Alright guys, this is the big one. I wanted to throw some stuff at you all before I left for the summer. Introducing my hack... First Strike! It is kind of a dramatic story line, but still this is going to be a great hack (yeah I am getting a bit high of myself, but it is good encouragement =D). Well I will show the Beta state of the story to you.

STORY LINE
Who had the first strike? Bowser... or Mario? One day Bowser was on a stroll. Such a nice guy, enjoying the sweet breeze of the ocean. Then Bowser met the most beautiful woman, Princess Peach. He had been admiring her from afar, until he eventually worked up a substantual amount of courage to go meet her. They starting talking, began to become such great friends. Later on in the day, Mario was on a walk through Toad Town. As he was walking past Princess Peach's Castle, he saw Bowser With Princess Peach. Not thinking he sprung into an uncontrolable rage, setting a fire in the pit of his stomache. Bowser loved the Princess but Peach told him that she was already in love, with Mario. Bowser's soul sunk deep within in the pit of his heart... So. Who had the first strike? You find out in the hack: First Strike! Brought to you by Camoslash!

Yeah still working on the story somewhat, any suggestions for the story just tell me =)

Well now that I got the story line out of the way, here are some pictures.

Alright so here is the OW, thanks to Exor for designing it =D I still need to finish it up, since I got it a bit earlier, since ya know, I'm leaving for a while soon (thought it was going to be Monday but I was wrong haha), but pretty great OW right?

Also I have added the Metroid HP Ptach if you did not notice, I am only going to hide 2 extra Energy Tanks throughout the entire game, and you are most likely going to need them for the last boss. So what do you guys think? I would like some good criticism because I am pretty sure I am handing in my laptop tomorrow or Thursday. So thanks in advance for your comments and everybody have a great summer!!

Wow this is looking really good so far. I'm defiantly liking how the BG and FG fit together and the level is well decorated. (At least I think.)

The story seems pretty cool so far; also liking the name of the hack too.

Woah, nice! I like the looks of that level. It's nicely designed and the palettes are very good, except for the stone block palette. The FG fits the BG pretty perfect and keeps an SMW style in there as well. It's decorated very well too.

The OW looks very, very nice yet! Keep up the great work, man.
Every hack I have seen always have those graphics in. The level design is good. The overworld also looks good but it is a bit empty (I think you will fix that though).
Looks nice. I like the overworld, even though you didn't make it.

I also like the arrangement of the status bar. It looks good.

Hey guys, haven't ben on in a while =P Well I hope everybody has been doing good!

Anyways, quick update, worlds 1 and 2 are complete, and I will release Pics and a demo as son as I get my old computer back, since right now I am on a friend's computer right now. I wish I at least ha some pics with me so I could show you te progress, bt oh well. Also could someone point me to a tutorial for using NPC's and a tutorial for the Cutscene Tool? Well thanks for your help in advance everyone, hope everbody is having a great vacation!!

Alright no replies to the request for tutorial, oh well I will find one =/

Anyways, I am finally back with some pics! Feels good to be making progress, I am definetly not giving up on this one!

So here we go:



Here is Shy Shy Forest, completely inhabited by well you probably guessed, Shy Guys.


And here is Sunset Park! The music goes well with this level, it is music from "Mother" and the song name is "Fields", which was in a folder called NES Compilation, can't remember who did the song, but do not worry, I will give you credit when I get done. Also that pipe goes to the secret exit, but how to get in there? Hmm... Here is another Pic of Sunset Park:



Here are some screenies of Hilltop Castle. How do you guys like the palette? Well anyways yeah the boss of the first castle is invisible. If you think that is too hard for the first boss say something, then I will change it into an albatoss that you can actually see. Also here is the boss room:

I put two layers of throw block over the green slime (obviously lava, just don't question heh.) to make it a bit more interesting.



And here is Giant's Meadow. This level and the next one will include giants, this is due to Bob the Magikoopa, an attempt by one of Bowser's Henchmen to slow your way to his castle. But it shouldn't be a problem.



And here is the next giant's level, the Sand Dunes, inhabited by giant Spinies and giant Red Koopas. The second screeny shows a secret pipe that leads to a bonus area.




Here is Shroom Valley, home of Boomerang Bros and Human Eating Mushrooms! A secret exit leads to a mushroom house, giving you what you ask? Just wait and see. Although I have not done the interior of the mushroom house, I still have a level there so you will still be able to access it in the demo.


Bob the Magikoopas Castle. Eh, not really much to say, you just have to play it, but one of my favorites things I like to do in castles is in this one =)

And this is Bob's battle room. I wanted to put a cutscene before this but still not sure how to work the cutscene. Also where can I get ActivePerl? Well anyways this is a fun boss battle, even though you can die after you beat him :/ I gotta find a better way to end it safely.



And here is Violet Skies, the level right after Bob's Castle. Not much to say besides it is a series of violet skies heh. How does the palette look? I wish I would had took better screen shots there.



Welcome to Kaboomba Isle! Also included are Goombas! YI Goombas to be exact. Great level I think, although mostly linear due to that it is suppose to be a level with tides, but then it started acting wierd, like there was a ceiling rising and falling with the movement of the water... Then at the end there was a bunch of glitched wierdness so I had to take off the tides. But yeah this a pretty good level for being linear I think.


K.I.M.'s Castle this is. K.I.M. stands for King Ingenious Mouser, but his friends just call him Kim.

Here is the boss room, I added bullet bills to make it more intense, and to make it even more intense, I tweaked the bullet bills so you cannot jump on top of them, that also makes sure you cannot cheat your way up to his platform =) For some odd reason for this castle, it skipped the intro walk in? I do not know how that happened but thank the heavens that did happen, I want to get rid of that for all castle but I do not know how to do that, but doesn't it require hex editing? Eh, that is what someone said.


Cloudy Cliff, that last level I made. Goonies are the main theme of this level, they fit right in. I also made all other sprites about the same colors.

And the last thing I want to show you guys is the intro screen.

The eye is symbolizing the anger and rage of the story. I used the patch for the one player/one file as you can see =D So what do you guys think so far? Also after I get done with world 3 and 4 I will release a demo! Hope you guys will like it!

Hilltop Castles' FG palette is pretty off... change it to tones of green. And about the tide level, did you make sure you didn't pass screen 0F? Because if so, that's the reason of the glitched tiles.

Wow this is looking pretty Good camoslash. Good to know you still been working on this. Looking forward to the demo.

Yeah only one thing; I think the level with the stars and Purple background need some fixing.

Alright everyone some progress and a demo are ready!

The new-ish title screen, I made my own "First Strike" Title =D



The Blinding Sands has well, blinding sands! In the second part of the level sand will drop slowly down from the ceiling and will block your vision, so try to get to the next ON/OFF switch as fast as possible!


This is Flint Rock Desert, where flames appear in blazing pillars! You can't beat the heat in this desert.


This is The Desert Cave Entry, part of the desert that leads into the Ancient Desert Caves.


Miniature puzzle time! Still needs a reset door though haha.


And this is the inside, a quick look at what the Ancient Caves World is going to look like.

Really nice hack, got game over at the castle but it crashed. Probably go back to it tomorrow or something.

Looks really nicely done. I like the GFX especially some of the BG's.

Yeah it is suppose to be invisible, don't worry haha. Just try to followthe pattern of where the bombs drop.

I just started playing this hack and I've reached The Blinding Sands. I'll be honest though: What I have played so far has disappointed me. The levels are really bland and some of them can be completed by holding right and occasionally jumping, the bosses are sort of bad (having an invisible boss is really silly if you ask me), there's inconsistent graphics choices and some palettes could greatly be improved. I did, however enjoy some things. The OW looks really nice and the storyline is interesting.

I'll just post a few screenshots and comment on them:


This place is called Toad Town, but it's very isolated and I see no Toads anywhere. It would be nice if you could add a few Toad NPCs here and maybe some mini games if possible.


This was a blind drop for me and I fell into the lava.


This poor guy fell off the ledge just a little after I saw him. :( Also, some of enemies used here pose no threat to the player, for example this guy.


Here's an example of a palette that I think could be adjusted.


Did this BG just glitch for me..? On a side note, I loved the Goombas used here. They have a very smooth animation.


This sort of irritated me. I can't jump on the Bullet Bills and I wasn't told why.

Overall, I'd say the hack is average. You should spice up the level design a bit and make the terrain a bit varied. As of now, many levels just consist of going right and jumping. You should also try to add a sense of progression to the levels too if possible.
