Super Mario World Central Idol 4 - Discussion and Rules (Round 3 has ended! Also: I am lazy, so effin lazy)

MusicOther Contest/Event

WELCOME TO SMWCI4!

Every summer since 2010, SMWCI has been held (and once some other time). Every year, the way the contest works changes. This year will be no different as we present a USERBASE VOTING SYSTEM! This time around, there will be 4 rounds lasting one week each. A 48 hour voting period will then be held where users vote on three entries they believe should go on to the next round. The users with the least votes are eliminated until we reach the number needed for the next round (with me breaking any ties). So in short, we'll start the following rounds with the following number of entrants.

Round 3: 2 entrants
Round 2: 4 entrants
Round 1: 8 entrants

Experiment: Unless there are a significant amount of entrants who do not wish for it, the winner of the previous round will decide upon the requirement for the round's port (unless it's something I/the entrants find to be a non-valid requirement). In the case of a tie, I will break the tie.

Rules:

-Port according to the round rules.
-Email me the .spc and .txt files. I will provide each contestant with my email address. (PM ME IF YOU'RE JOINING)
-Do not divulge to anybody the .spc or .txt file until the round is over.
-GL HF DD DS GG no RE UP UP DOWN DOWN LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT "B" "A" START!

ROUND 1 HAS NO REQUIREMENT, AND WILL BE DUE BY 6PM EDT (AKA SNN time.) ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 27TH!

Edit: I'm probably forgetting something, so please tell me if you notice anything missing from this post.

Masa edit:

Super Mario World Idol 4

Um, why do you have the other rounds listed backward? Also, does the submission for Round 1 have to be a port, or can it be a composition?

----------------

I'm working on a hack! Check it out here. Progress: 64/95 levels.
im gonna assume that you can do either, no requirements gives you a lot to work with, also i think it was listed backwards as his prediction to who wants to join by those times because of an oversight
Cool, I'm happy to see this finally taking off. I do hope a fair number of people enter like last time - don't be shy, guys!
im still debating on entering on this one, ive never had the time to stay fulltime in it so im worried it might happen again.
May the port be sampled?
Yeah, the first round has no requirements at all. That means it can be sampled/unsampled, a port, a composition, or whatever you want really.

What do you mean?

Also:

BIG FAT NOTE: YOUR SONGS MUST BE LOOPED!

ANOTHER BIG FAT NOTE: IN YOUR EMAIL, TELL ME WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT THE SONG IS IF IT IS A PORT! KTHXBAI!
R1 voting will begin in an hour or two
Atma, before you start the round. Check if people tagged their names in their spc. I kinda did that with the spc I sent you, so please check it and remove it if it's there.

Yea, Camerin and I are going and checking all the .spcs, hence the delay
The following 14 have sent in .spc files and the voting will commence.

edit: names have been removed, sorry.
Honestly, you shouldn't have even mentioned that. Given that information alone, I've managed to place almost all of those names to a port (and I can do the remaining ones by deduction). If others are able to do the same - and I'm sure some are - it's going to ruin the unbiased voting a bit.

I'd just leave the names out entirely until after the voting is done next time. Just my opinion though.
Hmm... I don't understand the least favorite voting, the first one it's the worst for me or the second favorite?

Well, you vote for six spc's there. The first one is the worst of all, and the last one is the "best" of the worst (Thus the sixth worst of all spc's). I didn't quite get that from the beginning either, so perhaps you guys could inform us a little about that, the next time?
I know this is a really dumb question, but... are we supposed to insert these into a ROM and set them as level music to listen to them, or is there another way?
I'm that guy you sometimes see on #smwc

SPC format is a music file that can be played in a music player like SPC700 Player (It's in the Tools Section)

The purpose of SPC files is so that you don't have to insert them into the rom.
I'm not really liking the way the voting works here (Yes, I'm late. Go see what I care about that). I mean, what's positive, what's negative? I mean, sure, you can say 'arrange the SPCS in best>worst', but atleast tell how you'd be handling the voting. This would also help the contestants themaelves so they know if they passed the round or not.
well round 1 voting is done: the formula was (14-(x-1)) where x was the rank you were given (example: 1st scores 14 points, 4th scores 11). Sorry about the confusion.

Anyways here are the scores

1st: Lui37 with Taking over the Halberd (188 out of 224)
2nd: CrispyYoshi with hoohoo (156 out of 224)
3rd: OGS93 with Beat them up! (152 out of 224)
4th: Masashi27 with Grape Garden (151 out of 224)
5th: Wa with Pain the Universe (144 out of 224)
6th: S.N.N. with Holy Land (133 out of 224)
7th: Iguy with MMVII Intro Stage (124 out of 224)
8th: Torchkas with Northern Kremisphere (123 out of 224)
9th: WC with Super Marisa World World 3 (117 out of 224)
10th: 757 (6646) with Theme of Gray (112 out of 224)
11th: Jimmy52905 with lolmexican (105 out of 224)
12th: MarioStarLuigi with Where Cacti Grow (89 out of 224)
13th: Nameless Protagonist with Gerudo Valley (59 out of 224)
14th: Rassuh with Treetop Rock (20 out of 224)

Lui37 has 15 hours to give me the round requirement for round 2. The top 8 will then port a song according that that requirement. It will be due before Wednesday, July 11th EDT (-5) That's roughly 8 days and 15 hours!

FOR ALL FUTURE ROUNDS, PLEASE PUT THE FULL NAME OF THE SONG IN THE ID666 TAGS ALONG WITH THE GAME IT COMES FROM OR PUT "COMPOSITION" IN THE GAME TITLE FIELD!
Oh wow, I actually did well? Anyway, congrats to everyone who participated, it's a shame to see that some of the better songs were voted down so low (Marisa World, Gray). And also congrats to Lui37 for first place!
