World 8: Designers' Discussion

I'd like the designers of world 8 to use this thread to collaborate on ideas and such (that way we prevent repeats of gimmicks, graphical usage, etc.)

Thanks.

I should have something witty to put here (even if it's just to update dated info), shouldn't I?

Alright ladies, World 7 is my top priority when it comes to keeping tabs on everyone else, though the other three Fire/Ice levels take slightly higher precedence. So I'm gonna pick on you three.

Moltensnow - From my understanding, has made no LM progress on the level at all, opting to have some graphics made first. Has made not a peep despite me telling him that he doesn't need the graphics to actually work on the level since what he's requesting doesn't seem to be that critical.

Mariocool - Posted a level proposal/concept, but no screens or a demo. I'm personally not sold on it until otherwise stated.

Pikerchu - Got the level recently. A couple of screens, but that's it in any case.

Is world 7 supposed be like a fire, lava world themed? If so, that would be so cool. I have many ideas for fire levels, so if you don't know any, I'd be happy to give someone ideas or anything.

It's fire and ice, actually. Only three of the levels are exclusively fiery, and I'm pretty sure that area's where the most progress has been made so far.
If that reservation list works, I hope I get one of these fire (or ice and fire) levels. I'd probably have mine done in two days with all my free time now. First day to make GFX, and the next for making the level itself. And a third for altering the GFX to fit the main gfx of the hack.

I appreciate your willingness to help out, but I don't think finishing levels super-quickly is necessarily what we want. One of the most important things is just keeping up a discussion so people know what you're doing and what you need.

I pretty much got what I need, and what I'm saying is that I can work on the level and show progress about every week (unlike I do with my hack)

Since I'm still the only one here to make continuous progress on a level but responses are back to the usual levels they are for me (read: very low)...

(screens taken completely out of order and at very different times)

Grabbed another sublevel so I can hop on the same train other people are (as in: having their levels end where the following one begins). While there are enemies in here, none of them will pose any threat. (Mario will just be too high for any of them to do any harm.) If for some god forsaken reason that the level shuffling causes this level to be before the castle, I'll just redo this sublevel to fit.

That looks pretty cool, Mr. Deepay, but is there a way to maybe put more value on the lava?

No because I used FP's palette exactly as is.

Another update in my thread, because, as I've said, I can't double post, and people won't be notified of me editing my post.

No "real" screens to show, but unless something happens (knock on wood), my level should be ready for "submission-worthy" within a couple of days. Late-Monday at the very earliest.

I haven't started actually building my level yet. Still making the necessary components of GFX and applying correct acting numbers onto the tiles. Plus, I have no idea of what BG I should use...

Just leave the BG for when you're done making the level, and just make the rest of the graphics simple, and not too complex, so you don't waste alot of time making them instead of the level. Then, after you've showed a couple screens, you can continue working on them. We don't need another "moltensnow" happening here.
Hmm... true. Alright, I'll just let the BG go for now. Tomorrow, I'll get some Map16 slots of what I have assembled so far and then get to work on the level. And trust me, I do not plan on just jumping in and then out on my first chance in a collab. First impressions are always the most important.

So I'm wondering which music did you fire/ice level makers use? I dont want it to feel like the guy who made the music made it for nothing, so which are you guys using?
Well, from what I've saw my brother use. MrDeePay seems to have used "Fire+Ice 2", and metalgearhunter used "Fire+Ice 1". Both seem to be used so yeah. As for the pure Ice and Fire levels, I've no idea.
Alright, thanks. If they were both using the same song, then I would use the other song, but now I know that I can use any of them.
Anyone who feels like using my Fire-Ice BG, can, please. Just be sure to move some things around and make it a little different, just don't copy and paste it, rearrange the tiles to give it a new feel. (It's not in the Base ROM yet)

I'll take you up on that.

I rearranged (and replaced a single tile) GFX1B4 so it could include some of the straggler tiles from MetalGearHunter's BG and fiddled around with the BG to give it a feeling that I like. I didn't use the faux-gradient he used because I want to use real HDMA for the sky. I'll have to edit his GFX to my liking if I want to do that, however.
