Boss Discussion: Planning Phase

well , i really didn't like the bosses in super mario world , cause they where all = , and you kill them the same form.

i made a suggestion of a olimpyan god based OW , so the bosses can be the olympians, in fire world , Ares , in water world , poseidon ( or something wich represents them, like for poseidon , a whale)

oh, and you have to kill them a different form each

If we really commit to a ice/fire world, you could go with a boss that attacks with both elements (such as a few of the bosses from Zelda games) to potentially great (and nasty in a good way) effect.

yes , in zelda games ther where koume and kotake , fire/ice power respectively , and twinrova , wich has both powers

sorry , i know , but in this book ares god of war , has no eyes , and in the holes where have to be placed the eyes , it has fire!!! XD

In regards to the fire/ice boss: a Twinrova styled boss would be amazing if it could be pulled off correctly. Even something like the two dragons (or whatever the hell they were) from Banjo-Tooie could work too. Have an arena of sorts which encompasses both fire and ice, and at each end, have one of the dragons. They could attack with their respective elements, and you would have to harness one to defeat the other.

Just an idea.

In terms of the elemental bosses, perhaps we could make it so that a star reflects the two bosses' magic, and that a while into the battle a star could drop down, and then the phase would repeat.

If the boss is going to be one entity, perhaps a ASM code could be created that allows the player to mash a button (like A) repeatedly in order to reflect an attack back at the boss, dealing damage. We already have the cannon, I don't see why we can't create something along the lines of that... Of course, I'm no ASM expert...
IF fortresses + Ghost Houses are to have bosses, I believe they should be fairly simple. That's all.

Heck, even I could prolly do that (maybe).
I think we should have some kind of recurring boss/goldfish poop squad. (like Balrog, Koopa Jr., Midbus, ect.) It would get new powers over the course of the game and appear at different points.

Since we're going route B, I think that depending on which order you got to the worlds, he gains different powers. For instance, if World 2 is a Desert world and World 3 is the Ice/Fire world, if you go to World 2 first, he gets needles, and then in World 3 he gets Fire/Ice needles. If you go to World 3 first, he gets Fire/Ice balls, and then when you go to World 2, he gets Fire/Ice tornados.
Whats with an Alien for the Space World. Or a Fish...in the Water World it can be a ish and its take Revenge in the Space, on a Water Planet
Out of boredom, I'm making a Giant Jelectro boss. Before anyone yells at me, I was gonna make this anyways, and it will get used even if not in this hack. I'm just saying that if you want, you can have it when it's done.
I think a nipper plant boss would be neat (of the yi nippers). Maybe as the first boss. It'd also be cool to have 2 bosses for the fire and ice world, but yo have to kill them both

I vote for either this, or for a crossover between Peach and this boat-girl, with the dudes in the back being Toads. I'm making gfx for it as I speak (well, type w/e). Of course this would be the bonus boss or something, and we can use both :>

Yeah. We were discussing this on IRC, and having the castle for this world encompass two bosses of each theme would be interesting (or we could go with the original Twinrova-styled idea).
I'm quite tired of having bosses just on castles/fortresses or ghost houses, maybe there should be bosses in common levels too, like Croco in SMRPG, Popple in ML:SS or Koopa Kid in PM;
About the koopalings... they're pretty repetitive, but an idea is to give 'em a machine to play with.
Uh, now some bosses ideas... How about if you there was a Shark Chomp Chase level and you couldn't escape from it and then you would be eaten by him, seconds later you find yourself in his stomach.(Just like in Prince Frogg's fight in Yoshi Island)

The dual boss idea would likely require a way to defeat each boss individually as to prevent any issues that would arise when one of them have been defeated.

For starters, the Chomp idea is too pointlessly difficult to make. It would just be weird IMO.Bosses in common levels would be ok, as long as you're not expecting the kind of bosses we see in castle. Birdo = ok. Giga Mega uber c00l Koopa = no.

And, who said there would be Koopalings?
How about an RPG-battle parody boss? (Like Underchomp from Super Paper Mario)
