Does anyone know of a good Paint program?

I need a Paint-like program, which is used specifically to edit sprites. I'm trying to make sprites (For another program, something called SMBX[NOT ADVERTISING]), but Paint has strange colors, and Paint.NET flood-fills on other colors and takes forever to load. Any suggestions?

YY-CHR? Or, an actual image making program? For THAT, I'd recommend GIMP. It's free. Don't ask me where to get it, go Google it.
Paint.net is quite good.

This speaks for itself.

I use GIMP, it's free and it works great for whatever you do. The website has a whole bunch of tutorials and the like for GIMP (like making a userbar, sig, etc.)
come check out my stream, i play cool stuff sometimes -- twitch.tv/xcombomamba

tl;dr you're a cool person :)
Flood-fill means what..?

I have been using Paint.NET for a long time already and it works perfectly fine for pixel art. You just have to know how to do it.
hell, i just use MSPaint, then i quickly run it through photoshop to process the transparency layer properly. nothing complicated.

or YY-CHR if i'm editing video game graphics directly, but that's not that often...
we are all 😎 but some are more 😎 than others
Flood-fill means the paint bucket tool.

To make Paint.NET fill in less similar colours, adjust the tool tolerance. The higher means it's more sensitive to fill in similar looking colours.
layouts suck
I'll use GIMP. It's kinda hard to use but... I'll get used to it. :)

Funny...for me Paint.NET loads within maybe 20 seconds maximum, whereas GIMP never fails to take more than 5 minutes.

So yeah, I use Paint.NET for most things that I can't accomplish in MS Paint. GIMP is good, and has more features, but has a steep learning curve and god-awful loading times.
I should get a new layout.

Probably won't, though.
Timing it, I get 16 seconds. I don't know, maybe it's related to how it takes forever to load on school computers. Different versions? *shrugs*

Pokey Minch: We're talking about PAINT.NET, not MS Paint. Paint and Paint.NET are different.

He was referring to your first post when you said Paint had strange colors.

I still use the old Paint because windows 7 Paint just sucks. I use it for all my spriting needs (and Photoshop to make transparency).

It's not my fault you didn't specify which paint in the quote.

Paint.NET flood-fills on other colors

Just set the tolerance to 0% to not make it affect any other colors.

This.

[long-winded tolerance explanation]
Tolerance is basically how close a color has to be to the color you click to be treated as one big color (for stuff like the paint bucket and magic wand select). Eg. A tolerance of 0 selects only that exact color, while an average tolerance (about 32 [13%]) selects the exact color as well as all of the colors several shades lighter and darker.

This was made for things like photos and art that change colors ever so slightly between pixels. When spriting, it works against you so it should always be set to 0, except for extraordinary circumstances.
