General TV Show / Film Discussion Thread

I watched "Airplane!" yesterday... and i've never laughed so hard in my life.

I just wanna tell you both, good luck, we're all counting on you
i just lurk sometimes
Been finishing up Batman the Animated Series.

Sorry fellow bronies, Harley Quinn > Pinkie Pie.

Also is there a term for someone who's so pathetic they're awesome? Because Bellock is my favorite character. I'd hug him, but he'd probably punch me in the stomach before walking away dramatically with a sarcastic quip while nibbling on one of his toothpicks.
So based on some recommendations, I've been watching Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated.

...

What the fuck?

This show is crazy. It's incredibly obvious the people who made this were HUGE Hanna Barbara fans. There are references everywhere. Like, for example, Yogi Bear chained up in a "high security" animal shelter with a Hannibal Lecter mask. Apparently they got sick of him stealing picnic baskets and locked him up.

I could list all the absolutely absurd things in this show but it'd be a very, very long list. If you want a very affectionate parody of Scooby Doo and several other old cartoons, watch it. It's well made, barely makes sense, often hilarious, full of drama, and still feels like Scooby Doo.

I'd list nitpicks too (I've got a bunch), but as I'm certain I'm missing out on half the details and jokes in the show by not having seen every episode of Yogi Bear, the Jetsons, Scooby Doo, etc, I'm not very qualified to judge. This is a show for Hanna Barbara fans, specifically Scooby Doo. I'm not really in that audience, so I'm mostly lukewarm to it. Definitely recommended for anyone who grew up on those cartoons, though.
I love watching Batman - TAS at 1:00am too Kaijyuu. Why are you comparing Harley Quinn with Pinkie Pie though? Harley's a lovable psychotic criminal while Pinkie Pie is a jolly party horse.

Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated I never gave a chance after What's New Scooby Doo eternally ruined the series for me.

They're really quite similar characters: both are bubbly, crazy, and prone to bursting out in song. They just have different gimmicks (pinkie = 6 year old's birthday parties, Harley = clown stuff) and Harley's got the abusive boyfriend. Their differences are mainly in theme/setting, not personality.

I like Harley better as she makes me laugh more :P A bit more "realistic" take on a wild and crazy person that is completely lacking in inhibitions.

Oh and if you liked the old Scooby Doo, I assure you you'll like Mystery Incorporated. They already made fun of Scrappy!
I've recently seen Prometheus at the cinema, so I'm going to use this opportunity to tell you it's not worth the steep ticket price. The film has a lot of major flaws present; the story is absolutely inane, the characters are generally major stereotypes, and the cast itself is too large to allow me to have a decent amount of time to get to know each one individually, which is an essential part of a film like this. A lot of the supposed dramatic moments of the film feel more like unintentional comedy, with the ending being a moment where I laughed the most. The film established everything pretty well in the first half, but got really stupid and terrible in the second half. I don't know if Ridley was trying to make some kind of fancy statement about film making, but it lacked any kind of climax and obvious motivations. It had one memorable scene throughout the entire film, which is not really worth the admission.

Perhaps the biggest problem is how this film advertised itself as a prequel to Alien, and then lacked anything relevant to the franchise in it. It had the occasional nod here and there, but it didn't need to be an Alien film at all.

I really do want to emphasise I enjoyed the first half a lot and it got my expectations up very high for the rest of the feature, but the second half really didn't do it for me, and kind of really took away from the whole experience. I think my original comparison to the Star Wars Prequels took things a little far, but this film was a big disappointment to me after seeing the trailer, and I'm one of those people who have seen it and don't think Ridley has any idea of how everything fits together, but hey, we'll see in the next one I guess.

If I sound confused, it's because I am. I mean, I still can't decide if the film is terribly sloppy, with the second half invalidating the positives of the first one, or if I'm not giving it the credit it deserves. AHHHHH
So, Cabin Fever is by far the stupidest movie ever made. Anyone agree/disagree?
I recently saw the 1978 Halloween movie and i'm kinda disappointed. With all the hype i've read saying it's one of the scariest movies out there it really didn't seem all special. I'm not saying it's a bad film but i think it's a product of me expecting way to much that i ended up disappointing my self. Only towards the end it get interesting with actually mike myers screen time killing but the suspense that was building up to the end didn't hype me up.
So I got a nostalgia kick for Justice League, and found the best episode on youtube. I don't care who you are or your opinion of superheroes, if you've got 20 minutes, watch it.
@Movies: MIB series. The last one (3 or 4?) was great! Liked also the Avengers, and I'm gonna see tomorrow the new Spider Man.

@TV: I like Israeli ones. The best is called "Comedy Store" and there is a link to one of the skits of this series. Since it's in hebrew there is English translation, too.

So, just saw Dark Knight Rises.

Who knew they'd go back on their "No Robin!" promise? Oh, spoiler alert.
Been watching Hardcore Pawn a lot recently. One of the few reality shows I've given attention to. Honestly, I'm not really interested in the items that are pawned, but the irate and crazy customers and how the employees react to them. It was pretty fucking hilarious watching some guy getting carried out of the store by security by his arms and legs.
Yeah I've been watching a bit of TruTV lately, namely Hardcore Pawn and World's Dumbest. The latter in particular is one of the funniest shows I've seen in a while, especially because of the comedic talents the commentators give. Basically it's AFV only now it's funny.

For a while there it was my favorite show. It was so funny to watch for the customers (like the guy who pawned his leg), although the dramatic parts were terrible. Ashley is my least favorite tv character ever just because she is so ignorant to the business and is proud to be a bitch for whatever reason. I don't know anything about motorcycles so I won't buy this bike valued at $2000.
I remember liking the guy with the beard. He was always so chill and could break up any fight. I remember when he found a dead body in the trunk of a car and didn't even flinch when he brought it up. He just said it like it's normal, and the hilarious thing is it probably is.
ask me if i give a f*ck...
Been watching some Supernatural and been looking back on the Hunger Games. Scream isn't bad, nor is Friday the 13th. In fact, those may just be some of my favorite horror genre movies. TV? Ah...don't have cable for that. ^_^'
So I watched Wizards after a recommendation from CaptainPissweak, its an animated post-apocalyptic science/fantasy film (well it pretty much states that in the link) and there's not much of a summary I can give without spoiling a few things so I'll just say I highly recommend it if you really enjoy animated films. A few warnings though, the atmosphere does get a bit dark at times, it uses some footage of WW2 Nazi propaganda tapes and towards the end it gets pretty graphic and violent but all around its a great movie.

Another movie I watched recently is Amadeus which I saw for the first time a few years ago and decided to watch again since I really enjoyed it, I'd easily call it one of my favorite movies ever and recommend it if you like classical music.
Lately I've been on a Disney movie spree going through all those classics I have missed out on in my childhood due to a lack of interest in them, I just couldn't get into them for some reason.

I went through Aladdin, Hercules, Tarzan, Nightmare before Christmas and Mulan and so far I'm simply stunned at how excellent they actually are. To think that I could never establish any interest for these movies is disgraceful.

I still have the Lion King trilogy and the sequels to the Aladdin movie (also a trilogy set) before I hafta go out of my way and order another batch of movies. A-hyuck.
Woah!
So this is why you don't have anymore that anime-based layout? Because since you have that boogie avatar you stopped having them!

But really, Disney movies (at least, not most of the latest ones) are actually masterpieces that used to give kids (and sometimes also adults).
But Lion King and Aladdin sequels (and Disney sequels in general) are not better than their original movies, actually.

Eh, I dunno. Of the 60 or so movies that Disney has put out over the years in theaters (read: Pixar is not Disney and thus not included in this count) only about 20 of them are worth watching. Granted I've got to rewatch quite a few movies that I haven't seen since I was a kid, and there's a couple I haven't seen yet, Disney, while being an empire in the animated world, isn't perfect quality each time.

The Disney sequels are laughable and other than Lion King 1 1/2 (which gets bonus points for nostalgia regardless) are not worth seeing.

All that being said, I've decided to watch The Great Mouse Detective after hearing quite a few good things about it, particularly Vincent Price's role as the villain Ratigan.
