So, since this thread didn't fall into a bottomless pit, and I've gotten so much positive feedback, I feel I should show you a fraction of the background TheGamer made.

What do you think?

I look forward to seeing Worlds 4 + 5 done but the world to world order seems to transition quite oddly. I'd suggest that between each world you have an "intermission" level(s) between worlds where you'd be able to connect traveling from point A to point B in a nicer way. I just read your synopsis of the plot and it sounds great (I love how Yoshi ends up in the Chalk Zone).

(I might possibly snag that Archeological Dig idea from you if you don't mind)

Yeah, TheGamer did a great job on making this. But why do you show this off if I may ask? I don't really see the point of showinf off other people's work :/

Sure. Any of the worlds that didn't make the cut can be used by anyone else. I don't mind. But if someone uses the worlds I just decided, I won't mind that much either unless they use parts of the story/transitions.
So, after a failed attempt to switch to the new AddMusic, I found out I'll have to port. Believe it or not, this will be good for the hack. Not only will I use the new AddMusic on the new ROM, but it'll also make editing things easier. For example, before now, I've just been using Translhextion to make hex edits to the ROM. This means that if the ROM ever randomly crashes, I'd have to find all the hex edits I made and redo them. That's what I have to do now, but this time I'm going to save them as a patch.

I'd also like to announce that TheGamer is almost done with the GFX. This means I'll be able to add the graphics soon. Of course, I'll have to redo the levels, but this too will be good since it'll give me a chance to improve the levels. I want to make this hack at least 20% cooler. And what's important is whether or not it's enjoyable to play.

Time to port.

I'll send you the grassland tileset by tomorrow, i just need to make the map 16 and i'm done.

Oh and of course, i need to organize the tiles a bit more on the gfx files, but that will not take long.

Yes, isn't it wonderful? I've wanted to get a demo out a long time ago but due to all the problems I've had the past few months, I couldn't. However, that doesn't mean a demo will be out by June. Remember, I have to redo the levels, port everything over, and distribute it to the beta testers (I am not taking offers for beta testers until the beta is ready to be distributed). As an estimate, I'd say a demo should be out some time in July.

That is fantastic news. By any chance does that include the stuff you drew for 1-4 and other stuff you've PM'ed me about?

Edit: Just wanted to report that I have the hex edits and music ported to the new ROM. Still have quite a lot to port over.
Actually, no, i prefer to send you these when i'm done with everything from those tilesets, cutscenes, and Overworld.
But rest assured, when you've done with the level regarding the tileset i'll send you, i'll have other tilesets and stuff ready to send you. I've got really organized with your stuff now, that it will be easier to make the graphics.

So, the graphics might take a few more days. If all goes well, TheGamer will have the grassland tileset sent to me by tomorrow.

I wanted to take this time to ask you all something. Should I completely redo the levels, port them over and extend them, or just port and leave them alone? I ask because some people have complained about the levels, so I want feedback on what to do here.

FANTASTIC NEWS! THEGAMER HAS FINISHED DRAWING THE GRASSLAND TILESET!
HERE IS THE VIDEO THAT SHOWS IT! It also shows the progress I've made in porting over. The actual tileset display level doesn't happen until about 1 minute in in the video. Also, BE SURE TO TURN ANNOTATIONS ON!

Now let me explain that the level in the video will not be used for anything. It was simply a graphical showcase. I've also decided that I'll be completely redoing the levels. However, TheGamer has told me that he'll be pretty busy until June 12, so it may be a while before I can start Yoshi Village. But it's a good thing because once TheGamer is done with exams and such, he'll have plenty of free time to work on graphics.

Things I'll get started on tonight and will continue working on:
-Porting/touching up the title screen
-Redoing the intro and making the ExAnimation more efficient
-Starting 1-2
-Misc. edits and tweaks

The intro is done! WATCH THE VIDEO.
Now, I just want to explain something about the first part of the intro. The reason I used the shitty grass that I drew is because it's the only thing that fit into the file that contains the GFX that can be ExAnimated. The problem with ExAnimation is that you can only use 1 file for it, and even then, you can only use the top half of any GFX file if it's to stay at 4 KB. The grass that TheGamer drew would not fit in the file because I would have to make some serious modifications to get it to do that, and that would be a nightmare. I'm sure I could easily recreate whatever the YI intro did if I knew a lot of ASM, but since I don't know that much ASM (I can only do basic stuff) I can't do that. Besides, wouldn't I have to take advantage of the Super FX chip to do such a thing?

So anyways, what do you guys think of the intro?

So... it's finally happened. For the first time in 6 months, I have screenshots of a level that will actually be used in the hack. Here we go.


Isn't that pattern nice? Kind of reminds me of Muslim art.


Those bees are hard at work, getting imaginary nectar to their imaginary hive so it can become imaginary honey so some imaginary people can eat it.

How does Yoshi walk across super thin platforms like that? We don't know! But that's the wonders of 2D platforming.

Eh, sure. Why not? Kaizo hacking doesn't seem too ha-aaaaaaand I broke the ROM.
