#4 is used the most
#7 is used quite a bit but it uses the jumping SFX
#6 is used for spinjumps which is probably used the least.
If you have to end up using those channels, use #6 first, then #7, then #4 in that order.
Also, you can put percussion on those channels, just keep redefining them per note.

It won't change the insert size.I think a post layout goes here somewhere...
I'd argue that #4 should be before #7 in usage order.
#4 and #7 I'd say are used about the same but yes, that's arguable.I think a post layout goes here somewhere...
I've always thought it was #7 due to the sole fact that the jump SFX is on it.
Think about it. How many more times are you going to jump than stomp enemies in a standard Mario game?Check out my music!
It can greatly depend Moose, every other SFX uses channel #4 basically. What about if you're in a water level? You won't use #7 at all. It ultimately depends on what you have in the game.I think a post layout goes here somewhere...
So the moral is: (talking about Moose and Slash Man above)
Don't use #7 or try to use it in really extreme cases. Additionaly, you can use #7 as much as you want IF the song you ported/composed is meant to be used as a water theme, since Mario doesn't jump inside water.
What about coin sfx, what about bullet bills, what about sawblades, what about jumping on enemies? #4 is very busy 90% of the time. It's best to use that one last. Even if you're not in a water level they're used quite a lot.
When people jump in SMW, they combine jumps with spinjumps most of the time too which narrows the use of #7 greatly.I think a post layout goes here somewhere...
I'm talking about sfx in general, #4 is used the most and other sfx would interfere in #4 moreso than #7.I think a post layout goes here somewhere...
Funny how this thread got so much replies...and yes #4 and #7 are important for my port, because it's a standard level :3
(It would be REALLY interesting to know what sound effects appears on the overworld!! I never heard a question 'bout that. And thanks in advance of course )

There really are sound effects on the OW, like whenever Mario stops on top of a level tile, saves, or presses a P-Switch.
If I'm not mistaken, most, if not all OW SFX are done on #4.
