"24 Hour SMW" was an idea proposed by Kieran to the rest of the staff. Apparently this is quite successful on other forums (though for things other than SMW hacking of course), so we figured it would be worth trying here.
The idea behind it is that I will give you a specialized theme (not too specific; you'll have some leeway) and you'll have to design a level/area matching it. The catch is, of course, that you only have 24 hours to do so. You'll need to play your cards smartly and not over-exert yourself. A good way to win this one would be to focus on something like a 10-15 screen area which is very focused and well made (unless you really think you can do something more in the allocated time limit). Please post your submissions in the other stickied thread.
Restrictions? There are none, but keep in mind if you're going to spend six hours coding an ASM gimmick or writing a song, you won't have time for your level. Be cautious and choose right away whether you want to work with vanilla resources or try for something a little more flashy.
Here is the theme. The final time for submissions will be tomorrow morning at 11:00 EST:
Pretend Bowser's Castle had a ninth door. Design what you think this room would look like. Keep in mind that each of the other doors focused on specialized ideas, so it might be wise to pick a concept and stick with it. Again, if you are a wise designer, this should not take you very long at all.
I would love to see those people who go "well I'm not good enough, so I won't win" and even non-hackers try their hand at this. The only thing being judged is the level design itself (simply because it would be impossible to judge much else that a regular level contest would have), so if someone brings forth a great vanilla level and a subpar chocolate level, the nod will go to the vanilla level.
Good luck, and if you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask. If this turns out to be successful, we might make it a rather common thing.
