Anybody know how to convert .asm to .bin files for creating custom block types?

Not sure if anyone told you this, but...

You can simply use the program TRASM. It comes with Sprite Tool. Just drag your .asm file over it, and drop. You instantly get a .bin file....if your ASM stuff was done right.

As for your screens, they look nice. REALLY nice. What kind of bonus game are we talking about for the chests?
Thats great. I couldnt find anywhere that said what tool to use. d'oh!!!

For the levels with Treasure Chests that don't have a specific secondary exit I will most likely just make the level branch of to a Switch Palace type level. Seeing as 1ups are being replaced with Hearts (100 of which makeup an extra life I want a few mini games to earn lives. Which will come in handy as I plan to also disable the item box.
No way that wouldn't be overly complicated to implement the treasure system like in Wario Land I guess ?

I don;t think it would be that complicated. Create a sprite that uses a specific (treasure) gfx based on the level, then adds that treasure to the goal room with a sprite generator.

I think I was trying to take the cheap route out of too much asm but after a bit of thought/time I recon could pull it off.
That would be major nice. I think SMW's system lacks good opportunities to implement secrets with a permanent "reward" outside of overworld changes. If you pull this thing out I'm guessing quite a few people would be interested in putting it into their future hacks. Heck, we should pay you a few dollars for it ;D

I really, really don't think you should release the custom graphics that you are making for your hack. It would make your hack a lot less unique and impressive.
Can't remember if I commented or not already, but I think this looks amazing. The graphics are coloured extremely well, and are warm and go nicely together.

Don't worry BBS I won't be releasing any more tilesets. All the graphics shown in my hack are for use in my hack only. I totally agree that often the uniqueness of hacks is lost when the style gets ported over to someone else project.

Progress since last update:

- I have been busy importing all my new tilesets into a clean rom (the former SMW rom was becoming a bit cluttered with old tests).
- Compressed all the outdoor Rice Beach GFX into one 128x64 pixel bin file. This helps me keep my tilesets organised and I was able to weed out some useless/reused tiles. :)
- Finally bothered to try some extended animation so I could create underwater Piranha plants too.
- Finished creating gfx for the water tiles, powerup, bounce and switch palace blocks.
- Settled on a set of custom sprite palettes and started work on sprite gfx for Wario Land enemies.

I like the wooden posts, the blue Pirahna plants, and just about all of the others, the only thing I would change is to make the purple block a little darker, but no too much darker.
Available for bug-testing/play-testing.

I never liked the Wario Land Graphics, but in your hack they're very well revamped. Also, the animated tiles are AMAZING!
plz can you post a video of the hack!

It's blinking. >_>

Also, graphics, animation and palettes look incredible, NEONswift.

I guess its super blinking. Does the block do something special in your game? Same as in Wario?

I actually tried making the purple palette darker but it didn't look right next to the other colours. The purple blocks (switch palace blocks and grab blocks) will not play a major part in Super Mario Land 3: SNES Edition (Plugging my use of "SML3SE" and the games name change) as they weren't in the original Wario Land.

I would if I know how to make videos by the time I finish recreating Course 1 again.

It's only super blinking because the timing between frames in that image are shorter than in SMW. In game its less noticeable and even less so when you're busy playing the levels.

The blocks are the equivalent of Question Mark Blocks in SMW. They had no "special" function except for giving coins, hearts or powerups in Wario Land. They have the same function in SML3SE.

EDIT: And as always thankyou all for the compliments.
really amazing, the palletes, the exAnimation blocks, everything seems so well designed, colored, etc. All the tilesets are beautifull, im looking forward to play this and now, im feeling a little bit jealous of your amazing work.

the only thing i didn`t like it`s the fact that you are not releasing the tilesets, i think thats bad because it`s kinda selfish with some of us that will like to use them on our hacks, but whatever, its your decision.

Thats it

Do the pirahna plants act like the black nippers, or can they move a little?

This remake is very amazing, a like this game from my Game Boy.
a 1th demo?
I really don't understand the deal with not wanting to release graphics. If you mean you won't even be releasing the graphics after your hack is released, I find it a huge waste because such good graphics could be reused to produce other quality hacks.

However of course not releasing the graphics before the release of this hack makes sense so your hack and work on the graphics get the full attention they deserve.

I think it would be very interesting to try to reproduce Wario movements as in the original game, and replacing Mario with a large Wario sprite. Is that much possible ? I think I'd be interested in trying to work towards that goal (I know assembly).
