Yoshi's Adventure - Shadows From Subterranea (Kabu Caverns!)

Standard

Yahoo! I've been waiting on this for a long time. As always, those Sonic screenshots are looking amazing. Very well done. Since this hack is back in progress, I can put it back on my "Hacks in Anticipation" list, correct?

Thank you very much! I'm glad you're happy about it :3 .

Indeed, you are correct! I'm glad to hear that you're excited, and I apologize for the long wait!

Anyway, I'm actually thinking of getting a two-world demo ready once I finish a few things up in World 2! Though, it wouldn't have any cutscenes or end-of-world bosses. Would I still be allowed to submit it without the bosses? (I'd have goal spheres in the boss room so the player can still progress).
I necessarily don't care much for them, go ahead if that is what you desire.
Iceguy's Boss Sprite was removed from the sprites section, and I don't have a fresh copy of it, so I haven't been able to design any new bosses yet. Though, multiple copies of that sprite take up a lot of space.

As for cutscenes, I'm not going to start on those until most of the levels are finished (using secondary exits, so I need to see how many I have to work with after using them in levels. I'm going to try to use the VWF patch with it.)
Reutrn? Awesome hack incredible. What may roll out next!? Can't wait to sees!
Cant wit to see something as amazing as this!

I can detect a sort of Sonic pun in there, lol.

Either way, Winter Break is coming up, so I'll have a lot of time to work on this (even though it's only 10 days long; I'll also be beta testing another hack). So, I'll try to have some more screenshots ready during that time.

Well, since that has been taken off, I could send you one our Crater Bosses, nessacarilly the Final Hunter boss used from IceGuy's boss sprite. I've made it more customizable, giving it extra sprite slots, Custom and Normal, plus one more animation slot and another Randome Sprite slot. Would you like that?

Really? Thank you very much! I really appreciate it, especially since I don't know how to code bosses from scratch. Also, excellent job adding in the extra routines! This will be a very useful template, and again, thank you!
A little late, but here's the usual post-C3 recap!
For anyone who didn't attend, these are screenshots of the next two levels in World 3, along with a little preview of the 4th! :D

First, we've got a woodland level with plenty of flowing water:

Warp Star transportation! :D

Next up, we have a Sand Canyon-styled level with plenty of cacti!

An Oasis level comes up next! (though, I'll have more progress on this one posted soon)

A rather silly bonus room that I made for the previous level :P

Looks great as usual. I really liked the way the water looks in the last picture you showed.

Background looks really nice too. I will definitely play the demo once it's released.

YAY, THIS HACK AGAIN!
I must say that the screenshots are looking really superb! The GFX combination is simply brilliant and great looking, the levels look very fun to play too. Especially loving that woodland level
Great job on this!
Thank you very much, guys! :)

Thank you! Since this is an oasis, I waanted to make the water look a little more "contained", and Kirby-like, so I gave some of the water a bit of a water-rock transition effect.

By the way, this level is almost finished (just need to make some enemy GFX), so I'll post more screens soon!
Like always, superb work! I do say that the choices of graphics and sprites (they are "technically new", lol (reffering to sprites ;P)) are great, I can only imagine the music choices are superb as well. The game play looks amazing as well! Is that a cat I see in the image the coins make? XD

I can't wait to play and, with your permission, review this hack once it is fully done!

(thought you'd never see me post in these forums again, right? XD )
It's weird you have inclusive pronouns, but still only have the binary options for gender. Where is Non-Binary, Agender, etc? Not a gripe. Just curious lmao.
Pretty much finished up the oasis level (aside from competing sprite/enemy placement, which is why some screens have few or no enemies; I've been working on the next stage) and I've got some screens ready! Added a bit more decoration to the foreground for a bit of extra foliage. Raisin Ruins 2 from Kirby's Return to Dreamland was my source of inspiration for this level!

Cheep Cheep > Blipper

Sidestepper > Kany . Pitchin' Charlies (Chucks) return in this level as more frequent obstacles. Also, the area frequently transitions between the grass-covered foliage areas and the sandy, more beach/desert-like areas. Though, both still have plenty of water!

SMB Blooper > Squishy. Trying to get these to interact with objects xD. In the next screen, we have a little maze-like area with two ways to progress! The top will be the trickier one.

A small gimmick after the midpoint, those cactus enemies (graphical replacements for piranha plants) will frequently pop out of those small patches of longer grass! A message box will warn the player of this.
In the second screen, another small two-path area, this time being a choice of above or under the water! The bottom path is the more difficult one this time around, but it has a small bonus room as well!

Finally, a preview of the next stage! What's a Moai statue doing in a cave? o.o (if you know enough about enemies in the Kirby games, you'll probably be able to guess :P)

Questions/comments? #w{=3}
Completed the first area of the level I previewed in my previous post, along with most of the level's sprite graphical work. So, today I present: Kabu Caverns!

This is a cave level based around the Kabu enemies from the Kirby games, though expanded upon and in a few different forms as well! The Moai statue was a sign of the inhabitants, as the Kabu enemies seem to resemble them. Said statues will be a frequent decoration throughout the stage.

Now for the screenshots!

The ladder separates two small paths, the top being only accessible from hitting a switch in the starting area.

Taking the lower path!
Swoopers > Babut. The Chuck's/Charlie's footballs were even changed to Kabus! I used ExAnimation to put a spinning Kabu animation over the football tile instead of using a stationary frame.

A look at the upper path!
Changed the Spike Tops into a sort of Spiny Kabu, plus more Kabus of different behaviors.

A little drop-down in case the player wants to switch paths. The red pipe at the end rejoins the two paths and leads into the next area.

Kinda in hibernation for a while. I hope to be back in full swing soon.

I completely agree with you! Adding ExAnimation to sprite GFX can really add more life to sprites, especially those with few animation frames.
Once again, great as usual. I especially liked the cave graphics for the level that you're working on.

Thank you very much! It's a very useful tileset, so I've used it multiple times. Still, each time I accompany it with another tileset to spice it up! :D

As for the rock decorations, here's some new anti-aliasing I gave them last month. Should I keep this or switch it back to the old outline?

By the way, for anyone wondering about the lack of progress in awhile, I've been pretty busy with school and college applications, but I'll start this back up once everything is settled and winding down. Plus, I've got some new ideas for this once it continues!
