Chocolate Level Design 2010 - Discussion

Good luck to every participants!
And also...when is the approximately estimated date of the results? A month? Just out of curiosity.
GibdoMask9: Yes, that is something I typically allow. If a patch is broken and you have a fixed one, you can upload it to your files and link it here.

Gwanto: Probably a month as always. There are a lot less levels to play than Vanilla 2010 though, so we'll try and be a bit quicker this time.
Awesome. Here is my fixed patch of MS PAIN.

EDIT: Should be fine now.
I found out that mine and TG's entry have a bug that screws one of the secondary exits up. Go me, I guess.

Also, have fun jugding, and be fast <3

Wow, only 40 entries? That shouldn't take too long to judge. But I have a bad feeling about my outcome score (and yes I can't stress it enough) and am seriously considering removal from the contest. Then again, it will give me a place that I can improve on, and I won't have to make people stop what they're doing and go out of their way to finish a hack or level of mine. So, yeah, it makes me want to stay.

On the other hand, there are so many people that I expected to join or finish that didn't or dropped out. MarioAwesomeness, Atma and PercentN, Noobish Noobsicle, moltensnow...

Wow. Well, I suppose this will beat last one's. Hopefully.
EDIT: Jesus Christ I haven't leveled up in like forever.
After playing some of the levels (lunardrake's, logup's, hadron's, reg's) I kind of feel regretful about the poor quality and lack of real quality in mine.
Oh well, here's hoping for the top 10's :)

also it sucks that some of the people didn't get there's done in time. :(
ask me if i give a f*ck...

Yeah, too bad that people like Ladida, Atma & PercentN, yoshicookiezeus couldn't finish their levels, I was so curious to see their works. Well, less rivals...less fun. Or not? Yeah, we have bigger chance to win now, but is the triumph as big as if these people submitted their levels? I didn't say that the other participants' levels are bad - just a bit less. :)

Then again, you don't know if you've got rivals until you've played all the entries.

The past vanilla contests had the winners pretty much bend what's allowed vanilla to its extremes. Darklink898/Kaeru was one of the first ones to actually feature very good level design, and won the first vanilla contest with "Mountain Heights".

I don't remember what was first, the chocolate contest or the vanilla contest in 2009, but SyStemkraSh made some incredibly complex vanilla gfx structures and stuff, by using tile overlapping. He only got 16th place with "Brothers to the end", but it's a memorable entry.

YCZ had an epic level, with good design and very nice exanimation and vanilla gfx bending. Not many levels feature four switches in a level and execute the idea itself almost perfectly. "Deja vú tower" itself is a great level.

And then, the winner of the Vanilla contest entry 2010 is "Forever Factory" by Lynnes, which might as well be the greatest level to strike SMW hacking, ever. It featured amazing graphics bending and incredible palettes, and truly deserved its first place result.

Something cool might happen this year too. :P

wow, really had to get that out.

There are only four team entries? That's very sad.
Boom V4

I hope SNN doesn't mind too much I keep updating this to get rid off the bugs that were left in there.

Note: Mario can't jump on enemies, X button is the most useful thing yet, and There is a very well hidden bonus room (I only added ExAnimation) inside the level. Don't search the rom our you'll ruin the surprise.
I wonder what a HFD opcode would do in ASM...
Awww, did I miss it?

Ok, I didn't plan on entering anyway. Maybe next year! #w{:>}

Or not.
woag.....

(previously superdragonyoshi1. sup yall.)
The forgotten place 1.1

Well, this is a small bugfix courtesy of me. Fixed a secondary exit bug and some glitched GFX in a bonus area.

Still has some custom block bugs which i have no idea on how to fix, unless i do some changes to the level, which would result in me inserting some other custom blocks and stuff which i don't think is allowed... better off leaving it alone.

Not like you really need somebody to help you make a good hack.
Good fucking bye.

Extras

I should have something witty to put here (even if it's just to update dated info), shouldn't I?

I'm disappointed in that with all the planning and work I was doing for this contest (actually starting work on the level itself early didn't seem right to me), I missed the deadline all because of damn overdue phone bill that forced me to sit this one out. Granted, I would've been pummeled to hell and back by many other people, but still.

Looks like I'll have something for C3, then.

To be honest, this contest feels a bit... dead. It lacks the enthusiasm (I spelled it right the first time, yay) the first choco contest had. Maybe people kept things a bit to secretive this time around instead of waging war against one another. School also took a bite out of the competition I bet, however it seems like some managed to make epicness.

Yes, I'm talking about Logup's and ---- Entry, despite it suffering from massive slowdown, I love it.

I was noticing that myself. It's kinda weird really...
I think it comes down to the fact that so much is going on around the site right now (forums are still being recovered, C3 is right around the corner, SMWCP is on the brink of release, etc.) that it's a little slow. That, and I usually promote it quite a bit more than I did this time.

Still, there were more entries than last year, and apparently there are some downright awesome ones (haven't played them all yet), so that's a bonus. I'll definitely pick a more convenient date next year though.

Yes, I know. But I still expected more people to take advantage of the new rule.

Yes, my thoughts exactly. I was looking forward to some entries.
Any idea when we can expect the results? I only hope it doesn't take as long as the Kaizo contest.
