a PM from HFD. He said he should get some work done on this, this week sometime
Layout by LDA during C3.
Yeah, here's what I got done this weekend. Started with the duck, currently he's garbled graphics because I don't have his GFX, and hitting him is going to be much smoother looking (the way it is is just to get the idea across), but this should let you know what exactly I'm thinking.
This is looking neat already; the fact that you can't stop moving should give the boss a fun and unique feel to it. The only thing I can really think of to suggest at this point (though this early in the development phase it's not really a big deal) is to figure out some reason why Mario dies if he falls off; I figure something simple like the ground giving way to a bottomless pit after Mario jumps on the Ferris wheel would work nicely.
I should get a new layout.

Probably won't, though.
Update. Added another attack, where the Duck calls for a circus creature to be shot out of a cannon at the player. Currently has a couple bugs I don't understand, but this is the idea, anyways.

Edit: I should add that, as it stands, this boss is already pretty difficult, I would be reluctant to add too much more to it in that area.
