Vanilla Level Design 2008: Submissions

It's more like "if it's all right with me" because I came up with the idea. SNN gets the credit cause he's a mod and can sticky and stuff. :P

But anyway, if we do anything more in the future, I'll keep you in mind as a very enthusiastic person about contests. I'll have my agent call yours. We'll do lunch.
The link to Giga's hack, "Unknown Title" is a broken link.

Cool contest so far. I've wanted SMWC to do something like this for a while. :)
I'm still waiting on Giga to supply a fixed patch. His was broken anyways.
The more broken patches/links there are, the more likely the rest of us are to win. I personally welcome this.
Except all but one patch has worked so far and I have all of them sitting on my flash drive, judged. Broken links don't matter because as long as the judges have them, everything is fine. ;)
Ah, I guess that's really too bad then. Winning contests by default is always fun. You can sort of sit around and go, "Well, hey. Why did I put that much effort into it?"

And everybody claps anyway.

You know, what would be cool would be like a SMW Hacking Grand Prix, with like 3 or 4 different contests in one huge event, and everyone could enter only 1 or 2 of the events... There'd be one for level design without anything custom (just like this one), level design with ExGfx but nothing else custom, level design with custom anything, and one other one that I can't think of (those three are just examples).

If it's alright with SNN, no matter what we do I want to play a bigger part in running the next event, rather than entering it as a competitor.

But one thing's for sure, we can't hold these TOO often or they'd get stale. Most likely, at least.

This sounds like a good idea - I was going to make a level but It's not as fun for me without ExGFX and whatnot. (And I got lazy. :P)

Hell yeah!
Maybe sometime like summer when everyone is out of school we could do this again. I just happened to get lucky since I got 9 days off of school.

Not everybody is out of school during summer. <_>

Well, I guess it's just me who has summer off then. Screw that plan -_-

No, I have summer off, I was just failing at being humorous.

You don't need ExGFX (or even custom palletes) to make something look pretty...in fact, my level, I've had more fun designing it than anything other level I've made. That's kind of the problem with SMW hacking nowadays. So many expectations, yet it's so hard to meet them. Custom music is my biggest beef. SMW's musical engine is just not suited for any of the tracks being produced, and yet everybody orgasms over custom tracks being in a hack, no matter how much of an overvaried clusterfuck it is. But that's another topic.

(And if I could take a potshot at you two, I'd say you just suck at designing levels, and instead rely on other things like graphics and music to be good. >_> This environment levels the playing field in that regard.)
No, I'm perfectly fine at just making levels with normal graphics. It's just more fun when I have to work harder to do it. :P

Edit: Not only that, but ExGFX, sprites, and blocks allow themes that the original SMW can't convey. Like having to find a way into a locked tower.
Exactly, Boing... and that's why the next contest should be a Free Style one, where custom things are allowed, IMO. See, you can't really compare Free Style level design with Non-Custom level design. Both can be equally excellent, but in radically different ways. To make my level as best as possible I had to use some techniques I normally wouldn't use while designing SMTI, for example.

I wouldn't be surprised if I don't do so well on this tourney... I've designed in Non-Custom style before, but that was ages ago and I almost forgot how. I'm rusty, you could say. >_<
It's me!!

High on life is the best high.

Exactly, all my hacks contain pretty much everything except custom blocks as Windows Vista can't run Blocktool. Free-style sounds good.

Sorry for going off-topic, but for me Blocktool worked fine with Vista. I'm not using it that much anymore, but I really didn't see any problems.

I am nearly done with my level, I am now just fixxing some places, which are a bit too luck based in my opinion.

Well, please don't blame me, when I screw up a lot, because I am fairly new here.

But I have another (dumb) question: Are you allowed to edit Level 104? I use the ending and so I wanted to spice up level 104 for a better look. Is this allowed?
