Kipernal's Generic YI Editing Tools

Tool

Even though I already edited level name of 1-1 once, the programm now ask me again as if I used this ROM the first time. I always go with the 6000
That's strange. Two more questions: Have you edited your level names/messages manually before, and did you delete the garbage text in the "Nothing?" names?
I should get a new layout.

Probably won't, though.
here are the steps:

1. I started editing 1-1 with Golden Egg on a clean ROM
2. I changed 1-1 name to "Path Of The Yoshi's" with Y.I.P.S. (worked good)
3. I started editing 1-2 with Golden Eggs
4. Wanted to change 1-2 name and this error occured.
5. I tried deleting unused messages in my ROM and got more space so I could change 1-2 name to "Bowser's First Strike"
6. I played the hack and noticed all my message blocks are messed up (I did not edit messages, yet).

7. I took an old backup of my hack and stoped trying to edit the level names. =( =(
Would you mind sending me a .IPS of your ROM so I can take a look at it?
I should get a new layout.

Probably won't, though.
I send it via PM now! :)
Could you find any solution?

And can I edit level names without your tool actually?

I haven't had much time to look for a solution due to some rather...problematic issues in real life. I'll take a closer look when I can, but for now, the best suggestion I have is to increase the amount of free space to something like F000 instead of 6000. See if that works.

It's possible, though you may find it confusing, especially if you're not familiar with hex-editing. (Directions are in the FAQ thread, at the part where it says "For reference, the previous method of text editing follows.")

Aww, thank you very much - but the problem seems to be solved - I deleted all the stuff in the "unknown" spots and now it seems to work. :)

And good luck with your personal life - hope everything ´ll be alright. =)
Finally decided to seriously try out YIPES. A few things to point out...

First of all, if you try to open a ROM that's being used by another program, YIPES completely closes.

And the Save ROM button doesn't appear on the other tabs (and Ctrl-S doesn't seem to work), which gets annoying.

Also, I found some strangeness when using $ to manually insert hex values...

- Not sure if this happens to everyone, but if I try to type, say, $60, it will give an error after each character before it's finished (meaning I'm actually typing $-enter-6-enter-0).

- If I try typing, say, "1-1:$FE$10$08The Cave of Entry" as a level name, and save, it does insert correctly; however, it automatically removes that $FE$10$08 when I display the level name again.

- When editing messages, sometimes it doesn't automatically insert a line break if the line contains a manual hex value. I assume that's intentional so people can manually add the line breaks, but what if I'm just manually inserting other characters?

For example, how would I insert this (with line breaks occurring as usual)? Typing it as is will cause the message to completely glitch up. ($3F is a dot without a space, $37 is a comma without a space (yes I know I could have used $CF but I prefer $37$D0), and $60 is a double-width space.)

(The hack name probably won't appear on the final intro message by the way-- it was intended just as a filler until I edit the title screen.)

I probably should have put an error message there or something, but if Y.I.P.E.S. detects an issue when opening a file, it closes itself.

I can fix that.

That's odd (it looks like some special characters mess up the character after it). I'll have to look into it. Give me a day or two; I don't have the source on this computer.

There is an error message, but I don't see why the program would need to close in the first place. Why not just remain open with no ROM loaded (or with the previous ROM loaded if you already had one open)?

That reminds me, I couldn't get the tool to run at all when it was in a folder called "Y.I.P.E.S."; I couldn't even open or copy the folder on Windows (it might have something to do with the fact I downloaded and unzipped it on a Mac, not sure).

It uses .Net, right? You could call MessageBox.Show, display an error message, then exit the method using "return;" for C# or "Exit Sub/Function" for VB.

This stinks! I can't use these, Chrome blocked them. #tb{D'X}
How do you actually use the Title Screen editor to edit it? All I can manage to do is use stamps from the tile picker to paste in the editor and change the palette.
It should be possible to edit in your own complete image? But I don't understand.

The links in the main post are all broken and the tools cannot be downloaded anymore. However, I uploaded them in my file bin:

Y.I.P.E.S.

Sprite set editor

Title screen editor

Can a mod/administrator update the main post, please?

(Thanks to MasterSkodwarde for noticing this!)
