Let me make the rules very clear:

You are not to use any graphics (ExGFX or custom), sprites, blocks, asm hacks, HDMA effects, or music that were not originally in Super Mario World. Plain and simple. (However, see note below about pieguys's question.) As for exits, you can have a normal exit and a secret exit if you choose. Why it needs to get more complicated than that, I'm not sure.

pieguy1372: ExGFX files are acceptable only in that situation.

AxemJinx: You aren't allowed to post a video. It would probably spark discussion of your hack, which we aren't allowing here so as to avoid bias.

SNN's first post has the rules in more detail if you are still confused.

EDIT: HEY! SNN's rules never said anything about no altered GFX! His rules were basically "LM=OK, anything else=phail."

Altered GFX in LM are OK according to SNN's rules.
We created this contest with the intention that people would only be able to use the resources that are already in SMW. Mixing and matching tilesets from SMW is ok because they are already in the game. However, creating custom graphics isn't allowed because they weren't originall in SMW.

Also, if I could I'd edit SNN's post to include these answers but since he's not on yet I can't. I also have to still talk with him about the answers I gave and the wording in the first post.
So this isn't a "one-level LM stage," this is a "remix of what has already been done" that happens to include LM.

I'm just trying to find a loophole here, give me a break.
Since yoshi coins looked screwed up with the palette I was using, I made a custom coin out of pieces of goal tape. Is this fine? (I drew nothing, just rearranged map-16 tiles and replaced the gfx of the yoshi coin with it in the map-16 editor)

First of all, due to PMs, the deadline has been increased to two weeks. That means you guys have 13 more days to get this done. February 25th will be the date.

Videos in this thread are fine, but since I'm not allowing discussion of other hacks, the videos themselves would be pretty pointless.

As for length .. make it as long as you feel is correct, but if we are testing your level for months and it is not ending, there is a problem. (In all seriousness, try not to exceed 10 minutes, give or take a few.)

Amanada: MANIPULATION of current GFX tiles in LM is fine. What spigmike did is fine, because he took existing tiles and bent them to form something new. Having completely new GFX is not acceptable.

daboys121: Yes, custom palettes within LM are fine.

Think I covered everything. Keep submitting your levels.

Is it ok if I use a Super Mario Allstars + World rom for my hack? Been wanting to see how compatible it is with LM, and this could be the perfect reason; it also means that there's no possibility of outside programs.

EDIT: Erm. Nevermind, it won't open in LM.

This is a thing that's happening, now. Achievements in old video games.

Can I use those BG on the castle cut scenes for ExGFX?
That is from the original SMW, so yes.

I must have said "anything in the original SMW is fair game" a dozen times now. The only thing you can't do with the original SMW graphics is redraw them, but you can tile them around to make different things with them.
Can we use a level we'd made previously, or does it have to be a level that we made specifically for this contest? I have two levels in one of my hacks that I think would be perfect for this if spliced together, especially since they only use minimal GFX editing that can be removed. Should I try to edit and submit that or just come up with something completely new?
If you want to submit a level you have done previously that meets the guidelines, go for it.
Are we able to use ExGFX for ExAnimation, and are we able to edit the GFX to a certain extent?
I wonder what a HFD opcode would do in ASM...
