I didn't played it, but I read the complete Website(about SMW Freedom). And I can point out, that this Hack is legendary. Especially the new Characters and the wonderful music. And also the maps are wonderful created. The Tips, the items and the controll would be very useful to this site. But what is the story of the Hack? I would be so happy, if I could watch a video of this Hack. It should be LP'd. And if you upload it on SMWC and it won't get featured I WILL go inactive.

Agrees with this (Well accept the inactive part); I'm not even done with it yet and I'd vote feature XD

Well I don't know where I'm at right now but I think I'm pretty far into the hack. This hack is pretty great actually; in most of the areas so far. I really like the custom sprites and bosses for this hack; they're pretty creative.

The custom music is alright; but just the fact that it has custom music is a plus still...I shall give a review once I finish it.

It's on the right hand side, past the midpoint.
I played it and beat it (I am not going to look for secret exits).

Now, this hack wasn't bad, but you are lucky that you implemented custom sprites. Each boss was good, but why was the final boss the same? The Baby Bowser + Dry Bowser fight was extremely hard, then you go through a super hard castle, only to get to the easy SMW Bowser fight. 9/10

Anyway, for most of the hack, I disliked the levels. I felt they were uninspired, and frankly, I found most of them quite boring. If it weren't for me being excited to see the next boss, I would've stopped. Finally, after Petey Piranha's Castle (or Thwomp King's Castle), I felt the level design improved immensely, and I actually had fun. I was disappointed that it took me 5 or 6 worlds in to have fun. 5/10

For the graphics, I didn't see much wrong with them, but a lot of the palettes you had were really weird/ugly, and I didn't see them fit anywhere. I also didn't understand why there was a log cabin level in a cave... but instead there were no elements of a cave in there. (That was just a nitpick, but I found it weird). 7/10

For the OW, I didn't dislike anything. The OW was perfect in my eyes, and I loved how the land formed before you when you were in the sky world. I cannot comment much on here since it was great. 10/10

Now, onto the music. The music was okay in some levels, but for some levels, it was ear-searing (to me, at least), in which it actually caused me to turn off the volume in which the level was over. 8/10

Now, the final factor is replayability. I honestly would not replay most of the hack. I would replay all of the levels that I mentioned earlier where the level design had a huge boost. This would make it a 5/10 for this category, but a lot of levels had TONS of SLOWDOWN! I felt like a majority of the well designed levels were filled with a lot of slowdown at one point, and I personally don't want to go through all of that again. 4/10

HACK RATING: 43/60 or 7/10

In all, it was a decent hack (not the best), but a lot of the earlier levels I feel should be worked on.
Just back here to browse a bit.

You might as well search for a few secrets at the endgame-You'll miss out on two other "final" castles with completely new bosses at the end otherwise. Also, I did really like the level design the whole way through...

... Um, what? I did not experience anywhere near that much slowdown...
Good fucking bye.

I guess I will play levels at the end that have secret exits, since despite slowdown, I enjoyed them.

By TONS of SLOWDOWN, I mean a lot of levels had them, for me at least. Maybe it was the emulator?

Also, the next time I play a hack, I will play it before reading reviews. Reading all of the reviews put in my mind a bar for how good this hack would be, but it didn't make it while playing it. I'm sure if I didn't read the reviews people left, I would've enjoyed it more.

Also, since everyone was saying "OMG AWESOME ASM AND SPRITES AND BOSSES AND STUFF", I guess I expected some unique levels that couldn't easily be ran through within a minute. I expected some unique puzzles, and maybe an ASM gimmick or two, at least.

Finally, it was after King Thwomp's Castle where I started to enjoy the level design, I remembered. Those were levels that I feel couldn't be ran through to beat the level, and you actually had to take your time.

As a last remark, THANK YOU for putting all of those throw blocks in the underwater levels. I hate underwater levels in general, so being able to get the speed boost made me very happy.

Yes there was indeed slow down at a lot of parts (Plus one fight was full of slowdown)

Anyways I finished the Hack...the Normal Route so like Chanagaburu here; I'm just going to give my review. (Don't read this post if you don't want to see it)

Level Design 7/10: I say overall your level design was good for the most part; didn't really find anything that stood out to be honest.

Difficulty 4/10: Might just be me but your hack was pretty easy through out most of the game; I didn't really notice a good difficulty curve. But I don't rate hacks based on this unless I feel it's necessary. (Which in this case it isn't)

Graphics 7/10: Graphics..nothing to special but not really anything to complain about. Your palettes were good in some parts but in the later worlds the palettes...were actually pretty bad to me..kind of seemed like they were just thrown together.

Music 8/10: Music...was alright...but I must give you an 8 for effort at least; and doing the music in the first place.

Boss/Sprites 9/10: Honestly I liked your sprites and bosses a lot. Some of them were pretty creative and your boss fights were fun. Your bosses actually took some effort which is a nice change for once.

Overall I think the hack was worth the time. (Well didn't take me very long actually) After playing through the normal route...not sure if I'd say it's feature status (I notice I said that earlier) but still a good hack to play. You get a 31/40 which is 8/10 I think.

(Though I realize this review can be pointless as I don't know if the author is coming back but eh W/E)
My Youtube Channel for Hacking and Gaming.
I played through several worlds of the hack, and I think that is sufficient to write a review.

Level Design: 6/10.
You had some neat ideas for some levels, but others felt like bland rehashes of original SMW levels. Your goal was to provide a feel of an enhanced version of SMW, and you met this goal fairly well. Still, I fully believe that you could have done a lot more.

Music: 9/10.
Though you did use the same castle theme for every castle I played, it was a good castle theme. In fact, the music was extremely well done. My only real gripe is with the origianl SMW music--we've heard those songs billions of times.

Graphics: 5/10.
Most of your palette choices were, as I saw them, rather bad. Your Overworld and Submap palettes were also pretty poor, especially seen in Mario. Nothing was by any means atrocious, but there's definite room for improvement here, too.

Custom Blocks/Sprites/ASM: 9/10.
Good sir, your bosses were perfect. I also very much liked your use of blocks and general sprites. This and the soundtrack were the apparent main attractions of the hack, and both areas succeeded beautifully.

Overall: 29/40 = B.
Overall, it wasn't too bad of a hack, but there is still room for improvement. You are an excellent spriter and musician, and if you tweak your graphics and level design skills a bit, you will have some 'godly' hacking powers at your disposal.
Will somebody LP this Hack?
