SMWCentral Santa Patches (Second batch!)

- If you're going to use ExGFX, please use graphics in the general style of SMAS (black outlines, bright colors, etc.).

- Generic enemies and the standard desert enemies are great!

- If you're feeling adventurous, feel free to put in a couple unusual or underused enemies. One example (don't use this, necessarily) might be to have some Thwomps pounding around in the desert. All I ask is that the weirdo sprites are nothing TOO exotic for a normal Mario game (so please no Metroids or DKC sprites, for example).

Thanks a bunch and Merry Christmas!

Well...

Level 003 (ISLAND LABYRINTH)

Based on the above, I'm thinking that one of two things might have happened:

1. Camoslash accidentally linked to an IPS of his own hack. Evidence for this would be the fact that the IPS contains multiple edited levels and that it is in no way similar to what I requested.

2. My request could not be completed for whatever reason so Camoslash just submitted A level for me.

If the first thing is the case, then I would love to see what was actually made based on my request.

If the second thing is the case, I really can't honestly give this a positive review, as it seems to be nowhere near an attempt at fulfilling what I had requested.

As far as levels go in general, though, it's actually not that bad of a level and does make fairly good use of an interesting gimmick (spin-jump emphasis).

If I moderated your hack, there was apparently a 90 percent chance it was rejected.
Oh god whoops how did that happen =| Oh no this is horrible! Oh phew... for a second I thought I deleted it... okay I still have it, here is a download of it =)

Oh man, I almost started raging at myself lol... anyway the level is 25, enjoy =) There should be a door in Yoshi' House that leads to it that was used for testing purposes, but you can go there if you do not want to have to move it around. Anyway enjoy =)

E: Also that was the third level you saw I ever made haha, so it is pretty unfair and noobish hahaha, but the ACTUAL (still cannot believe I submitted the wrong IPS heh...) is a ton better than that Island Labyrinth =D

E2: Forgot to add something... *MEGA FACEPALM for me*

Awesome. Great to hear -- I can't wait to see this one! Thanks!

One little thing, though -- the new IPS you linked gives me a glitched ROM when I patch it to a clean ROM. If it's not too much trouble, would you mind double-checking your IPS?

Thanks a bunch and hope your New Year is starting off well!

Alright I will download a new ROM from another site besides the one I usually download from, and then create a patch, because I have mini edits on some ROMs, and I forget which ones I do it to, and I cannot find my Clean ROM folder lol... so yeah I will do that.

And Thanks, hope you have a great year too! I will edit this in probably 5 minutes with a new link.

E: Here it is! Hopefully I didn't screw up this time haha

To mariocool1999:

A pretty good level. Fulfilled the correct idea this time (: P) which was pulled off rather nicely. I probably should've been a bit specific but oh well. It was really short but I guess it's reasonable. It had suiting graphics so yay. Level design was decent, no cutoff or stacked munchers or whatever but areas really lacked decorations. Other than that level was pretty fun.

My score: 6.8/10

Badge? Yes.

Go nuts
I think that xlk deserves a badge for the level he made. My request was a level with lots of line guides, and something scary to boot such as lava or boss bass. Well, the level did focus a lot on line guides with on and off switches. Depending on the path you take, you could end up finding all the dragon coins, or, you could be shamelessly dumped into a pool of lava.

The way the line guides are ExAnimated is kind of interesting. Not only did it add a cool aesthetic, but it provided a couple of fake-out moments, such as the line break between the first set of saws and the sudden turns near the set of two saws + Fuzzy towards in the last half of the level. Mushrooms were all hidden and pop up in random but convenient places, but you have to be very quick to catch them. These things totally threw me off guard and took a little while to get used to, which is what I was hoping to experience.

It becomes tense but reasonable trying to avoid all those saws towards the last leg of the line guide, and the final part will bite you in the rear if you're going for all the dragon coins because it's not easy to make the last jump from down low if you lose too much momentum, so I would say that even though the level is remarkably short, it does present a real difficulty curve apart from its frantic surprises.

Now, the only thing I felt could be improved was at the very end, when you had all those platforms on line guides that fall directly into the lava. Other than the two dragon coins, there wasn't much to them, and there are some viable, fitting obstacles that would work out, like saws jumping between lines that are kept distant from the platforms, or even flying Koopas. All in all, it didn't detract terribly from the level and fit in with the theme, and it did provide a sense of urgency to hurry.

Rating: 7/10

and thanks

Just look above you...
If it's something that can be stopped, then just try to stop it!

Wow, really glad you liked it!Generally, I hate lineguides for being so glitchy, so thats why it was so short. As for the last part, I tried putting saws, but they made it to hard, or to easy(spinjumping on them shortened jumps and allowed to slowly gain speed), and koopas would sometimes not apear. Also, the last dragoncoin, youre suposed to go down, and jump back, as the platforms are lower and not as dificult to get to.
Your layout has been removed.
To Lui37, I REALLY enjoyed what you did with my idea. If I'm honest, I was a little worried that it wouldn't have been done quite how I'd liked or it would have been handled poorly, but what you produced was everything I was hoping for - and more besides! It's clear you put in a ton of effort to get across my gradual colour-filling idea to work, and I'm so very pleased with the final product! The level design was very nicely done, and I liked how you expanded on the idea and made it possible to flip switches back to change the level design further, and the effort you made by having rooms for many of the different colour combinations was unexpected, but I'm very pleased you did it!

If I was to offer any criticism, it would merely be on what's not there, instead of what is there, such as the possibility of expanding the level to a whole different room entirely (but within the time frame of this contest that would have probably been insane for you), and it would have been nice to see the background gradually change along with the foreground, but that's really a minor point.

Honestly, I have no qualms with what has been produced, and before I start repeating myself an awful lot I'll finish by saying a big thank you and a happy new year, you easily deserve a medal for this!

Score: 9.5/10

Not blue.
For the x-crab's castle by Diddykaizo i can give 9.2
The rest 0.8 is for the a bit weird palettes sometimes and he forgot to add some things. Just like a me! We are twins!
Overall I didn't ate a crab for xmas.

Hooray, I was worried that it was a complete failure.

Thanks!

I played through this earlier today. I liked how it turned out. You definitely seemed to get the idea that I was going for -- a nice simple desert level. It was cool how you managed to make SMW's cave tileset look like sand, and the BG was very similar to what I had in mind. The only thing I didn't dig very much was all the Munchers, but many were used in cool ways, so that's not a big deal.

If it wouldn't offend you, I probably will tweak a few things with this (remove a few munchers, add a pipe or two, maybe change some graphics) when I include it in my hack. If that would offend you, let me know. Either way, I'll make sure you get credit.

All in all -- I'm happy. This provided me with a level that I will be happy to use. Badge earned, in my opinion!

Yeah no problem, go ahead and change a couple of things if you want =) I just scattered some munchers and placed a couple of pits just to add a bit more difficulty, but do not worry, I will not be offended. Well, have fun, glad you liked it!

Agreed. I'd prefer to know who started it and didn't finish than not know at all. (But don't place shame on them. That would be taking it a little too far.)

Anyway, who was given my request? It was as follows:
Quote
A farm level. (Have barns, animal pens, etc.) Doesn't have to be completely chocolate, but please, at least use custom music.

soundcloud / bandcamp / twitter / buy/stream my EP / buy my touhou music / buy my NEW album!!!

Writing all the secondary exit numbers on a piece of paper helped me a lot!
Also thanks and happy new year.

I don't know if your request was even accepted. I don't see an level for you. Maybe it was rejected since a farm level would be hard to make.

If his idea wasn't accepted, then he wouldn't have got his secret santa assignment in the first place.

And he got it

Wow! S.C.O.R.P.I.O.N. that was a great level i want to make levels like that. i Really loved although it didn't have a boss like i wanted its still a great level.

I give you 9.75/10

Other than the boss quirk, were there any other issues; I would've made it longer but other projects contained me. (Level takes 3 minutes or so to complete if I'm correct) Also, do be sure to let them know if I've earned a badge or what not.

(About THY's level)

SEGA, hmm, I believe the level was made by THY. I liked the design of it. It surprised me that it used the same ExGFX I used to make my level with, but over all, not a hint of vanilla graphics like I asked. (<-- Read that wrong, and you're dead.) By what "I asked" is that I requested it use ExGFX and not vanilla; that what I mean. The level design was great, and the decoration. I could never think of the patterns that were used there, definitely gave me some ideas. Other than that one grinder part, the level was indefinitely professionally made; and at a long length. I like long levels, and I didn't ever request that. THY, you've got your badge if I have the power to say so.
It’s a shame to see that quite a few people didn’t receive their levels. I think Santa forgot around 7 people.

I feel bad for these people so.... I’ll go ahead and offer to do any unfulfilled requests if you guys are interested. Be warned though it could take me a while to do it as I have two other hacking related projects going on. I will put your level requests on top priority however. PM me your request if you’re interested.

BTW I agree with the decision Lucas made to not expose the users who were unable to fulfill a request. I’m sure whoever they are they feel bad enough already and there was probably a good reason why they didn’t make/finish their level. We shouldn’t put additional shame on them.
oh i didn't know we had to reviews the level. whoever made my level should get a badge. the level itself is decent and it's easy to tell that some effort went into making it.

the guy who i made a level for has never posted before; do i still get a badge?
