(Please stop posting your ideas in this thread!)
Those submitting for the second deadline (11 PM on the 31st), please send your patches to me, not Chester, thanks!
I'm sure all of you are super excited to participate in this year's winter event. We've been thinking all year about how we, the staff, can give back to the site's users. Then we realized that it would take too much effort, so we started thinking instead about how you, the users, can give back to the site's users. We came up with this brilliant idea~
The SMWCentral Level Secret Santa Event!
During this event, everyone who wants to participate must come up with a simple level idea. Then, another user gets chosen as the Secret Santa, who must complete a level based on the request. Everyone gets badges, and everyone gets a level made just for them. Fun times!
About the level ideas:
-Cannot be too advanced. If it requires coding ASM, it's too advanced.
-Cannot be too restrictive. If you're practically already designing the level yourself in text form, it's too restrictive.
-Nothing offensive.
-Be open-minded about what your Secret Santa decides to do with your idea.
-Only one idea is to be submitted, obviously.
Submitting your idea:
PM Chester with the phrase "Secret Santa" in the subject (minus quotes). The deadline for these PMs will be 4:00 AM UTC, December 15, 2011 (11:00 PM EST, December 14th). Please send your idea earlier if you're unsure whether it meets the requirements, so that we can give you a second chance to PM Chester before the deadline. If you wait until the last second, and your idea breaks the requirements, you won't be participating. Sometime on the 15th, all the level requests will be shuffled and PM'd back to a random participant.
Restrictions for the designers:
-Chocolate level design is allowed (music, ASM, graphics, etc).
-Cannot just be a level you've already created, we want the levels to be personalized.
-Should not make something too difficult unless requested in the PM.
-Upload your patch to the file bin.
-You won't know who your secret santa or secret santee will be, so you should work alone on the level.
Once you've completed the level, upload an IPS patch to the file bin and PM Chester with the phrase "Completed Santa" in the subject. If you wish to remain anonymous, please say so in the PM, otherwise your name will be listed together with the patch. This must be done before 4:00 AM UTC, December 24, 2011 (11:00 PM EST, December 23rd). Later, the IPSes will be posted, and everyone will have a chance to play the level they requested and review it. Badges will be given out to everyone who made a decent level (by hack submission standards), or received a good review.
One last thing! As you can see, it's very important that participants follow through with making a level after requesting one. Please don't disappoint someone else over the holidays by not finishing your level! The levels will not be judged, strictly speaking, so please stick with something you know you can finish rather than something advanced that you'll have to give up on at the last second. Any questions before joining in? Ask here! I'm looking forward to seeing how these levels turn out!
And a very merry Christmas from S.N.N., who is busy flunking his finals:
