Super Mario Bros. A Nightmare Tale - NEW Screenshots!

Well, this is my very first "Alone" work in this C3, today I'll show some screenshots and some stuff from my upcoming hack: Super Mario Bros. A Nightmare Tale!

Stuff:
- The use of VWF sprite and patch to create custom cutscenes also and for using with NPCs dialogues, shops and etc.
- An inventory system, along with pause menu.
- New powerups.
- A redone physics engine, this means new stuff for (SPOILER).
- Scrolling HDMA.
- Custom SFX, global changes and much more!

The story:

One day, Mario and his friends are going to have a Picnic near Peach's Castle, then suddenly, the sky becomes dark and Kamek suddenly appears too, casting a powerful spell that makes everyone sleepy FOREVER!

Bowser takes advantage of this and creates a clone using the Shadow Star, thus taking over Subcon Kingdom, if Mario doesn't rescue the poor Subcon fairies, Dark Shadow will seize the island and thus the Dream World, so no one can DREAM EVER AGAIN!

Also, by controlling Dream World, Dark Shadow can control any soul, thus being extremely powerful, will Mario save this island and wake up to save both kingdoms or Mario will fail and the world is finally doomed?

(Here's a tip: There's 4 endings in total and this hack is part one of the 2 part hack, like Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles.)

Well, here are some screenshots:

The new, revamped title screen.

This is the new, redone OW that I was working on, unlike the normal hacks, this hack DOESN'T have a normal Main OW, instead, there's minor "submaps".

The rain uses Cluster Sprite, also, I've disabled Layer 3 for better visibility.

One of levels that uses the Windowing, it's the Phanto's room.

Dark Shadow's OW also uses Windowing, like SMB3.

The airship stage, normal...

This is one of the secret levels, if you're too good, you can play this level...

This is the secret world, like NSMB, if you find all secrets, you can play this extra world which is very difficult and doesn't have ANY midpoint.

This is the character selection screen, as you can see there's a orb above the statues head, you must collect these orbs to play with a different character, they're WELL hidden, also, you must know about this room, it's very important for your quest, as every character will have a different physics.

NEW

Here's more desert area, for sure, it's a bit similar of ones in SMB3 and NSMB.

One of the ending screens, you must find out, though, hee hee hee...

OWN3D!

Considering I'm fixing some things, some of these levels aren't available yet but they'll be disponible in the next demo version (or the final version).

Anyway, I hope you like this thread and don't forget to comment. ^^

Enjoy!
Holy crap, DiscoMan, this looks amazing! This has to be one of the most unique SMW hacks I've seen. Everything just looks really nice so far! Keep up the great work! #w{=D}Free counters!
DiscoMan, I thought the paper overworld of Drama Mistery was awesome and unique, but the graphics you used there are 100% awesome!!

That was a great job.
Thank you! ^^

Well, my goal here is to push SMW hacking into a new level, by using new effects, designing a new type of OW or even designing custom ASM, so the player would feel a new kind of gameplay experience, it's not too awkward, as this new gameplay still maintains the SMAS gameplay style.
Everything looks really nice, especially that first grassland screenshot (the one with the palm tree), I love the darkness effect! I also really like the darkness in some screenshots, like Phanto's room and one of the submaps (windowing, was it called?).

A fine job, keep it up!

Thanks! #w{=D}

Yes, the effect is called HDMA Windowing, with this technique, I can draw any shape in the screen (as for my hack, the spotlight effect) and use them as they're needed.

Also, the first level is a ocean/island level. #w{=D}
Great job, DiscoMan!
A long time since I do not see a hack that level. I'm waiting for final release. But I think the Mario's palette is too strange, but anyway, awesome hack!

Oh, I forgot mention, Mario's palette is a bit strange because Mario's GFX is still a prototype, thanks for the reminder. It'll be "fixed" in version 1.2
I heard you talking about this kind of OW alot of times, but now that I saw that, I'd say I don't like it so much. The tiles are much 3D-ish and they clash with the sprites and the border, but not with the levels at all.

But I like your unique level style, specially the ASM and the graphic style you choose (yes, I already played this hack a bit). Great job! #w{=3}
It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?
Well, it's looks a bit strange because it's a new way I'm using to design custom OW, instead of the generic SMW (or somewhat similar) OW tiles.

The goal here is to customize every aspect of this SMW hack, it's kind of weird but I assure you it's very good too aside from being unique.

By the way, New Screenshot! but it's a SPOILED one, hee hee hee...
Lemme guess: those are Luigi, Wario, Waluigi and Toad, right? It's kinda hard to make them out, hehe.

And, about the map screen: Once you're done with everything, you should probably change the border and Map Mario's graphics so that nothing clashes with each other. But you probably already knew that #w{=9}

Yeah, I'll change the OW border in the next demo or the final version if my Racing Stripe works here, my computer is a bit strange nowadays.

Anyway, yeah, the characters are Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi and Toad and as mentioned above, they all have different physics, so you can explore differents ways to play a level but some of them have different abilities, so take advantage of that! ^^
DiscoMan, two Words: AWESOME HACK!

The HDMA, effects, the Map, Level Desing and Graphics is Good, Nice Job.
Wow. These are truly impressive DiscoMan. The hack looks like its going to be beyond awesome and those screenshots especially the windowing effect are impressive. Can't wait 'til this hack is done as I'll be one of the first to comment on it.

Feel free to return the favor and let me know what you think of my submission Link

How far is it from finishing this masterpiece?I can't wait anymore!

Seryously you are a master!!
Thank you, guys! ^^

As for you, dahnamics, sure I'l comment your submission.^^
As for you, xImseiken3, I'm working on some things to make these gimmicks working, for bug fixing and polish existent features.

If everything is okay, maybe the demo 1.2 will be released, or even the final version if everything is okay.
Very nice Gimmick, Disco. It's really going to make the game even more funny.
Well Done!
Oh wow, this looks very awesome. Graphics are nice, HDMA effects are nice. I like how you can unlock characters. I hope there will be hints for the location of those orbs, though.

This hack definitely goes on my list of "waiting for it to get released".
My blog. I could post stuff now and then

My Assembly for the SNES tutorial (it's actually finished now!)
Thanks Ersanio, now...

NEW SCREENSHOTS!
Everyone before me pretty much said what I was going to say. Awesome everything. The HDMA windowing effects and different characters are what I like the most so far in this hack. Cool GFX as well.

Also Boss Bass OP.

You hear dice being thrown...
My SMW ROMhack: Super Market Roll Drums is active once again!
