Ocarina of Time: Spirit Temple or Shadow Temple?

I do the Shadow Temple first. Honestly, I could've sworn there was a time where you had to use the Shadow Temple's item to get through the Spirit, but apprarently I was wrong XD. Anyway, I like the Spirit Temple. It's one of my favorites. Shadow was kinda odd, considiring it's hardly "templish" at all. Oh, and while I'm at it, **** the Water Temple.

Awesome! Did you ask? :D
I'm so meta, I do both at the same time whilst juggling 12 chainsaws and playing the drums with my chin.

Which translates to the Shadow Temple, I love that dungeon for its creepy vibe.

This post isn't really about the intended order, it's about what we personally do first. It's obvious what the intended order is in the game. Even ignoring the fact that Sheik mentions them in the order Forest-Fire-Water-Shadow-Spirit, and that's the same order Navi tells you to go when she talks to you, Bottom of the Well is commonly linked with the Shadow Temple, much like the Child and Adult segments of the Spirit Temple. Considering you get the Lens of Truth in the Bottom of the Well, which is required* for the Haunted Wasteland, it seems like they'd want you to go through the Shadow Temple first anyway.

*Not "required" I know, but for a new player it would be. You'd also need either the Longshot (Water Temple) or Hoverboots (Shadow Temple) to cross the River of Sand without glitches, now that I think of it.
I always did the Spirit Temple last. As a kid, I never gave the thought to do it first. Since the event that triggers Bongo Bongo escaping the well occurs RIGHT after you finish the Water Temple, it also seemed to me that that was the intended order. MajorasMask9 covers the other reason I believed the Shadow Temple came first. You HAVE to get the Lens of Truth before you can complete the Spirit Temple, and you usually do the Bottom of the Well right before the Shadow Temple anyway. At least, on a first playthrough you more than likely would. Now, I usually get the Lens of Truth as early as the Fire Temple because it's more convenient for me.

So yeah, the Spirit Temple seems more like a definitive final temple to me. With Koume and Kotake being Ganondorf's mothers, from the temple actually being his old base of operations (in Child Link's time.)

Also, Twinrova > Bongo Bongo, so that's a plus.

You know, I was actually disappointed by Bongo Bongo.

Judging by the rest of the temple, I remember thinking the boss was was gonna be something that would scare me out of my mind, like the grim reaper or a demon from the deepest depths of Hell or something, but instead it was some weird invisible thing with two hands that beat on a drum.

You have a good point. But still, he was really hard for me, and I never beat him until I got my action replay.
The first time I beat the game without cheats was on the N64 instead of the gamecube.

I did the shadow temple in OoT3D first, on master quest too. Although I'm sure the spirit temple goes first because of the order of the medallions and how Impa says you'll meet Zelda soon after you beat bongo bongo.

I liked the spirit temple better though, the music is neat.
For the longest time I didn't know you could go to the spirit temple first nor sure how many people intentionally went there first thinking it was meant to be before the shadow temple around the time it came out as well (Visa Versa). I'm not 100 percent sure of course but I think the Shadow temple was attended to be first. Reasons? Well everybody else pretty much listed good reasons.

I still go to the Shadow first cause the Spirit temple's my favorite; just love it. For some reasons; the Shadow temple didn't really scare me as a kid..; the Redeads did however =/

I think I've figured this thing out.
In the original game, the spirit temple was necessary before the shadow temple, because the medalions were equipable items, and the spirit medalion was the lens of truth.
There you have it.♪

If you're talking about the Lens of truth, then yes there are a few parts that involve the lens of truth in the Spirit temple.

No, the Shadow Temple's item would be the Hover Boots.

You don't even get the lens of truth in the Shadow Temple...

Yes, this is what I meant. I just got past the Shadow Temple, and I'm heading to the Spirit today, so I guess I'll find out (still, I could've sworn I needed it...).
Oh whoops; guess it's been that long since I've played that I forgot where you get the lens of truth. (Only played the game like twice)

but doesn't change the fact that I still think Shadow temple is first.

Apparently you can just use your hook shot to get pass if you angle yourself right. However it seems like that part was attended for you to use the Hover Boots just by how you had to use the hook shot.

You can also use the longshot to hook onto the crates. Hookshot isn't long enough, but the longshot can easily reach them. I think the fact that the crates are even there in the first place shows it was intended as a viable option @ EvilGuy.

....? I meant the Longshot....I was just saying Hookshot in general. (To be honest I didn't even know they had different names) Also yeah I know that; I'm just saying that it looked like the main intention was for the Hover Boots to be used. Could be wrong of course. -_-
