In the 'all-nighters' thread, I read about people who stay up all night, or who at least try to. This past night, I was able to get a whole two hours' sleep, so I've started a thread for those of us who have more trouble sleeping than staying awake.

How often do you experience Insomnia? What do you do while you should be sleeping? If you need to sleep but can't, what do you do to relax? And how tired do you feel after a sleepless night, as opposed to the people who perform all-nighters?
Insomnia comes to me very rarely, and I read magazines or books when I can't sleep. The day after, I don't know why I don't get tired, I stay normal even when I have Insomnia.
Now I need to change my old avatar. Or not.
I found what I believe to be the ultimate cure for insomnia. Plug your iPod in and get a song up with loadsa lyrics and lip (not sing) the lyrics along with the song. Do this for 20 minutes or so and before you know it you're out like a light.

My only ever (unintentional) all-nighter was a result of insomnia. Sitting in the living room waiting for sunrise was decidedly boring.

Overall, I'd say I've never really suffered it beyond the occasional now and then.
The only time I have problems with sleeping is when I'm messing up my sleeping schedule, i.e. usually I go to bed at 2AM but then on one day I head to bed at 11PM.

To get used to a new schedule takes some time for me and results in a few nights with almost no sleep.
Insomnia isn't that rare to me, Well, If I can's sleep I play DS or....stuph

I only get imnsonia when I'm too exited about what's going to happen the next day. Otherwise, I don't have any problems to sleep.
Yesterday. I don't have it, but I stayed up until 1 o'clock and was in bed until 3'30 before I said screw it and stayed up untill 5.

Happens most of the time for me.
Hell, I got it right now. I've been up till... 4:15pm. (EST time)
Nothing to put here at the time being.
Thanks to Tom Servo for the awesome new layout!
I occasionally get insomnia, normally that leads me not getting to sleep till about 3-5am. I find that reading a book helps me to sleep, or listening to some music (with headphones of course).

Funnily enough i'm not usually tired the day after having insomnia, it's normally the next day after that.
It only usually happens when I'm stressed. When ever this happens I just pop onto my computer. Yeah, that never helps. >.<

"stuph" hmmm... you mea- oh NOW I gotcha. Me too ;)
My dad has insomnia, I hope I don't have it.

I slept terrible last year, always woke up drowsy. This school year I've felt much better, still tired, but better.

Here's a tip: you probably all, knowing you people, stare at glowy screens within an hour before bed. Don't. It screws you up your head and makes it hard to go to bed.

A fucking owl kept me up a few nights ago, but other than that, I've slept pretty fine so far this school year :D

How dare you mention us not staring at glowy screens for short periods of time!

In all seriousness, that probably would explain my problems sleeping on the weekends. Ugh.
Good fucking bye.
Only every waking night. Huzzah for slightly effective melatonin supplements.

I see you looking at my sig. You're just jealous.

This. Before going to bed, I usually shut off my laptop atleast half an hour before and read. It helps me a lot.

Unfortunately, sometimes I forget the time, then it's too late and I end up going to bed getting like two to four hours of sleep. I can't wait when my brother finally has school again and I'll be forced to go to bed at 1AM at the latest and wake up at six in the morning to bring him to school. Solid sleeping schedules are so much better than randomly going to bed and randomly waking up.
I personally, can't get a really good sleep. I worry about things way too much. #w{:s}
If you're going to stare at a computer screen, turn its brightness down and don't make it the only light the room. Doing this got me an extra hour off of my insomnia.

Ahhhhh, the pain of school life, staying up all night to be woken by an alarm. Without knowing it, if I'm on the computer, then I'll stay up past the silent hours. Because of this, if it's a school day, I feel like death when I get up, but I also feel like death going to bed earlier, because I get used to being asleep, that I don't want to get up.

If the lights are off, I tend to start getting tired after a short while, and just go to sleep, but whilst I'm awake, I read a book since the pages catch the stray light. I'm ok with going to sleep at anytime on a weekend though, cos I can stay in bed in the mornings. The bliss of weekends.

Me too. I also get insomnia when I play Pokemon Platinum and Mario & Luigi: Bowser's inside story or other games at night. I dunno why but's these games are fun!

I usually get rid of insomnia by listening Kumon English EFL CD or praying.

I'm too excited and nervous about next day's scout camp at my school. It might be fun but I missed my favourite TV programme. F*ck!
