Kaizo 1 and 2

Kaizo

of course, it's good to play the originals first. i vote for a sticky.
Totally the most logical thread here.

Vote for sticky.

Probably not stick, but still pretty important.

Anyway, problems: First two links do not work, and the second two are RAR files, which some computers are unable to open (including mine).

Somewhere in the huge original sticky is one of my final lists that I had made, which have proper links, or you can go straight to my File Bin. I must go through the thread and update it once more, and then I guess we can discuss again the possibility of remaking the thread.

why would we need to remake the thread now that we have this forum ? to keep track of all the finished hacks ?
Yes, a list of all finished and submitted hacks is exactly what we need (we don't have a Kaizo hack section, so we need something to keep track of the hacks).

i vote Ulti makes a fresh thread. a more enthused and organized user would be hard to find, and having to fish through the old thread for the list would be time-consuming like bananas.

i second this, he could keep it up-to-date and update the first post with new hacks better then most.
Yeah, a Kaizo hack list thread would be a great idea until/if they make a Kaizo Hack section on the sidebar.
Good fucking bye.

I agree. Just a sticky thread with the list of released kaizo hacks/demos in it would be useful. It should be made by someone who actually has the time and is willing to use that time to update the list though.
(And also, maybe a special mod or even two for this subforum since it is, in some way, different from the hack discussion forum and the other subforums?)

well i've noticed that ultimaximus has been promoted, so maybe it's for that very reason ?

Yep, Ulti is now a mod of this forum.

I second... Wait, someone beat me to it. I third this.

And yes, I just LOVE to smash the Halloween name changes to pieces by using the originals.
Want to see some of my cool swords? Well, too bad, right now you only get to see one of them, and it's my avatar. Might set up some kind of gallery/portfolio at some point, though.
so Ulti, it's been decided. it's all up to you. make us proud.

note that absolutely zero people care how effectively you waste your time. it's not like we're incredibly confused about who is who anyway.

I didn't really think anyone cared. I don't care either.

And from now on, I'm being careful how I use the word "noone".

Since we're talking about threads and stuff right now, I would suggest that we have a little "moderation" thing going on in here for now until the section on the side is made. So here is my plan: There is a closed thread, only moderators of this forum can post in, the moderators moderate the hacks, and it works like the old hack removal system. Except we would also need a thread for submissions, and such. Sound like a good idea?

Though it would just be really easy if it was a section on the side.

Because if we had Kaizo moderators for what I explained up there, this subsubforum would have like 4 or 5 moderators. We would also need a submission guideline thing.

Eh.
guess we should start deciding the guidelines then ?
I have already posted something in the announcements thread, that I hope to think of more. So:

Kaizo

1. The Kaizo Hack should be possible.
  • This means no pit hacks.
  • Nothing that involves hard to do frame perfect glitches.
    • This involves walljumps, and alternating B and A every other frame, such as under a smasher.
    • This does not involve P-Switch jumps.

2. The Kaizo Hack should not be too easy.
  • In case you are wondering, precision jumping every five seconds is not hard at all.
  • Something to the equal difficulty of ASMT or the VIP series is not very much Kaizo. Stay away from making it that tier of difficulty. Make it harder.

3. Not all things are hard to perform.
  • This refers to shell jumps and Yoshi jumps.
    • You should not abuse these, as it is just plain annoying to do it every 2 minutes.
    • They should be used in a more difficult way. Like between death blocks or something.
  • Don't make the glitches impossible to do.
    • This also corresponds to rule 1B, about frame perfect glitches.

4. Just because its a Kaizo hack, doesn't mean you should make it unappealing.
  • Things such as floating munchers and cutoff are still bad.
    • The hack will not get accepted if there is continual "ugliness".
      • Though, if used in a "clever" way, floating munchers will be accepted.

5. Just because its a Kaizo hack, that doesn't mean bad grammar is acceptable.
  • Get a person that is good with grammar to beta test your hack and proofread your text.

6. Death traps.
  • This is Kaizo, how can you not make death traps? But seriously, they are cheap and stupid. I would try to avoid doing this, but hey, its not that bad. Just try to avoid it.

7. Check for breaks.
  • Of course people who will TAS the Kaizo Hack you make will look for possible breaks. I would suggest that you find people to help you find all possible breaks.

8. General Playability.
  • Remember the original Kaizo? It was actually playable without the usage of Save States. So your hack should fit in the difficulty range of the original Kaizo. This corresponds to rule 1.
  • Is it fun?
    • Sure, Kaizo Hacks are hard. But thats what makes them fun. If it is a blatant edit, or its just generally to linear, it will not be accepted.
  • Glitches that are a real pain to perform will also be denied.
    • Such as entering a door midair with a P-Switch, or a key.
    • Doing the above takes a lot of time, and is very hard.
