What are your thoughts on Dubstep?

Personally, I can't stand it. To me, it sounds like it may be the worst thing that ever happened to music.

It all started when a good friend of mine played some Skrillex. I laughed my ass off, and said, "I can do that! Listen! PTTTTTTH SKDFU WOPWOPWOPWOWPWPWOWP PLIIIIIIIIIIIIIII--- DFFFFFF PTTTTTTH SKDFU WOPWOPWOPWOWPWPWOWP PLIIIIIIIIIIIIIII--- DFFFFFF..." so on and so forth. He seemed dissapointed at my response, but I figured there was better Dubstep out there, after all, an entire genre can't be a total waste. So, I set off on my search, and found nothing.

Later, that friend introduced me to Burial, which, I will admit, is a lot better than all the other crap, but it still annoys me. However, later in the song he introduced me to, I started getting a migraine.
At that point, I figured, yeah. I'm okay with a little bad music. However, I fucking hate listening to it, and having a headache, too.

I'll stick with my symphony orchestra.

What are your thoughts/opinions on the genre?
Anything can be done well.
I'm a total slave for it, barely listen to anything else these days..
Your layout has been removed.
It better than the Club Music from Crappy Artist like Drake, Nicki Minaj & Justin Beiber..
I won't say Hip Hop because it died long ago...and people still want to bring it up; But its only Rap nowadays..

But Dubstep, meh it's all right....
Its the kind of music you can just freestyle in Dancing
I don't listen to it very often
If you're talking about REAL dubstep (such as Skream, Burial, Kode9, ect...) then yes, I do like it.

If you're talking about the other type of dubstep (often referred to as brostep) then no, I can't say that I do like that type of dubstep. When making it, people seem to care less about making an actual good melodies and instead care about making "DA FILTHIEST DROP!!1!". Of course there still are some pretty good new dubstep songs (in fact, I had kind of enjoyed Skrillex's album, My Name is Skrillex).
I rarely listen to Dubstep music, but some of it is good. If I recall correctly, Chase & Status makes Dubstep music too. I like some of their songs, such as Hurt You. Then again, that song may not actually be Dubstep.

As I said, though, I don't really listen that much to Dubstep. People say Skrillex is the bomb. I find his music mediocre at best.

e: Note that I often tend to confuse Dubstep and Drum and bass. They're not the same, I know that, but seperating the two seems difficult for me. Similarly: Pendulum - Slam. Many people assume this is Dubstep but it's actually not.
--------> Don't follow "Find Roy's Dignity", my hack. Because it's pretty outdated. <--------
All the dubstep on my playlist is pony, so I apologize in advance.

(Actually I'm not sorry at all)

So yeah, some is good. The drop has to actually work, though; too many just jam beats into my skull and expect it to sound good.
Judging dubstep by Skrillex is like judging fantasy books by reading something written by a toddler (yes I'm comparing Skrillex to a toddler but my point is that you can't judge a "genre"). There's "good" dubstep and there is "bad" dubstep. It's all just people's opinions. If you don't happen to like music that can be classified as dubstep, then you don't have to listen to it :)

I personally try to not judge music by the genre, simply because it makes no sense to me. I try to judge individual tracks. If I happen to like something I'm listening to, it'll most likely end up in one of my playlists. If I don't like it, then I'll just skip to another song. Judging a genre is unfair. Judging an artist is unfair. Even judging an album can be unfair. Sometimes it's just easier to do so. It makes creating playlists and finding music you like much easier. But there's no reason to say "all dubstep is bad".

Music, like all forms of art, can't be "objectively good". There's people that claim the opposite but I'd like to say that they most likely don't understand "art".

Eh... I'll accept someone saying they dislike a genre of music, and I wouldn't think them unreasonable. What they probably mean is some basic tenant of that genre is a quality they personally do not like in their music. Sure, I'd be willing to bet there's at least 1 song of that genre in existence they would tolerate or even enjoy, but it's not a horrible inductive argument to say they probably wouldn't like any random song.

And yes, saying "all music in this genre is bad" is a silly statement, but only because of the "all" part. I doubt they've heard every song in existence.

Re: "Objectively good." While quality isn't objective, there are objective aspects to every form of art. To give a quality rating, you have to specify what objective thing you're rating it on. For music, it might be a technical aspect: Maybe it's bad at staying in key, or is repetitive, or whatever. That stuff is not subjective; that stuff can be proven. Subjectivity comes in whether these things are actually a problem or not: one listener honestly might not care whether or not it's in key, so that criticism is meaningless to them.

So yeah. We can objectively rate things, but the relevance of the qualities we're rating them on is the subjective part.
I like dubstep quite a lot actually; though I think there's quite a few that sound real bad. Sometimes when I go to my friends house; we listen to nothing but dubstep. =P

It's an interesting genre and there's a few good songs there. I wouldn't call myself a fan but there are times when I'll sit down and listen to a little bit.

I don't really care much for dubstep, though I have listened to quite a few "Skrillex Tribute" YTPMVs.
I listen to a little bit of Skrillex but usually I only listen to Dubstep when Asking Alexandria does it.
As a huge fan of electronic music I say I like Dubstep. I produce music and this stuff takes a long time and hard work to do. Which is contrary to what a lot of people think about electronic music. I'm a casual Dubstep listener though. I like most of it but I barely have any Dubstep producers on my iPod. In short: It's cool but not my favorite.

In my opinion...genres like Progressive House and Trance should be where Dubstep is today.
The big problem with dubstep for me is that it's all clumped together into the one category of dubstep. Most genres have different sub-genres for distinct sounds connected, like progressive and speed metal.
This makes finding dubstep I would probably like harder as this is the only song I really recall liking but I haven't been able to find much like it, despite not looking all that hard.
In conclusion, like a song, but haven't heard nearly enough to form a full opinion (if I based the genre on Skrillex I wouldn't have even bothered replying.)
ask me if i give a f*ck...
I'm pretty much in the "not hating the entire genre, but rather, hating certain artists" category. I've found a few dubstep songs I've enjoyed, though they're usually fan works not by anyone overly "famous".

Also, this.
TBH if we're talking about "brostep" aka popular dubstep (SKRILLUX ETC WUB WUB), i hate it and i can't stand it.

Dubstep as a whole, i don't have a full opinion on it yet. I'd need to give the "good" dubstep artists a try.
i just lurk sometimes
Is it anything like the Sonic Rush soundtrack?

If the quieter parts of the song are well done, I don't mind dubstep or similar genres. The problem is that "brostep" tends to just focus on the drop and random voice samples, so it just sounds noisy and overdone. I do try to give the genre as a whole a fair chance, especially when I find the rare Touhou dubstep arrange. I like electronic stuff in general, so it's not really all that far off from what I already listen to most of the time.
