SMWCP2's Soundtrack: Organization! (02-22-14)

Can I reserve a final boss music spot? I have something in the works that might turn out okay for it.

There's no need for that- just show us what you have when it's ready. I don't think there's any rush to make a final decision about which song to use.

Alright. My song should be done soon. Just fixing up a few things to make it sound nicer. :)

EDIT: How does this sound? I'm heavily considering changing the main instruments to something else, but nothing else in the SMW arsenal seems to fit. What do you guys think?

I personally don't really... like it... it feels more like a bunch of notes actually...

Well, it doesn't sound that bad, but yeah, you might want to consider using other SMW instruments since a bunch of @17s sound kind of abrupt. I would say, your choice of instruments was not really good. Try using @4/@6/@1 with an ADSR effect that makes those instruments sound smoother. You could try using samples too, but eh.. that is up to you. Also, your composition is incredibly short. Repetitive songs won't suit a long level, y'know? :P. So yeah, try changing the instruments and make the length of your composition longer. Get chance and luck!

...Yeah. Actually I've tried changing the @17 to something else, but it still didn't sound too good either. I'll still tweak a few things, though.

Well, I'm not going for the Final Level, I'm going for the final boss.
...But I can try to extend the song for a little bit, I guess.

Isn't there an official SMWCP2 sample bank I should use? I'm pretty sure SNN mentioned that somewhere.

Oops, I think I misread your post >_<;
I'm sorry about that.
..but yeah, try extending it.

There is.
I can PM you the BRR files and 'blist.txt', if you wish to use samples.
So, with the music remoderation project going on, I've decided not to put forward anything for the final level; however, I have several ideas for the title screen and/or the credits.

Has a song yet been chosen for the title screen? If not, then I would like to give that one a try after I see what the graphics artists design.
I've thrown Lucas's grass level song up on the list, if anyone is looking for something upbeat-but-not-really for their level.

(Also Camerin, we were all under the assumption that you were going to make the title screen theme, so it's yours if you want it.)
Okay. I wasn't sure, so thanks for clearing that up. I am going to wait until the title screen is finished (because there's no point writing a song and finding out the most liked title screen doesn't match).
I've just listened to your last level themes, they're awesome. I also wanted to do something: at first I thought I could make just some fast-paced music but then I realized we're talking about a factory...so I tried to put various pan fades and fast notes that could make the music sound more "mechanical".

Here's the original mp3 version that is quite different from the port.

This is awesome. I'm so happy you decided to try to cook something up for this, because I think you nailed the mechanical mood perfectly. In fact, I think we've found our final level theme for sure (assuming there are no objections, of course). If you have the TXT handy, I'll take it for the base ROM.

(oh, and if you'd like, I can sample in a few things from that MP3 - specifically, the crash cymbal and the piano.)

Thanks! I'll PM you the txt file.

Of course, I'd like it very much.
I just got a little bored today and started mucking about in FL Studio. I came up with something... Interesting. I'll probably port it either way but I wondered if it'd serve a purpose anywhere in SMWCP2.

Tough Ol' Challenge

I actually first composed this using an SMW sf2 bank so I have a fairly decent idea of what this should sound like.

The song was loosly inspired by the opening to the Offspring's Hammerhead (as you may well notice) which came up on my playlist earlier today. The distinct rhythm of the distortion guitar that plays before the lyrics start got stuck in my head for the rest of that day so I decided to use it (I woulda been fucking brilliant on the Earthbound soundtrack team).

If this can fill any holes in the soundtrack that need filling I'll be more than happy to port it. I'd also appreciate any feedback on how it could be changed for the better. I've got FL Studio minimised all day so I can jump straight back in.

Also it's intended to loop directly from the start after it's played through.

EDIT: Was taking some tips from RC on the IRC and have tweaked it a little. Link has been updated. The original is still in my file bin if you want to hear it.

I don't really like listening to MIDIs (I usually prefer listening to the actual port) but I think that's pretty interesting!
As it's quite short, I guess it could fit in some kind of fast-paced portion in an intense level.

I don't know, but I whipped up something just now in 30 minutes.

I'll post it in the Compositions thread when I upload the spc.

And so, here it is.
All it is right now is a melody edit of the original boss complete theme with Kadyastar's leitmotif and some harmony thrown in.

Keep that in mind when posting your criticism.
Check out my music!
It works though, and sounds quite nice. I see no problem with replacing our current "boss complete" theme with that.

Would you have any interest in doing a "level complete" one too?
Probably. Let me just see if I can find some more time.

In the meantime, would you like me to send you the .txt?
Check out my music!
Wow, this is awesome. Good work.

Maybe it's a bit early, but I tried to make something for the final boss.

Why the hell are you such a good composer :( That's awesome!

Assuming the intro, this could work good for the second phase of the final boss
