13B: awakening (Phase 1: Happiness) - 2dareduck/Rameau's Nephew

Complete

Owner: 2dareduck/Rameau's Nephew

World: 10 (Finale)
Theme: Happiness

This is the finale for SMWCP2, make sure to make this a fairly difficult level that correlates in difficulty with that of other levels in World 10. Phase 1 is all about the theme of happiness. Though the initial idea is to have Mario feel a "what if" scenario of getting a huge cash of money and many other enemies attacking him for his treasure, you can extend this idea or change the idea around a bit, so long as the theme is portrayed and there's a consequence to that.

ASM - PM me if you need Blocks/Sprites for this area.
Music Choice - Any fitting song or one that you can propose.

P.S. NO KAIZO WHATSOEVER.

EDIT: Don't make this level any longer than 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 minutes long.

I can't find any mention of this in the stickies. Where was this decided?

(I can't say I disagree with it, but it feels like you're ... jumping the gun, or whatever.)

It's about time we started already, so I don't see why not.

Wow, didn't see this.

Check page 11 and 12 for discussion about this.

And an okay from SNN.

Most of the ideas were mentioned in the thread for World 9's Boss (page 10 I believe).
One comment though--if we're going to have five different sections and a boss here, these sections should be short. We don't after all, want another repeat of the Void in the original SMWCP, where things just dragged on forever. Plus it just generally fits in better with the idea of a level which is supposed to be ever-changing.

Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me. This level in total should be no longer than 7 minutes long since it is the finale + a 2-minute boss.

I will update all of the threads with that information.
A suggestion:

Use sprite C1, the flying grey turnblock (from that one Forest of Illusion level).

It's one of the most underused sprites ever, and I can see how coins can be integrated here.

Also, is there any sprites that steals money?

Or we could have levelasm of some sort that makes all enemies take money from you instead of hurting mario.

And when Mario loses money, he dies...out of bankruptcy?
As I've said elsewhere, I really don't like the whole coin idea, as it really strikes a bad way to represent the emotion of happiness (after all, as the old cliché goes, that's one thing money can't buy you), especially as Mario seems to get nothing but grief as a result. I instead think we should go for a a more upbeat party-like atmosphere in this section (which also fits with some ideas about the basic structure and story of this stage I proposed in the General Discussion thread for this level) which rather more genuinely fits in with this emotion, and also leads better into part 2, where we let things really hang out by ignoring the rules entirely.

Yeah, okay. I can see that. I'll make note of that for whoever gets this level. They don't have to necessarily follow the example that I gave just that they follow that particular emotion.
Something like Euphoric Emminence...?

It's a pretty happy place =D
Something like that, but maybe a little more celebratory and rowdy in mood, representing a) the inhabitants glee at having thrown off their Norveg-based shackles, and b) to illustrate the idea of trying to make a great big fuss in an attempt to rouse the already stirring Dreamer. Or at least that's my take.
How about a throwback to the celebration after the SMWCP?

Like, Peach's birthday!

The Happiness Phase is a remembrance of the happy time.

I don't know.
Remember, this is the abstract/dreamlike world, and it gets increasingly such as the world progresses. It's probably not in our best interest to make these sections too much of a concrete representation of something so much a depiction of a mood in a somewhat fundamental form. That's more how dreams work, anyway, contrary to popular depictions of theme. That's not to say there can't be hints of things from Mario's experience, but they should be depicted in the style of free-flowing particle accelerator of impressions that is the unconscious mind.
You know what I find fun in SMW?

Sliding down hills and stuff.

I don't know - just an idea.
I'd like to give this little level section a try.

Using lots of yellow, orange and their complementary colors should send a vibe of happiness.
Sure, 2dareduck. I'll let you have this one. :)
While I admittedly can't do all too much in terms of active designing until I return from my trip (on the 29th), I wouldn't all so terribly mind playing a role in helping form this section, as I think this is probably the section I presently have the most coherent idea for (as witnessed by my assorted comments here and in the general thread). Any chance I might fill our other slot, then?
Sure I'll add you RN. :)
