SMWCP2's Soundtrack: Organization! (02-22-14)

Thanks for the feedback.

I tried to improve this port a bit, increased tempo by request.
If nobody's doing Carnival Castle right now, I will claim it. I really CAN'T port, or I must read the tutorial carefully. So I'm making only the midi and someone else want to port it.

How is this?: Carnival Castle
Just say if something must be changed. And say if it's totally NOT like a Carnival Castle.

(and sorry if I'm breaking a discussion)

Alrighty!

I've composed part of an egyptian song.
Now, the problem is, I'm the kind of person who only makes half-assed songs, so I was wondering if someone else could finish it for me?

If ya wanna, the midi is here:

And now that I'm here, I wish to claim:
> Carnival Castle theme.

I recently started to work in a little riff, and I'm planning to carry on with this one.

When I get enough progress, I'll show off something.

And to make it clear for all: I'm still planning on composing the Carnival Castle theme for the hack. I managed to finish the main part of a music for my band (yeah, I compose using Addmusic), and after porting some requested musics, I'll start composing for SMWCP2.

@Bloop: Sorry, but I've already claimed it a while ago. Right now I'm having troubles to download your MIDI, I was really curious to hear how it's sounding... maybe, if you would want, I could use some things from your MIDI as a base for my composition (and make it more likely a "team composition"), or, if it sounds very wonderful, I would port it.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

I can't download that MIDI either Bloop, so I can't really judge it. Blind Devil did express interest in the Carnival Castle track though. Either way, we'll take whichever one is higher quality.

In related news, I've been contemplating whipping up a potential "final boss" theme. Even though we don't really don't know how the fight will play out yet, I take it we'll want something "epic" and fitting with Norveg. I've sort of had something in mind for the past few days, and rather than let it linger, I figured I could take a snap at something.

Yeeeeep.
Maybe a few people can compose a song for Norveg and depending on the gameplay of the final boss we could chose which one fits best.
I think a post layout goes here somewhere...
First: D'oh
Second: this link? If it's still not I'm uploading it to youtube.
Thirth: A teamwork composition would be cool, yes.

EDIT:
With hoping that Oriental Castle isn't claimed which I don't know.

Maybe it sounds kinda weird later XD

I like those both quite a bit, but the second one has two issues:

1. The strings reach much too high an octave during the...loop transition? You're going to need to change that before it can be inserted.
2. It's too short, especially for a castle. I hope you're thinking of lengthening it, because I like it quite a bit so far and don't want to see it rejected for its brevity.

I don't know if this is exactly what we're looking for in an invincibility theme, but... It's just a remix of various other Mario starman themes, so it's technically not original, but I've always felt that that theme should be the invincibility theme in all Mario games. Also, is it just me, or do the strings sound a bit off-key?

If we don't go with this I don't mind; like I said before, it's technically not original.
I should get a new layout.

Probably won't, though.
I finally could hear Bloop's Carnival Castle theme. It was very catchy and fitting, I like it. I asked him if I could expand (yeah, I thought it's a bit short) and enhance it a bit. He accepted. And I'm planning to start working on it next week.

Well, making it a team composition doesn't exclude any of the composers! And thanks again, Bloop!

As for the other showoffs here, I didn't had time to download and hear them... so I can't review.

I'd like to hear an extension on that oriental castle theme as well, Bloop. It's very good right now, but it's a tad short. If you can make it a bit longer and add some more "oriental" based instruments to it (more @14 would be nice), then I'll insert it.
While we're still into the whole "team composition" idea, I'd like someone to help me by expanding this monstrosity for me.
Check out my music!
In other news, I finished a song, but I have literally idea where it will fit.

Second that. but I think it skews more towards being an ice cave theme though. If we're going for this being a Fire/Ice Level stage theme then I think the user designing a level with this theme should use ice more predominately (about 65% ice, 35% fire).

Maybe it might also be a good idea for someone to develop a level theme where you get more fire feel for it.
I working at sunday and later on it, because my parents are on a sort of little vacantion and I am with my uncle and aunt now. And which instrument is @14? I don't know if I may download on the laptop of my Aunt.

EDIT: It is the Harpischord? I used this as 2th note of the guitar, that one sounds louder. And later as a sort of bass. Maybe I must use it in a sort of solo?

EDIT 2: Have to wait long before I can double post.
@S.N.N. It will fit an (Ice/Fire) cave good.

SNN: As I said on MSN, I think it would definately fit some sort of an ice level, possibly fire/ice, though I'm not entirely sure. I feel it should definitely be one of those two but it's your call.

Also I have a song of my own, though I don't even know if it'll fit in SMWCP2 at all. SNN suggested that it could work for a forest/swamp level but in my opinion it's a bit too "happy" to fit there. Any suggestions?

Wind.

It feels like a place where swirls of wind ruffle your clothes and you feel energized. You want to move.

An early field with some hills? A windy, verdant valley? A mountain pass? Something grand in scale.

Those are the feelings I'm getting right now, anyway~

There's nothing wrong with a happy swamp/forest song. It's actually really interesting to hear songs that don't fit the stereotypes of its theming.

For example, this song is one of my favorite videogame songs because it avoids being waltzy and boring like most water songs are expected to be, yet still is undeniably fitting.

Very much agreed. Which makes me wonder if it's necessarily a good idea to finish the entire sound track before having any idea what the levels themselves are going to be like. For while a song can certainly serve as inspiration for a level, it's also possible that a composer might compose a song with a specific level in mind, yet the designer of that level wants to take the mood of the level in a very different direction. Now, the designer could, of course, simply choose a different song from the soundtrack than the one composed with that particular in mind, but this brings with it the risk that certain tracks might end up being used a bit too frequently, whereas others don't get used at all--not because they aren't good, but simply because they ended up not happening to fit the mood of the actual levels once they were created.
