What-Not-to-Do Hack?

Has anyone made a joke hack about what not to put in your own hack? If not, would it be allowed as long as it's not submitted into the Hacks section?

Then again, we have Smallhacker's Portal thingy request...

I'm pretty sure several people have already made hacks like that. The most well-known one is probably Chaos CompleXX.

About your question, what would stop you from making a thread about your hack? As far as I know, there aren't any real restrictions to what kinds of hacks you're allowed to show.
Most attempted "joke hacks" are exactly this. The general consensus seems to be that intentionally bad hacks got old a long time ago. They're also rarely fun to play-- there's a reason why repeatedly making the player go through the same thing over and over, or including some random Kaizo trap or warp to level 0 that you'd have to know in advance to avoid, shouldn't be done.

While it is possible (debatably, some would disagree) to create a hack that breaks various standards while remaining fun to play, you really need to be careful to keep things interesting and not annoying, if you want a significant amount of people to think your hack is worth playing. At least from my own experience.

You wanna have fun with this?

Do everything wrong in the right way. Use cutoff, but in a way that makes sense. Fake difficulty that stays fun. Terrible graphics that serve a purpose by being terrible.
I quite like your joke hacks, Zeldara. I've finished ZGC dunno how many exits (because it reseted in the last level damn it), and some of your jokes were just epic win.

On-topic, this hack has a WNTD section in its end that looks a bit of a joke, and the whole hack got accepted as well. Perhaps because the purpose of this hack is not tell the hackers not just what to do, but also what to do. If you're going to do something like that, think about it.
It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?
FPI told me that the very first joke hack ever made was by Jacob (aka GoldenYoshi). Back when SMWCentral was much smaller, GoldenYoshi was doing a series called SMW+, and someone thought he wasn't putting much effort into it.

Angered by that particular user, Jacob released SMW-, which would show what a hack that had little effort would look like. SMW- would become the very first joke hack on SMWCentral.

That hack would later inspire Chaos CompleXX.

SMW- couldn't have been on SMWCentral before inspiring Chaos CompleXX, because Chaos CompleXX was released in 2003, long before SMWCentral existed.

(As for people losing their save data at the end of ZGC: I've heard of that happening... It never happened to me, or else I would have included a more specific warning to make a savestate or backup your save data when warned about the game "crashing spectacularly". Has it occurred to anyone using an emulator other than ZSNES? I never bothered testing ZGC demo 147 in ZSNES.)

Just re-checked the PM he sent me. I didn't know that SMWC didn't exist then, but I do know that there was a smaller hacking community around during that time.

SMW- would have been released to that community, as was Chaos CompleXX. Now I don't think that it was ever released to SMWCentral.

The "What Not To Do" section of Tails101's hack?

also I've been curious for quite a while, why is Chaos CompleXX accepted for the hacks area? Doesn't it kind of break a bunch of the criteria and everything?

I mean it's a fun game and everything but that question has been in my mind for quite a while now~
I remember that YCZ one time said it's because it was uploaded in a long time ago, before the no joke hacks rule.

...And I'll complete this affirmation saying it's a pretty much famous hack, and removing it wouldn't be like removing any joke hack with stacked munchers, glitches and all.

As far as I know, this site has a policy of not removing any hacks that have been accepted into the hacks section unless it's by the author's request. (However, that standard seems to be inconsistently enforced; I know of at least one counterexample.)

Also, I don't think it's as much a no joke hacks rule as strict graphical standards for acceptance... though I've never quite understood the hack moderation standards anyway (in particular, why the graphical standards seem rather strict, but plenty of the hacks that make it past moderation are severely lacking in level design, when level design is supposed to be the most important part of a hack).

I don't think ridding the level of all cutoff, no matter how small or unnoticeable, should ever supersede level design.

They're not mutually exclusive, so...
Well...if you're talking about a joke hack, like Chaos CompleXX, then I don't really see the point anymore.

I mean, yes they were funny when they first started, but some people seem to be missing the point nowadays. No matter what, even if its intentionally bad, your joke hack is supposed to be FUN.
I made a joke hack once but i submited it in the hacks selection.=(
I personally agree if it is a sort of "Tutorial, How to NOT make a bad hack" style hack, as long as it's fun and explains what and why (Ex. Message boxes). It can be fun and STILL show what not to do! (Ex. It could explain bad palettes where say grass is yellow and dirt is red while the background is a bright blue, but it still is a good level design)
So remember kids! If you ever get caught having tosave a princess from a foreign land after getting dragged down a drain pipe, jumping while spinning in a circle can help you greatly by allowing you to jump on spinning saw blades, ghosts, and allow you to control your jump better!
