How to use Addmusic 4.05

supernova38: Your ROM's name must be without any spaces in it. If it still doesn't work, try redownloading HuFlungDu's AddMusic 4.05.

Shacker9227: Are you sure you copied CMD.exe to the folder you have AddMusic.exe in? Try running it there if you didn't.

epicYoshi64: It means that after you used the normal
Code
AddMusic.exe RomName.smc

you have to use
Code
AddMusic.exe Romname.smc -se

to insert the sound-effects and more.bin.
This is crucial if you want to insert songs from here because of the Level- and Overworld-header

The first part of this quote is what helped me make me music insertion successful. But now my hack crashes at "Mario Start!" and I'm trying to use the RomClean.exe program but it says that the rom is too big. What should the size of the rom be in order to clean it with RomClean.exe? And cmd.exe is in the same folder as AddMusic.

No matter what I try, I CANNOT get Addmusic to work. It just won't work, period. I'v followed the steps at the beginning of this thread and tried at least 12 different songs, and I'v done it perfectly, but no matter what the game freezes at the "mario start" title.

I don't freaking understand how everyone has such success with this stuff while I'm just dumbfounded.

Excuse my language.. I'm just mad.

When I try to play a level after using this tool, the screen fades to black after leaving the level or dying.

Here's what I did:

1. I inserted the song successfully.
2. I also typed in "Addmusic.exe mario.smc (It's the name of my rom) -se immediately right after.
3. When I open up the level, the song is available in the Music Bypass list.
4. After applying it, when I play the level that problem stated above happens.

-- This rom has no other modifications done to it.
-- I have already expanded my rom to 2MB before doing this.
-- I am testing with Zsnes 1.51
-- I also tried using Bsnes but the same problem occurs.

What could be the problem here?
The song that I wanted to insert is called 3 Tut.exe in "My Files"
MV:
Cutscenes are being worked on
1-1 to 1-3 FG/BG done,
1-4 FG is done, now for BG.
5-1 BG is done oddly early

???:
1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 2-1, 2-2 FG done
1-1 BG done

Making my own FG/BG takes a lot longer than I thought.
It's most likely because channel #0 consists of nothing.

After inserting the Super Bonk Twilight Zone+its sample, it works, but there seems to be a glitch. Basically if I enter a level on the main map, die or beat the level and go back to the level in the submap with the Super Bonk theme, the song seems to botch itself. This seems to be a problem with some DKC2 ports as well.
Okay, I thought I had to have a header after reading a tutorial which is why #0 was empty. Thanks for telling me that.

It inserted successfully but it sounds horrible so there's a lot of work to be done.

Here's what happened to me:

After completing all previous steps, I opened cmd.exe and typed in the following:
Code
addmusic.exe (NEW Super Mario World).smc -se

And after pressing ENTER, it read:
Code
Unofficial AddMusic v4.04
usage : [AddMusic.exe] [ROM.smc] (option)
option
-se : insert sound effect
-i [file).ini

So I assume that's progress, but then I typed:
Code
addmusic.exe (NEW Super Mario World).smc

And this happened:
Code
Invalid option

I'm 150% sure I followed all the steps correctly. I know about the whole "make sure your ROM name has no spaces" and everything, but when I renamed the ROM without spaces:
Code
Couldn't open the ROM file

Before renaming the file itself, I even tried typing the
Code
addmusic.exe (NEW Super Mario World).smc -se

part with spaces (which still worked), then
Code
addmusic.exe (NEWSuperMarioWorld).smc

without spaces, and then it still couldn't open the ROM.
It might have something to do with those parentheses. Also make it the exact name of your ROM no matter what.
I think a post layout goes here somewhere...
What I like to do is temporarily change the name of the ROM to 'SMW' or something like that.
This way, all I have to do is to type "addmusic.exe smw.smc", and it inserts the music.
You can rename the ROM when you're done.
Check out my music!
I made myself a .bat file with all the right commands inserted. The only thing I have to do is place the SMW rom into the same folder and rename it to "rom.smc", then double click the .bat and it'll work...

And I learned this with a tutorial for addmusic which never ever states that I have to use the "-se" command. It took hours for me to figure that out and simply because the author wasn't explaining this clearly. There are loads of old and uncomplete-but-pretend-to-be-accurate-tutorials in the tutorial section. Like noone can write a tutorial easy to understand for everyone. That's so frustrating for anyone who wishes to learn more than using Lunar Magic, creating levels and linking pipes and exits together.

Then again...
Can anyone help my with my problem? I'm currently porting a song but something is wrong with it. You can take a look at the txt file here:

I know I can make it a lot smaller with using loops, but for editing I prefer the bigger version, it's easier to fix errors this way. I got 2 problems (addmusic 4.05 is not giving me any errors when inserting):

1. For whatever reason the distortion guitar (channel #1) is not playing at all.
2. The piano (channel #0) "releases" (if you call it so) it sound too quick making it sound weird.

For 2 I tried to use the ASDR command, but since the tutorial from iceman is completely useless I didn't get this to work. Anything else seems to work fine #w{=)}
For #0, replace all the instances of 'r' with '^' and that should solve your problem.

I have no idea what's up with the dist. guitar though.

Have you tried moving the 'v' command after the rest? Stuff like that usually works for me.
Check out my music!
marioVSshadow:
Thank you, that worked very well. #w{=P}

Moose:
Thanks, but everything works fine now. Never had an issue with the "v" command.

Oh and I fixed the problem with the distortion guitar myself. I was so stupid... When I inserted my own samples with sample tool I removed the guitar sample by accident to make room for the other samples. Luckily there is still enough space left to put that guitar one back in.
Dr.Kirby said WHAT?Yeah, I'm trying to find Addmusics that don't turn my games into water worlds... Obviously it don't work for me.

IDK why you insist on keeping copies of cmd all over the place...
Right click, new, shortcut, type cmd, enter, and make the name anything you want. Then right click the new shortcut, properties, in the start in box, type --> %CD% <--, and press OK. That works the same, uses the newest version of cmd on whatever system it runs on, it's harder to be infected by virus (:P), and much much much less disk-space-devouring.
Your layout has been removed.
Or you can simply drag the ROM over Addmusic.exe

For whatever reason, I couldn't get it to work whenever I tried to use Addmusic. Thanks to this guide, I finally can insert music! Thanks, Slash Man.
