You're doing nothing but the same thing the in the first couple of videos, and then you get to the stuff that is new. I'd rather do LPs on final versions so it doesn't make me look cheap. Also can some edit the post #212? That code he inputed is causeing the whole thread to stretch.

I think it's because the LPers simply wanted to do an LP of the hack, even if it isn't the final version. Also, not every LPer will play through different versions of the same hack.

In my case, I don't really mind if an LPer decides to LP a demo version of my hacks, since I enjoy watching others play my hacks, and because it can help me improve on the hack for later versions. For example, watching UltraDragonYoshi's LP of YSQ V1.1 helped me spot some mistakes I made that the playtesters either didn't notice or didn't think were errors, so that I could fix them for V1.2 (Speaking of UltraDragonYoshi, he told me a while ago that he wanted to do an LP of V1.2, even after I told him that V1.2 wasn't going to be very different from V1.1, so he's one of those LPers that wants to do multiple LPs of the same hack (in this case, he wants to do another LP of YSQ most likely because he told me that YSQ is one of his top three favorite hacks)).

Also, I have no idea why that code box is stretching the thread. Since I can't figure out why it's stretching the thread, I'll just take out the code box and change the color of the text that was inside it.

Edit: I don't think it's the code box that was causing the table stretch. I think it's someone's layout that is causing it, since taking out the code box did nothing.

There are LPers who when LPing a newer version of a hack they previously played they only show new content. So yeah.
Good fucking bye.

I still think it's cheep. I they want to make a review, then make a review video rather than an LP.

... Under that logic, there's no point whatsoever in making an LP, because in the long run, they're reviews.
Good fucking bye.

Not every LPer makes LPs just to review the game they are LPing. There are many reasons why someone would do an LP of a game (to entertain others, to get more subscribers, to give their thoughts about the game, etc.). Of course, LPs can be reviews, especially if the LPer gives their opinion on the game as they are playing it, but not every LPer makes LPs just to review games.

Also, this thread isn't exactly the best place to tell others what you think about LPs of demos, Mastertech2020. Then again, I think you mentioned that here because I linked to an LP of V1.1 of YSQ, which is, as everyone who follows this hack's progress knows, is a demo version, so I'm not really sure of what to make of this.

As for updates for YSQ, like before, not much has been done lately, for the same reason that I've mentioned many times already. One thing I'm doing, though, is adding in a tutorial that can be accessed from Yoshi's House to explain everything about the custom Yoshi ASM, since I felt that that one message box in Yoshi's House that said how to do some of Yoshi's unique moves wasn't good enough anymore.

Hey, guys, I'm back from my visit to my grandparent's house, and I have something important to say regarding this hack.

I just checked out the patches section and something caught my eye. Something I've been waiting to see since this hack got started 6 months ago and mentioning frequently that I wanted. Take a guess what I'm talking about...

Yes, it's that thing I've been wanting to have.

It's a Nintendo 3DS! the fixed version of the Yoshi Abilities patches!
:D

With that, I will finally be able to finish up V1.2 of YSQ. Of course, that won't be for a couple more days, since I want to play around with the patches first to see what the differences are and to see what I will have to change to get it to work properly. Either way, expect to see V1.2 in a few days. Also, I would like to give a big thank you to Jimmy52905 for taking the time to not only fix the patches, but to add a few new features* to them as well.

Oh, and happy new year, SMWCentral.

* Just to let you guys know, some of the new features that were added to these patches aren't going to be used in V1.2 of YSQ, since I haven't designed the levels in YSQ to take advantage of them. However, for V1.3 (or whatever the final version's version number will be if V1.2 is rejected), I will make use of those features by designing the new levels with those features in mind (this is one of the reasons I didn't want to work on new levels until after V1.2 was finished, in case you were wondering) and possibly modifying the old levels to make use of them.

Hi, Corruptendo. It's nice to see you again after such a long time! What have you been up to lately (tell me in a PM, though)?

Anyway, as for YSQ related stuff, I played around with the fixed Yoshi Abilities patches and I have a good idea of how it handles; which is good, because I need to make a lot of adjustments to the levels, since several have become much harder (and some are now impossible to beat) and there are new problems I'll need to fix. Here is just a few things I'll need to do:

- I'll need to rework anything that requires Yoshi to grab something through walls, because Yoshi's tongue gets stopped by walls now.
- Yoshi's new flutter jumping makes it harder to stay at the same height, so some ledges become extremely difficult (or impossible) to reach. I'll need to fix that.
- I'm now able to put midpoints in the levels, since that glitch was fixed. Most levels will now have a midpoint in them.
- Yoshi's eggs now follow him, instead of appearing in the lower right corner of the screen, which can potentially cause sprite memory errors in some of the levels. I'll do my best to fix as many of these as I can find.
- Some of the graphics in GFX00 and GFX01 have changed, so I'll need to go through every ExGFX file that is intended for SP1/SP2 and change the graphics a little to avoid glitched graphics.

With all the stuff I have to do, fixing YSQ up for V1.2 is going to take a bit longer than I though it would, but I'll see if I can finish it this week.

Also, I needed to port everything over to a new ROM, because applying the fixed patches over the old ones caused the game to crash at the title screen. I wasn't able to port everything over though (The title screen demo needs to be redone and I can't edit the status bar for some reason), but it's not too big of a deal.

Guess what? Today is the day I finally get to upload V1.2 of YSQ! So, for those of you who have been waiting to play this version, here it is:

Link

However, if you’ve already played V1.1, there isn’t much need to play V1.2 since it’s almost the same as V1.1 (unless you really liked V1.1 and don’t mind playing the hack a second time), except for the ASM being fixed and some minor additions and improvements. Also, I should mention that there were a couple of minor problems that occured only in this version of YSQ that I encountered while playing through the hack that I have no idea how to fix or why they were occurring, but other than that, this hack should be fine. Since I uploaded this hack to the hack section this time instead of to my file bin, hopefully YSQ V1.2 will pass moderation. If not, I'll fix as many flaws in V1.2 as I can.

Anyway, now that V1.2 is finally finished, I might as well talk a bit about my plans for the final version of YSQ:

- I want to make use of more of the features in the Yoshi Ability patches, such as adding in ? clouds and watermelons (ones that allow Yoshi to attack enemies) to the levels.
- I will finish writing that tutorial that I said I was going to write up (it is extremely tedious to write, and I didn’t have the patience to finish it in V1.2. If you want to see what I did write for the tutorial so far, it’s level 1BE in Lunar Magic).
- There are going to be around 66 levels, just like in MSQ. I’ll discuss some of the level ideas I have down the line, though (Gravity Grove, Blackout Mansion, Sky Cavern, Mirror Ghost House 2, Stone Tower Temple, Slimy Cave, etc.). Unlike MSQ, nearly every level is going to have either a gimmick or an odd theme to it (this is one of the things I’ve wanted to improve upon from MSQ, since MSQ had a lot of levels that weren’t really all that strange).
- I have plans on adding in a side story in one of the later worlds. I’m not going to say any details about the side story, other than the fact that it was Mastertech2020’s idea to add in a side story to YSQ.
- Speaking of Mastertech2020, he told me a while ago that he wanted to help me out with YSQ, so I let him. While I don’t necessarily need help with YSQ, if someone wants to help out with YSQ, feel free to ask. I’ll give you credit for whatever it is that you contributed to YSQ.
- I have a few surprises planned that I will add in to YSQ at some point. I’m not telling anyone what they are though. No amount of asking will get me to say what they are, either.
- I thought about the ending I will have for YSQ. I’m not going to say what I thought about, but I will say one thing: It’s not going to be the original ending (it would probably be messed up anyway, due to the Yoshi ASM and the fact that I altered one of the global sprite palettes).
- I’ll probably add on to some of the existing levels, since I wanted to make some of them longer than they ended up being.
- There are probably more things I was planning on doing, but I can’t remember what they were right now. :(

That’s all I got to say for now. So, what do you guys think of V1.2?

Before downloading:
Did you added the Yoshies race to this version?
No. I didn't add any new levels to V1.2. Also, even if I were to include Yoshi Race, it was one of the only things that wasn't ported successfully when I had to port to a new ROM (the patch needed for that level to work doesn't want to work right now, so the game crashes as soon as the level starts, unless you hold the jump button). However, nothing is stopping you or anyone else from taking a peek into the ROM to see the stuff that isn't a part of them demo, since I don't lock my hacks.

Yoshi Race works nicely. What is the sprite you used?
Hey yoshifanatic! I've noticed you've inserted ExGFX of SNES controlers, so I'm guessing you wanted to make a tutorial room where the game shows you Yoshi's moves right?
Hopefully it won't crash on me.

That's odd. When I was porting everything over, I checked that stage to see if the patch needed for that stage to work was patched successfully, and it wasn't. After reading what you said, I checked it again, and this time the game didn't crash. I don't know why it works now, but it doesn't matter.

Also to answer your question, the Orange Yoshi is the original Yoshi sprite (modified in Tweaker to use the second graphics page, since the Yoshi sprite's graphics are being used by the health counter). What causes Yoshi to run away from you as soon as you land on him is a patch by Fakescaper called "JSL to Lose Yoshi" and a custom block placed directly under the Yoshi sprite that triggers the patch.

Huh? I haven't inserted those ExGFX into the ROM. However, I am making a tutorial level (it's level 1BE in Lunar Magic) that is accessible from Yoshi's House that explains everything about the custom Yoshi ASM that I mentioned in the readme, just in case the person playing somehow didn't get the readme or didn't take the time to read it. Just like a lot of other things in YSQ, the tutorial will be a little silly (like the fact that it doesn't cover how to do complex things like walking and jumping), though I won't go overboard with the humor in the tutorial.

It won't, unless there is a crash bug I don't know about. The crash bugs in V1.0 and V1.1 have been fixed, and the one that occurred for me while porting seems to be fixed (although that occurred in a level that is not part of the demo).

Oh right. You didn't, I did. That's why I see those controlers in the Map16.

Funny, I was doing the same thing. The only difference is that it takes place in room 49.

Hey!
It's time for another update. I've been working on another level, called "Gravity Grove". This level is pretty weird; the main gimmick of this level is that Yoshi is unable to jump, flutter jump, swim, or throw eggs due to the strange gravity, so you must use the note blocks, dolphins, and pools of water (or bubbles) to gain height. More details are in the video description for the video I made of this level:

Link

As for other YSQ updates, I was able to fix the glitch with the green coins where picking them up would sometimes not restore Yoshi's HP. All I had to do was make the coins act like tile 25 instead of 2B. Also, I found out that I wasn't able to port part of the status bar over because the Yoshi Ability patches were incompatible with the status bar editor. The incompatibility has been fixed.

I kinda like the idea with the bubbles. The level looks pretty nice.
The level looks cool. And I've finally noticed those changes on the gameplay. Good level.
I finished a demo and I'm proud that the ROM didn't crash on me when I'm in Secret House. Also the best part of this hack, I can flutter higher after stomping on the enemy. Well done, yoshifanatic.
