NES turns 25

Although the Famicon already had 2 years under its belt, the NES saw its official release in the US on this day 25 years ago. I can't believe it's been that long already. The NES still holds the top step of the podium for me as far as gaming consoles go, and despite their age, some of those old games are still just as exciting to play

To the system that completely revitalized a dying industry and introduced us to some of the greatest heroes and gaming franchises out there - cheers!!

Never even played it.
Not even kidding.

Yeah, so what if I haven't shoveled out my signature yet, I'll get to it later.

In all seriousness though, huzzah.
You mean like the 25th anniversary of Super Mario Bros.? #w{=|}

Yes, I still like Super Mario All-Stars (SNES) more than the original NES games. Also, SNES has Mario Paint and Super Mario Kart, but NES has not.

But NES had the first game with Bowser.

Super Mario Bros. appeared in 1985, so the NES must have existed.

No, the NES went on sale Oct 18th 1985 in a limited market area in the US - read NYC. All other US markets saw it go on sale in early 1986, yes, but it is the NYC date that marks its US debut.

And for others who have mentioned it, Super Mario Bros debuted sometime in September of 1985, so its 25th anniversary was actually a month before the NES's.

Anyways, I too am a fan of the SNES, but this shouldn't be an argument over which system reigns supreme and why, but a salute to the system that pretty much single-handedly put the consumer video gaming industry back on its feet. Who knows what home gaming would be like if it wasn't for the NES - a world where Sega would have taken the reins? Doubtful, since it seems Sega didn't even bother pushing the SG1000 to the next level until it took notice of Nintendo's early success with the Famicon. And with Atari's rampant problems, well....
I have never ever seen a NES in real life. I know I had a SNES which I'm still pretty attached to. It's doesn't work right now, maybe I'm going to buy a new one, as they are cheap.

How could you?!

I still own an NES, and it still works, fuck yes. I absolutely love the NES, some titles are still fun to play after all those years. Gotta love Nintendo.

NOW YOU'RE PLAYING WITH POWERRRRRRRRR!
Yeah, I've never played on one either; my dad hated video games with a fiery burning passion. The first console I ever played on was the N64, and that was at a friend's house. It was some weird 7-Up based platformer.

But if my dad ever found out that I had been playing a video game, he'd usually go on a rant along the lines of "How dare you not have your nose stuck in a Tom Clancy book or watching a History Channel documentary on the use of steel in the Soviet Union?! RAEG GO TO YOUR ROOM AND THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU'VE DONE YOUNG MAN." He'd do the same thing with TV as well.

But yeah, happy birthday, NES! (And in 2014 we can celebrate the 20th birthday of NESS!)
I should get a new layout.

Probably won't, though.

How could you?!

I was living on the countryside of Norway. I don't even know if they were sold in Norway either... So that's how I could.

I played SNES as a four year old... SMAS SMB3 is filled with good memories...

We used to have an NES with SMB 1-3, Dr. Mario, LoZ, and Barbie (oh god Barbie...|-O ) until we sold it all at a garage sale when I was still young. Big mistake, parents.

Then we got a used NES at Goodwill of all places with Rad Racer and Dragon Warrior 4 (known today as Dragon Quest 4) but it came with the SNES plug... which was actually rather lucky since my pet rabbit had chewed through the old one.

To this day I still seek an NES set (or at least its AC adapter) and the classic games (SMBs, LoZs, Metroid, Kirby, Kid Icarus, etc.)

Either way, happy belated birthday NES!

Heh, I started playing NES when I was 3 years old. Good times, I swear.

Happy Birthday NES!
Ahh I used to play the NES all the time over at my grandparent's house. Man those were good memories.
Happy 25, NES!
