New Super Mario Bros. SNES [New screenshots!]

I really don't know why I haven't posted anything here for so long... I'm a very lazy person xD

Well, first, I want to say that i've decided that the hack's name is going to be New Super Mario Bros. SNES, as it's obvious that this hack has a very big inspiration on NSMB series, so I think this name could fit...

Now, here are some screenshots and a video, I'm surprised with myself for having just this to show since I didn't update this for a month :X

*video*

Screenshots:

(ignore the spinning log gfx, I've already drawn a new one.)

By the way, I've been trying to draw sprites lately (that giant thwomp in the last screenshot was also drawn by me), so I would like to know how do these pare-beetles look:
Holy crap, AWESOME!

Wow, I must say, this is really great stuff right here. Everything you had before was just excellent, but now it is even better! Some of the GFX I have seen, I though was impossible in a 16 bit game. Are you using two whole pallete rows for these new GFX now?
Your layout has been removed.

Oh my, that is looking so professional! Really, you've turned this into a completely new game, and it's just looking so awesome! You certainly have the potential to make one splendid hack, here. I mean, just look at how wonderful everything is looking! Now, I'm sure the design will also be sweet, so I don't have any complaints.

And really dude, those para-beetle graphics... are just lovely! I found myself looking for good graphics for a giant para-beetle (read: I can't make some myself, and thus I just decided to enlarge them, and that doesn't look too good, haha), you've certainly made some amazing ones there! You're such a great drawer. :O
While I have to say that para-beetles don't have dots, they still look awesome.
This is the best snes game Ive ever seen.(Anyone still calling it a hack is crazy with that logic smw is just a hack of smb3.)

Thats not a dot on the parabeetle its a reflection.
I really appreciate your graphics design! Ok, it's too 3D-ish, and I don't like it at all. But since nothing is gonna clash, it's alright.

Nice work! Keep it up!
It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?
Only thing I can see that's clashing is:
Mario's GFX.
Maybe ripping NSMB mario GFX will work.
For the the clashing graphics is the Mario character but overall this looks good so far...

Good job.
This is looking pretty nice, and fun to play. Your GFX are pretty nice too, and kind of looks like NSMB's. The only GFX that looks kinda clashing/bad to me is that mushrooms FG, that, for me, don't look good at all.
Note to self: This hacker is a english version of Carol (Super Kitiku Mario creator).
I've seen the new video, It seems just about everything is hacked.
Extended walking animations for Koopas,
Mario being a 32X32 sprite when he has a mushroom,
Star Coins with animations + exact size in NSMB,
Added sound effects for sliding down hills and stuff,
quicker level start / end fading effect.

Now MY question is: Will this hack make use of the Super FX or Super FX 2 co-processor chips?
A NSMB-like game on SNES emulators would really need those special effects! I Would love it! :D
Sometimes, I like to hack SMW. This is rare though, but I always try something new.

Is not that hard, maybe he just added some opcodes and values here or there in Koopa's disassembly...

Easy, just change to 00 at addresses x02146 and x0212A.

He used Ladida's 32x32 Character Tilemap Kit. A bit hard to use, but still very usefull.

The use of SuperFX in SMW engine still undeveloped, or it's in a very WIP.

*ahem*

Whoa. Still impressed with everything, I'm anxious to see a full version of this!
Also, I have a question. You've used Layer 2 in the video's level?
Btw - I coded the NSMBW starcoin sprite for him ;D

I think these Koopas are exanimated and the SFXes are added with patches or Hex Edits. ^^

Awesome work Nep ^^

Absolutely gorgeous Nep-enut! Your Para-Beetles are a LOT better than mine. I still think that mario walks oddly, but that's a minor issue.

Still, Your graphic skills are hardly unmatched. Awesome work.

I should have something witty to put here (even if it's just to update dated info), shouldn't I?

Do you realize just how irritating your constant nitpicking on every single thing others say has grown to be?

On topic, though, this is definitely some very impressive content you have been cooking up, Nep-Enut. Graphically speaking, this hack is shaping up quite superbly, even more intensely after the large graphical revamp you have provided - the new graphics really are delicious to look at, and those bright and cheery HDMA gradients complement the whole graphical aura really well. People definitely are not lying when they say your graphics don't look 16-bit, because they surely don't. They could easily pass by real NSMB graphics, which you should definitely take as a hell of a compliment.

Level design looks quite solid, too, judging by this last video you provided. I really dig the big shell structures. Did they appear in any of the NSMB games? Asking this because you are clearly taking the NSMB series as a huge inspiration resource for this hack, and I don't quite recall seeing them in any of two already-released games (though I didn't have the chance to play through NSMBWii all that much).

Regardless, this hack is looking brilliant so far, and I really hope to see more occasional updates on it. Keep up the excellent work.

Overexaggerate much? SMB3 and SMW are drastically different from aesthetics to limitations (SMB3 was originally an NES game, after all.) to gameplay. To say that one is a hack of another is a very dumb claim to make, even in a joking context. If you wish to continue that sub-discussion of personal matters, PM me.

------

Could've swore I commented on the level earlier though- I guess not.

The level itself is one of your weaker outings- far, far too many enemies can be easily circumvented by ignoring them or sliding. There are a few bright spots such as with most of the Boomerang Bros, but for the most part everything else is pretty underwhelming.

The big shells appeared in World 5-1 of NSMBWii. :)
It's interesting how they have been incorporated into this hack.
Well, everything's looking great besides this little nitpick:
I can't help noticing the palm trees, they don't look right in the new style. They look too much like the NSMB ones. Just a small edit could fix it.
Awsome work.
