The internet is in danger!

Basically they'll be able to block websites at a whim. They won't block anything big like youtube as they're not stupid, but small sites like this one are easy targets. They'll probably do several blanket bans on site that host illegal and questionable content, p2p sites, etc, and since people who use these sites generally aren't a big portion of voters, there will be little we can do about it.

Agreed. Although it won't affect me, I still hope this site won't have to be taken down as a result of this.Free counters!
To anybody who still thinks SMWC is in danger: Kieran lives in Denmark, which is nowhere fucking near the United States of America. Don't get your panties in a bunch.

The US government can't take down SMWC, but it can block US users from accessing the site (if this passes). It's a similar situation to Internet censorship in China in that the government has complete control over Internet access. Try to connect to google.com from Shanghai. You can't.

SMWC doesn't sell anything, but the Attorney General can still just block US users for silly reasons not even included in the bill's provisions.

...It sounds like no one at all even read my post. I specifically stated that stances like this run on the assumption that all lawyers and judges will be absolutely stupid, all lawyers will want to block sites just because they don't like them or just for fun, and all judges will immediately order the sites blocked just on hearing the words "copyright infringement". How do you all know this is true? How do you all know the bill WILL spell doom for the websites we love just for getting passed? How do you all know exactly how every person with power in the US will react? This is the problem I see here: You all fell victim to this video's obvious point: to make you panic for absolutely no reason. Here's a big question for you:

Why do you believe a video on YouTube when such videos have been known to cause panic and mayhem and be UNTRUE?

Just look at "TheRealWeeklyNews". Check out all the "HuluTube" fears they aroused. Did YouTube end up the way they said it WOULD, no matter what? Heck no. It was causing people to panic for no reason, because they believed those videos. Don't believe everything you see on youtube. :|
