Briefing: This level should incorporate both fire and ice in a creative way of your choice. Note that it may help to converse with the other two users who have chosen the fire/ice theme and collaborate ideas.
Well, I confirmed it with SNN via PM and I'll be ready to start working immediately. I'll post my idea when SNN confirms my confirmation and hopefully deletes all posts in this thread for a new start. If not, meh, I'll just go on and post my updates here. Actually, I'll just post my idea now.

I plan to have 2 sections to this level, both with Fire and Ice, not one room with fire and another with ice, that would be boring, I want to spruce it up a bit. I might need to make some custom GFX and post them here and adjust them every bit to fit the style of the hack.

Here's my idea.

Section one (entrance level)
Like your regular level, lava, ground, ice in places. I plan to make it to where you have to melt the ice using a fire flower to access areas. Not much is planned here yet.

Section two
A more heated area. When you are not in an icy area, a life bar will go down and when it is empty, you will die. When you are in an icy part, the bar will refill. Still more planning is needed.

Well, what do you guys think?

Be sure to warn the player that your bar reduces I like the idea, it reminds me of the volcano of Banjo Tooie :P

I have deleted the rest of the posts from this thread since .. well, they were getting pretty nasty anyway. moltensnow, if you DO read this, you should already know that this level was your responsibility. If you were going to slack off and not read any threads (even your own), you should not have signed up. Furthermore, if you had "other shit to do", a simple PM to me saying so would have sufficed. Instead you have just wasted two months of everyone's time. That, and if you really couldn't have designed a level without the aide of graphics .. well, the design would have likely been questionable anyway. Sorry to lay the hard truth on you, but we're all in this together, and one broken gear stops the machine.

Moving on .. I like your ideas there MGH. We (as far as I recall), already have an air/life meter in the base ROM (check the sprites thread), so you might be able to incorporate that into your level.

Aside from that, I know you're more than capable of drawing your own graphics and creating your own unique ideas, so best of luck to you.
Thank you S.N.N.

Well, I plan to keep you guys updated and should have some beta GFX done tomorrow, but I don't have much ideas on how to mix fire and ice into a unique array of sorts, plus there is claiming map16 space.

I looked into the sprites that are in the ROM and the firebro will be helpful, but I wondered if we had an ice bro too, I know I saw something like that on the site somewhere...

What's best is that Fire is my favorite, and the ice makes it even cooler. I'll try coming up with some sort of gimmick for the 1st section, but I can't think of anything right now. All that's on my mind is the GFX.

MrDeePay reserved sprite 0E and 0F for the Ice Bro and Ice Ball. don't know if they are already in the rom.

I should have something witty to put here (even if it's just to update dated info), shouldn't I?

The Fire and Ice Bros are sprites C and E, respectively. And if you wish to use them in the level, use this instead, as it will conserve ROM/GFX space.

Thanks MrDeePay. That will come in handy.

Anyhow, I have made some ExGFX. Any changes to fit the style will be greatly appreciated if you could point them out.

The map16, is not permanent. Just assembling to see if it all fits right. I won't sign up for Map16 until the ExGFX are completed and approved.

I'll have to sign up for 1 sub-level and 2 secondary entrances. IDK which ones yet though since I am not really focused on it yet.

For starters, it would need to look more cartoony (reduce the amount of shading the ground has) and it would be more helpful if you posted the actual palettes that would be used for the level or a least a screenshot (mockup or not) that shows the level in action.

Also, what the heck is with the perspective with the tiles on the right?

I think the tiles on the right are supposed to represent pure ice (in which case it honestly looks fine to me).

I'm actually curious to know if you're going to be drawing more fire tiles though. I see a lot that could work for ice, but I only see a couple there for fire. You do have plans to add to this, I assume?
I do have plans, but suggestions for fire tiles would be greatly appreciated. After looking into MrDeePay's thread and saw this lava rock, I thought I could maybe make something like that and some burnt ground.

After getting through with Paint. Here's the Palette.

EDIT:

Okay, here is a comparison pic. Which is better fitting to the style...

Top is me following MrDeePay's suggestion and bottom is what it was when I made it.

Ok, I got some Mock up Screen shots to show. After I claim Map16 today, I will start really making my level.

I'll worry about editing the GFX later, after I have built my level. I plan to make the first part as unique as possible. I don't want to waste my level on some plain platforming when I can have some gimmick behind it.

Now that I see it in action, I don't like that palette at all. They're more fitting (if even at that) in a hack based around the style you and SCORPION use and just doesn't fit what is being attempted for SMWCP2. It sticks out like a sore thumb, basically.

Les purples, yellows, and dark blues; more whites and light blues.

Is this pallete better?

I sure hope that background is in no way final, the gradient could be much, much smoother with just a bit of hdma and I'm sure you could whip up an amazing background anyway.

The BG is in no way final, I just can't stand a black or blank BG to work with on LM...

The FG palette is a bit better .. on the ice, at least. I'm assuming the ground under the volcano is supposed to be the "fire" part, so it seems really weird to have white on the top. It seems so smooth and reflective. Perhaps try some darker shades.
For some reason, that palette isn't all that great. I agree that it's better than before, but still.
Okay, so maybe if I just darken the white to a gray maybe and the ground to a black-Red, would that work?

alright, I'm not going to focus on the palette anymore. It's getting me no where, I know what I want to do with the level, I'm going to go ahead and start designing and focus on the palette AND BG later.

So when I post some screenshots, please focus on the level and not the palette for now, I'm getting absolute nowhere with it for now.
