Yeah, too bad that people like Ladida, Atma & PercentN, yoshicookiezeus couldn't finish their levels, I was so curious to see their works. Well, less rivals...less fun. Or not? Yeah, we have bigger chance to win now, but is the triumph as big as if these people submitted their levels? I didn't say that the other participants' levels are bad - just a bit less. :
)
Then again, you don't know if you've got rivals until you've played all the entries.
The past vanilla contests had the winners pretty much bend what's allowed vanilla to its extremes. Darklink898/Kaeru was one of the first ones to actually feature very good level design, and won the first vanilla contest with "Mountain Heights".
I don't remember what was first, the chocolate contest or the vanilla contest in 2009, but SyStemkraSh made some incredibly complex vanilla gfx structures and stuff, by using tile overlapping. He only got 16th place with "Brothers to the end", but it's a memorable entry.
YCZ had an epic level, with good design and very nice exanimation and vanilla gfx bending. Not many levels feature four switches in a level and execute the idea itself almost perfectly. "Deja vú tower" itself is a great level.
And then, the winner of the Vanilla contest entry 2010 is "Forever Factory" by Lynnes, which might as well be the greatest level to strike SMW hacking, ever. It featured amazing graphics bending and incredible palettes, and truly deserved its first place result.
Something cool might happen this year too.
wow, really had to get that out.
