RISE feat. Other Projects (still dead as always, but somehow posts all of a sudden)

Standard

Oooooooh those are some goregeous custom layer 3 effects, Underway! I really appreciate hacks with extra layers, parallax scrolling, or similar background tricks because it's something you don't see very often, and something that takes quite a bit of skill to do. Your graphics are quite nice, blending SMW and custom, like in Super Mario Odyssey. As for your level design, I find your terrain to be varied and decorated, but I'll have to play your hack to get the full experience and be able to provide accurate critique.

Well done sir, but may your time be managed well. This project doesn't deserve to die out like so many others.

hey, i see that this upside down water tile in front of the trunk is causing cutoff. =p
and you may have already noticed, but the exanimate water like this has a timing problem. nothing that can be easily fixed though.

but nice as always, underway, keep up the good work =o
It doesn't look that cut-off-ish in motion and I can't really do something about it anyway.
Double post, meh 3:

If been working on the Overworld of the hack for a bit :3 Here is how far I got with the first world.

Ignore obvious cutoff, please.

Each world will have 10 levels and there will be 4 worlds. I'm going to only use the main map for the four worlds (if I have the space for that).

Very nice and interesting island you have there! Is it mostly vanilla? Or are there quite a few titles you made yourself? Anyway, great job!

Looks nice so far ^^ The custom tiles fit very well. What I don't like are the lakes, I think they don't fit your style, but the idea is pretty neat of course ;)
The map could also have some more 8x8-decoration, maybe the little brown rock-type-things from smw?
BlackMage: It's mostly vanilla. The only things I added are the palm trees, the SMB3 hills, edited the lakes, added some tiles with more lines in the dirt usw. nothing big.

depp: Better like this?

Yup, I think it's much better, also if you just added some little tiles ;)

Not a bad map at all so far. Nice variation in height and slopes, great palettes and it's really well decorated. The thing that's bugging me though, is that the path where the levels go through doesn't really variate in height that much: only the stuff around it does.

Oh, and that forest level is looking splendid as always! I can see you used a falling leaves cluster sprite there, but are those raindrops a generator or cluster sprite of some sort too?
Yeah, your strong point is definitely level atmosphere and making every level look extremely appealing. But the level design? I don't really see to many sprites in there, yet. Hope it will be fun to play too!

Keep it up bro!

The paths will be more varied in the second half of the map. And there aren't much enemies in the forest level because the level is just one and a half screens at the moment xD The raindrops actually are just animated floating water.
Double post again 3:

A bit more overworld and a bit of the first levels secret exit.

The small bubbles move like the fish layer 3 btw.

Does that level seem familiar? ;)
Wow, what a lovely island! I quite love what you have for the overworld already! :D

The bubbles are looking pretty nice too!

Oh my word bro, this is looking fucking insane. The atmosphere you've created in that level is just perfect! The palettes are really nice, that wavy HDMA gives it an aquatic feeling and those bubbles... very creative and fitting. Never seen something like that before. The level design in the second screenshot also looks really nice. Might be one of the first underwater level I'll enjoy once you release this hack. And the overworld is really coming along nicely too! Keep up the fantastic work. ^_~
Black Mage: Thanks :3

GvS: Is that level really that good? I personally think that it doesn't look that good compared to the others. Of course I'm happy that you like it that much, though ^^ Thanks for the feedback, bro.

Also got a new userbar from Goldenroy (<3) if you wanna use it here's how it looks and the code.

More double post :<

Just two more videos of the two levels I showed screens of before.

Secret Exit

Normal Exit
you use the spin jump button a lot man

anyway, besides the traditionnal "that sure is nice and pretty":

-in the normal exit, you go through a hole in the ground, and yet it is perfectly similar to the regular ground, same colour and same texture.
-and in the secret exit, you use the same floral decoration as in the previous segment.
it's great for the extra grass on slopes, but the hills and the ciseled SMB3 Bush are looking out of place IMO.

i like also how you made the current in the water segment, not too strong and annoying, and not too weak and invisible.

and yeah, that sure is nice and pretty
Spy: gonna copy your system right there xD

-You don't have to go down there. It's just an alternativ way which doesn't contain a Yoshi-Coin or something else so I think that's okay. It also is implemented by a coin that there is something down there.

-That's because I was kinda going for a flooded, overgrown temple. I could change that, though. If it really looks that out of place.
This hack is very pleasing

I just love everything you do with it

I placed the userbar in my bio
Thanks, Uhrix :3 I like hearing that. Especially from an awesome hacker like you :3
This is a magical work in progress. The layer 3 magic was a great choice to proceed with (The Leaves & Bubbles are a wonderful touch to an already great aesthetic layout).

Cant wait to see what other flavors are in store. Underway, well done with the OW. A very excellent first world startup.

As recommendation: Keep the general OW as a series of islands. The borders of the entire map should all be water, as to seperate the land as a series of islands in the middle of an ocean. Kinda like "Chocolate Paradise".

If room allows, allow a 2nd Island that is a rather large landmass, and a 3rd island with a sizeable mountain on it. Again, plop a random construct, and build from there. 1st idea is often the best idea.

Perhaps a Toad/Yoshi village, sunken ruins, a jungle, cave river, vine puzzle, bridges, quicksand/mud levels, an abyssal hole, gold temple, wood stilt village, wooden fortresses, wooden castles, stone constructs, sunken ship, vividly colored coral reefs...

The chocolate possibilities are endless. Keep at it Underway!
